84 guests' feedbackWe had a very nice stay. It is a very peaceful place away from others. The place was immaculately clean and made you feel comfortable. Lots of space inside and a nice view of nature.
Arrived eventually after many of the roads were under water, to no electricity, no comms and freezing cold. It would have been nice to have had some wood for the fire at the cottage. Enjoyed the Old Brown Sherry to warm us up. Cecilia's is quaint and quirky - but was great for our overnight stay. The shower did not drain very well. The flowers in the garden were beautiful.
Was delicious! Beautiful flowers on site. House reminded me of my grandmother's place!
We like space and the house was more than adequate. The hostess is very friendly and helpful and we will definitely stay there again.
We had a family trip with my fiance and his parents, and this was a lovely overnight spot on our way further up north. The old house/farm feeling was so lovely and welcoming, we really enjoyed our stay.
We had a very pleasant 2 nights and saw marvellous flower displays in the area and indeed in the cottage garden. The cold air seeping in through the kitchen was offset by the heated blankets on the beds.
It is a beautiful old house with nice place to hang out inside or outside. The price is very good for accommodation for 8 people.
We were very skeptical when we walked in, especially when we were given the directions to the shower. But - we had a lovely shower. Everyone had plenty of hot water. Our hostess brought us electric blankets because it had been very cold weather, but they were hardly even needed. Everyone agreed that they had a great night's sleep. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and best of all was our little gift waiting on the table. Unfortunately we had to check out earlier and we forgot 2 salami rolls in the fridge. Wouldn't have been a huge damage, but they had toured together from Rome and we were looking forward to eating them. Made sure the courier got them the next day. Yes, laugh. It was really very considerate of her.
The owner really put a lot of effort into making a slightly older place feel very much at home with lots of cute, small and appropriate additions. I am now referring to all the things one would find in a hotel room and then more.
Nice stay, but the bathroom needs to be checked.
The house is cute and interesting and we had a great stay. However, it needs some maintenance and some finishing touches, which I passed on to the owner.
Yes and no. Because we had no TV facilities. Shower was not nice at all.
Loved the location, which is just on the outskirts of the town so more private and less busy than we expected, with its own field of flowers which was beautiful to be near while we cooked over sunset and also lovely for our dog to run around. They do have another dog there, a very sweet Great Dane who was very gentle with our female dog. The house is a very typical old-style farmhouse with old antique furniture and old photographs which was very nostalgic. Comfortable bed!
Farm style accommodation.
All they can do is do something about the hot water. There was a lack of warm water but otherwise, I'll book Cecilia's Cottage again.
Nice big cozy house.
It is situated on the outskirts of the village with access to all amenities. Our hosts were friendly and welcoming. The one or two small problems were sorted out immediately.
The cottage is an old wooden and brick house which was quite well equipped. All the beds were comfortable with fresh, clean linens. The living room has a lovely big fireplace which was definitely a saving grace against the biting cold! We also like other reviews had an interesting time with the shower. A few of us have taken lovely hot showers and then the next person is surprised with a cold shower. The gas geyser had a will of its own. Outside is a lovely covered lounging area with a "firepit". Unfortunately it was too cold to take advantage of the opportunity, but would be lovely on summer evenings.
However, I would like to mention one small problem when someone is in the shower and another person turns on a tap in the scullery: The water stops running completely and you stand freezing until the water is turned off again in the scullery.
It's a neat cottage that can accommodate about 8 people. Everything we needed was there. Provision has been made to alleviate load shedding. There is also a gas stove to boil water, a fireplace with wood so we could sit and watch the flames. Very cozy. The bed, bedding and bathroom equipment were great. The only criticism is that the floor is not at the same level everywhere, which is troublesome for us as elderly people. Outside is a lovely braai and relaxation area.
The cottage is old, but nicely fixed. Everything one could need is there. It was very cold, but there are plenty of warm blankets. A nice hot shower is also available. Thank you very much!
It's an old wooden house with many antiques. Unfortunately there is only 1 bathroom which makes it difficult with a house full of people. We also had a lot of trouble getting water through to take a shower. It was also terribly cold at that time and there is no heating in the cottage, apart from the nice fireplace in the evenings. There are also no electric blankets. The kitchenette is well equipped, but unfortunately the sink area is so small that only 1 person can stand there. I think with some necessary changes and renovation it could be a very nice stay.
The host was very hospitable and helpful.
Good communication beforehand.
Rustic and picturesque surroundings. Friendly guest in a cozy old-world place. Thank you very much.
It is not in the town but on the edge and quite safe. Easy to find. Everything we needed. It is a quaint cottage with all amenities necessary. The old historical photographs and furniture give the place a nice atmosphere and the fireplace where we could even braai was fantastic. Louisa came to enquire if we were satisfied and is a great host.
An old fashioned, character cottage, comfortable and warm in rural setting. Hosts are very hospitable as well as a gorgeous dog who comes to visit. Beautifully quiet surroundings, a great way to get away from the city. Lovely outside braai and seating area.
Fireplace, beautiful, old furniture, cozy atmosphere. Louise went out of her way.
Old family home on the farm. Quiet and relaxing. Ideal place if you want to experience what it was like living in the 50s and 60's. Everything needed is supplied. If you want modern convenience, it's not for you. There is however a TV, a fridge, a toaster, a snackwich machine, a kettle and a microwave. No burglar bars or safety gates but there is no crime. Locals leave their cars and houses unlocked. Locals are super friendly and helpful. Would book again. Hoping to buy a plot here to retire, I am sold on the town.
We froze in late August. Wind was blowing through the walls. No heat, no Wi-Fi. Electricity sometimes. All that and I still love that Grandmother Cecelia's house is welcoming travellers in her honour. I love the family history and the antique furnishings but could have used some modern conveniences to make our stay more pleasant.
Our only problem was the lack of hot water which seemed to be linked to the poor water pressure. The cottage is beautifully decorated and beds are comfortable with extra blankets in the cupboard. The kitchen wash up area is a bit inconvenient with nowhere to put things. Overall a pleasant cottage.
Realize this is an older house. Could do with a bit of refurbishment but was very neat and clean.
In the photos, one cannot see that the house is built of wood. Not a problem but was quite hot when we arrived. We immediately turned on fans and opened windows which brought relief. Cottage is comfortable and clean. Decor from the past gives you the delicious nostalgia of days gone by. Has everything needed. Beds are comfortable. Lovely area where you can sit outside and pond in which children can swim.
The cottage is in a perfect location to explore the town and area. Louise was helpful with local information. We loved taking her friendly dog for a walk to see the ruins. The Hantam Flower Reserve was breathtaking.
Cecilia's Cottage is a lovely place to spend a few nights. It is clean and has everything your heart desires. I will definitely choose them again when I go that way.
We had a great time staying in the cottage. The silence was wonderful and the children really enjoyed swimming in the pond, as well as the visits from the owners' dog. The hostess is friendly and helpful.
Very nice stay for 3 nights, will book again for sure. Everything was just very nice, location, accommodation, owner friendly.
Hostess very welcoming with personal attention. Quiet and peaceful, good location for other attractions. Very safe. Beautiful garden with flowers and interesting rock formations. Old house, but is fully equipped. Cold in winter, but the fireplace makes the living room nice and warm. I would love to read more about the history of the house.
The cottage is in a perfect location. We were surrounded by beautiful flowers. Great hospitality and value for money.
Cozy wooden house, old but lovely fireplace and sun porch, very well equipped, hot water works with gas so we all always had hot water. Our puppies are delightfully curled up in flowers. Will definitely go in summer to take advantage of the nice swimming pool.
Neat and very well equipped with user-friendly accessories.
Had a nice cozy sleep even though it was very cold.
Shower adjustment for hot and cold water a problem. Dish washing area cramped and outdated.
The house was mostly comfortable, however the kitchen is very under equipped and the scullery is minute.
See stars.
I just think that the house should have different rates for less guests. Compared to the rest of the town and the vintage cottage it is quite expensive. I think the description should say that it is an older building as well as the interior. But the fireplace logs were welcome (cold December night). The bedding is nice, towels preferably white or light.
Have a good time in front of the stove. Thanks for extra blankets and hot water bags.
The whole house was covered in cobwebs and you really felt like bugs were climbing on you all the time. The house needs paint. If the owner pays some attention to all these aspects it will be a good place to spend the night.
Bitter oud, min warm water.
The hostess received us kindly. The yard is spacious for children to play and ride bikes. There were enough blankets and a cozy fireplace to ward off the worst cold of a winter weekend.
Very pleasant stay. We were lucky the flowers the best they have been for many years and the whole cottage is just surrounded in them. Beautiful!
Loved staying there.
The cottage is well situated in the village for day trips to the flower sites. The manager really made us feel welcome. There are 3 bedrooms therefore we had ample space to spread out. There is a fireplace and wood should the weather be chilly.
The house is located on a small holding, on the ridge of the village, Nieuwoudtville. It's very quiet and peaceful, with a delicious outdoor barbecue and place to hang out. Inside is a fireplace in the living area, 3 rooms with sleeping capacity for 8, but only 1 bathroom. In flower time, the cottage is surrounded by beautiful wildflowers.
Nicely located to start flower viewing experience, close to all the flower viewing highlights.
Nice location to see flowers.
Cosy place between lots of flowers.
Detached house on large plot with outside braai area, table on the porch. The house itself is full of character and it feels like you have come to visit grandma. We were six people and never felt like we were stepping on each other's toes. Only issue, there was no hot water. Geyser is on at the power board, but nothing at the faucet.
The tranquility of the surroundings was wonderful and we had a great barbecue in the indoor barbecue which was nice because it was very cold at night. The back door is broken and the wind comes through and the back wall of the kitchen's laundry room is made of slanted boards and openings in between so it is very cold. Furthermore, everything is neat and clean.
Quaint little town and close to the sight-seeing spots.
There is plenty of sleeping space and although the building is not new, there is everything you need.
Enjoyed the tranquil environment and we enjoyed sitting around the fire late at night.
See stars.
An old farm cottage with everything we needed for a comfortable stopover. Friendly welcome from owner and her dog. Newly filled reservoir looked inviting, but it was getting a bit chilly by the time we arrived. Enjoyed all the historical photos of family and area. Had a lovely evening.
Very nice little place, friendly people. If you need a getaway and need to hear yourself think, this is the place.
The accommodation is very cozy and we had a great time. However, I have to say that, compared to other places we have stayed, the cost of accommodation here is a bit high. Nos. It appeared as if the shower drain was clogged because it drained very slowly.
If you want an old barnyard with 1940's furniture and dusty carpets with spiders everywhere this is just the place for you. Hostess very friendly at reception, but no service afterwards. The TV doesn't work at all and I kept asking the hostess to fix it which never happened. I never felt safe in the cottage because it is isolated and there is no alarm or security doors.
Quiet farm atmosphere. Very safe and quiet. Swimming pool is definitely a bonus.
Although old, the house has all the essentials for a nice getaway with family or friend. The best flowers was around the house. Thank you, Louise, for the extra firewood for the cold nights.
We were 6 friends and we could visit without disturbance from uninvited guests. The place is quite secluded and no one around us could complain that we were disturbing them. The cottage was equipped with all the necessities for a nice visit.
Lovely stay. Especially enjoyed the indoor braai. Very good value for money. Excellent service.
House was nice but couldn't handle the spiders in the house and the so called pool needs steps inside to get out or you must always have someone to lift you up from the inside, but over all very nice.
Cecilia's Cottage is among the wealth of Namaqua flowers and lilies. No matter which direction you look, you are greeted with flowers. The accommodation is old world. This is Grandma Cecilia's house and everything is as it was in her time ─ the furniture, crockery and cutlery, but it is clean and comfortable. The fireplace was a particular asset with the sudden cold weather. We had a great stay, but if you like a more modern setup, this is not for you.
It was comfortable and adequate to what we needed.
Although it was very cold, we were soon warm with a roaring fire in the lounge. Comfortable beds. The cottage is situated on the edge of town and was surrounded with flowers when the sun came out. Good value for money. One bathroom may be a problem for a large group.
Once we made contact with the owner (through a gentleman who knew her at the local Pub) we gained access. Louisa is a friendly and accommodating person and ensures your stay is also.
No one receives us, calls to say that we need to turn on the geyser, it causes almost a total short circuit and does not work. The boiler does not work, the stove hardly works and is a definite fire hazard. The TV doesn't work. The house is unkempt and the yard is not groomed at all.
Quiet environment and value for money.
Value for money. A lot of space & very comfy beds. We enjoyed the braai facilities. For a big group the 1 bathroom might be a time constraint but all in all, we really loved the cottage. Thank you.
