All the rooms are furnished with a king-size bed, which can be converted into 2 single beds. The Single Basic Tiny Room is the only room that is furnished with a single bed. Each room features bathrooms that are fitted with showers, basins and toilets. Other facilities include a safe, a hairdryer, and free Wi-Fi connection. All rooms, besides the Tiny Single Basic Room and the Family Eyrie Suite, have Android TV's and guests can access their own streaming accounts. Room service is offered daily.
The guest house has 2 conference rooms with modern facilities for up to 25 delegates. Conferences can be held inside, or for smaller groups, the sea-viewing terrace is a lovely place to have a meeting during summertime.

This was my first trip to Cape Town and my first trip abroad as a solo female traveler. The staff at Chartfield Guesthouse was exceptionally helpful from the initial booking, arranging airport transfers, and just being genuinely gracious hosts. The view from my room of the bay was spectacular. Waking up to the sunrise and the sound of waves was an extra bonus that I didn't expect. Their coffee and breakfasts were some of the best I had during my stay. As a first-time solo female traveler, I had my concerns about safety, but those were unfounded as I walked everywhere without any issues.

What we liked: The room is very neat, the bed is big and very comfortable, and the view from the room is really fantastic. The bedding is of very good quality and we slept like kings. There is also a coffee machine in the room! The shower head sits nicely high; we are both tall and could take a nice shower. A small detail such as indicating which way the shower handle should be turned for hot water pleasantly surprised me. (Also, the shower is nice and big). The Chartfield team were very friendly and always eager to help us. Also where we walked in the village and saw workers in their black tops, they were very friendly. The location is really excellent. We could walk everywhere in Kalk Bay we wanted to be, and even though the climb from the main street is up a steep hill, the view we enjoyed makes it worth it. We asked in advance if we could get champagne glasses and an ice tray. They couldn't help us with the icebox, but kept our champagne in the fridge. We didn't have breakfast, but the stay includes a free morning drink every morning - and it's delivered to your room! It was lovely to sit on the stoep, drink a flat white and look out over False Bay. We never felt unsafe. Getting in and out of the guest house was effortless thanks to their good security system. What we didn't like: Parking on the street outside the guest house was tough. How it's not a one-way street is beyond me. We were lucky to find parking, but if you want to drive around a lot, you may struggle to find a spot again. The stairs to the attic are very steep and especially the descent was nerve-wracking for someone with a fear of heights. In general, there are a lot of stairs in the house - not a problem for us, but it might be something other people need to know. The guest house had a pack of chips, wine and water on the table in the room, but each with a price attached. We didn't expect any free items, but it was a bit unpleasant for me to know that a bottle of water costs R35 extra. (It's not about paying for it, but it's the best and most expensive room in the house). The room could benefit from a small fridge. Outside the guest house, a poster is stuck on a lamp post: Want to start yoga - Start by bending over and picking up your Dog sh*t. Yes, it's supposed to be humorous, but the fact that Chartfield at the bottom of the poster requesting this was completely "off brand". In summary: Kalkbaai is a lovely destination and Chartfield Guesthouse is definitely the type of place we will return to. It was a special occasion and we went for the Loft, but the other rooms may offer better value for money if you don't mind the view. We definitely recommend it.
One gets an absolute cosmopolitan (European) feeling. This was our second visit and we will definitely stay there again. Their staff is not very accommodating. We went to a show on Sunday night and when we came back other guests wanted to buy a cup of coffee, but the young man on duty didn't want to bother. They pride themselves on "room service" with coffee to order in the morning, but the coffee was cold and when I asked for sugar I didn't get it. The TV set only has pay channels, such as Netflix and Amazon.
Would suggest French press coffee in the rooms. While a coffee delivery to the room is OK, not having good quality coffee in the room is definitely a problem. Single-ply toilet paper at a 5-star place? Never seen that before [nor do I want to].
The guest house is neat and the people are professional. We have two complaints: It is bad that one cannot make coffee or tea for oneself in the room, this should be standard in guest house accommodation. We had no hot water to shower in the morning. Because we were in a hurry to eat and leave we didn't report it, especially since we only stayed there the one night. It was indeed a bad experience.
Breakfast by candlelight is so nice. Lovely ambiance. Complimentary cappuccinos in bed were such a treat for my mom and I over Mothers Day weekend visit with family in CT. Thank you for making us feel special.
The owner offered us his private garage to secure our motorbikes for the evening. Highly appreciated. This is a very nice place to stay for more than one night. Nice rooms and good food.
Fantastic breakfast, spacious room with good facilities and a nice view over Kalkbaai's harbour. There are restaurants within easy walking distance, as well as friendly and helpful staff.

I would definitely recommend the Chartfield guest house. We got good service, everything was neat and clean and generally I couldn't find anything wrong. The only thing I would like to mention is that we had fireplaces in our rooms, we were given boxes with thick logs, that's all. No thin wood, no blitz, no matches. We got back to the guest house very late after going out for dinner, it was cold and we had a terrible time getting the fire going. The other inconvenience was that we were a group of 10, I booked for 2 persons to sleep in a room. I booked 5 standard rooms which were all supposed to be the same so that there will be no distinction among the women. However, I got 2 standard rooms in the guest house itself, the other one was very far outside around the corner and then I got the family room with 2 rooms in and one bathroom for 4 people to share which was a bit uncomfortable. It was also very far apart. If I book 5 standard rooms in the future, that's exactly what I want and not other rooms that don't look at all like they do on the website.
I didn't like the idea of leaving extra money for washing dishes.
It's a very nice place and our room had a lovely view of Kalkbaai and Valsbaai. It's a shame there are no coffee making facilities in the rooms.

The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay, the views and the breakfast.
One small thing. I put the do not disturb sign up on Thursday morning because I was working, but when I left at 11:00 I swapped it to please make up the room. When I came back the room wasn't made up and didn't get made up that day. Whoever checked must have just assumed it was the same sign, so maybe just check. But it was not a huge deal. Overall my stay was fabulous and I'll be back.

Lovely stay on a rainy Cape winter evening. Fresh bedding, comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Tafeltjie was very convenient to enjoy takeaway. Just one small thing, a two prong plug for phone chargers would have been nice, few people travel with them. Breakfast was absolutely lovely, view perfect. Will definitely recommend.
Conveniently located in Kalkbaai is the beautiful guest house with a breathtaking view. Friendly staff who just can't do enough for their guests. Spacious with private bathroom. Get some coffee in bed! Just walk down the steps to the main street. Highly recommended.

I love Kalkbay area so its wasnt too bad for me and i was desperate to ge away for the wkend. Didnt like the no parking buzz and geting into the cottage. It was a mission.

For that price one would expect at least a bar fridge, kettle and more space. Parking is a big problem. The room was clean and neat, but not value for money.
No parking for your car - it's parked outside in the street without security. There are 8 doors and gates to open and close before reaching your room. No wonder they ask for a R1000 key deposit. They can easily consider DStv. The breakfast is excellent.
