Location is ideal with the sound of the waves lulling you to sleep. When we arrived, none of the owners were there and we had to get the key from a helper, after I first had to call the owner. They can definitely work on making their guests feel welcome. However, quickly replaced a boiler that wouldn't work.
The place was clean and tidy. The reception was good.
Service was poor. Arrival time was anytime from 12:00. We arrived at 2pm but owner/caretaker was absent. Reception office was closed. The phone number provided rang unanswered. We had to wait 20 minutes for the owner to give us our keys to get into the room after the website had alternative contact details for the owner. It is unacceptable if you have already been driving all day to wait so long when the reservation was confirmed. We also drove the next morning at 06:00 on our way to our next destination. When we wanted to shower at 05:00, we found out there was no hot water in the unit, and we had to face a cold water shower. Owner and/or his son show no urgency or interest in receiving guests, or making sure units are ready for guests. Shower also had "droppings" in it, so it wasn't cleaned properly, or we shared the unit with unwanted guests in the bathroom, which we don't know what it was (probably better that way. ) We do have a large found black snail in our room and suspected it came from the bathroom. No WiFi password given, unit had no documentation available to notify guests of password. We used our own data. They advertise free WiFi but don't share passwords. Look at photo of bathroom with toilet and shower layout. The shower door cannot open from the outside of the shower because the toilet is too close to the shower door, so the shower door opens to the inside of the shower, so a large person cannot get into the shower and close the shower door. Very uncomfortable and bathroom layout very impractical.

The rooms were booked for my brother and his wife and they were very satisfied with everything! Beautiful rooms and close to the sea. They enjoyed the walk to the beach!
It was a lovely, refreshing one night stay after a tiring drive home. Rested very well and left early the next morning.
We enjoyed our stay, right on the beach. The kids loved exploring the rocks. The unit was cleaned every day, such a luxury for us not having to wash dishes. Kitchen facilities were basic, but sufficient.

Guesthouse was nice clean and tidy, owner very friendly and helpful. The unit we stayed in was an open plan bedroom and living room with a small fitted kitchen in one corner with separate bathroom with bath. There was also a separate bedroom with en suite bathroom with shower. Vehicle could park under the roof, but the yard is open with no fence.

Tony welcomed us very kindly and immediately made us feel at home. The place is cleaned every day and is tidy. And the basic necessities are there that you need for the holidays. What makes it so much better is that the beach is a stone's throw from the apartment. We will definitely go there again.

Tony and Stella are the ideal hosts to make anyone feel welcome. From the little flower on the bed to the chocolate on the pillow, it was pure pleasure to be able to visit there. No request was too much and their breakfasts exceeded all prescriptions. They are excellent ambassadors for the hospitality industry and do the Eastern Cape credit with their professionalism. I will only want to stay there if I find myself in Gonubie again.
It is clean. The little apartment was cleaned every day with clean towels every morning. Everything you need to cook is in the kitchen. Built-in wardrobes in the room. Two bathrooms. Safe, with a play area for small children. Braai facilities. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Very safe.

A diamond in Gonubia. For anyone who wants to spend the night there for a day or 3 it is worth every penny, there is not much to do in Gonubie itself. We were very kindly welcomed by Tony, he and his wife made us feel so comfortable and at home. We also received delicious breakfast there in the morning and the cute little place is literally a stone's throw away from the beach. We will definitely stay there again!

We stayed at Chanteclear this weekend. What an absolute great place, the picture don't do it justice. it's even nicer there. The beach is just over the road. Lovely rooms and Tony and his wife were great hosts, they went out of their way to make our stay fabulous. From going out of their way to come and collect us at the airport to taking us back the Sunday and giving us a mini tour of east London. The breakfast on the deck is a great plus and absolute value for money. Will be back with our family for another longer stay there!

It was two nights, as an anniversary present, for my son and his wife. My son is extremely stressed out by his work at the moment so I asked the owners of Chanteclear to look after them and they surpassed all expectations. My son can be very nit picky and when I asked him, he said that everything was great. They went out of their way for my children and for that I say thank you from the bottom of my hart.

We were pleasantly surprised with the reception, the service is efficient and well organised, the room neat and clean (we especially like the tchokkie on the pillow), the breakfast is fantastic in the breakfast room with a superb view. We will definitely stay with them again if we travel in the area.
The setting was very appropriate, especially with our two whirlpools. With the view of the sea from the balcony, we could at least see the dolphins and whales playing in the waves!

Everything was perfect. Bedding was so clean and neat, wonderfully equipped for a family with small kids...so close to everything. We really had a lovely stay and would go back any time. The water pressure and taps could get some attention... and maybe a counter-top oven....as the wind was blowing so heavy outside we couldn't braai, so it would have been nice to place the meat in an oven to cook.
