100 guests' feedbackGood value for money. Hilda is very friendly, the place was spotless. Everything you need for an overnight stay or even longer. Well located in relation to wedding venues. We never felt unsafe. Will definitely call again.
I have also booked another room for my 2 colleagues who are with me at Kragdag. They were also impressed with service and accommodation. We will definitely book in next year for the duration of the show.
Was well surprised after I read a few comments. Place is neat, friendly people. Will visit again.
The bed is a bit mushy. But otherwise convenient.
Have nice place to stay.
We enjoyed it very much. The environment is peaceful. Received a very friendly reception and very helpful if we wanted to find out or needed anything.
Neat, clean and good customer service.
Off the grid, clean and excellent location. Walking distance to shop, braai facilty, great for short stays.
Awesome guesthouse and friendly service.
The owners are so friendly and helpful with anything that is a problem. I called her in the late afternoon on a holiday because I had forgotten some of my things and she was immediately helpful in reassuring me that she had found my things. The place is clean and tidy and will definitely visit again.
Very calm and quiet. Loved the feel of the farm.
The rooms are very stuffy and hot no fan in the middle of summer no window that can open. The shower is a whole other story. you either get scolded or you freeze there is no way to get a medium temp. Didn't even know it had a splash pool no one lets you know these things. .
When we arrived the R513 was very busy, but it quieted down and didn't bother. Thank you very much for the longevity milk, it was a thoughtful gesture.
Have you gone to see what the place looks like? We had bad experience in the place. Bathroom light not burnt. Toilet Clogged. Shower too Hot, then too Cold the water. I took photo of wiring.
The shower facilities were very nice, but the bed was another story. Come with the Voortrekkers. Very uncomfortable and the bedding itself is cheap and came off the moment you got into bed. Also did not come in next day to clean or put out dry towels. Hostess was not very keen to help when my mother asked if another room was available. Feel free to also put a TV in the room. Reasonable price, but then I at least expect to sleep comfortably. The sidewalk is very very high where you drive in and my car was also damaged there.
When we booked the place, there were no pictures of the outside. Not on the website and not on their FB page either. It was neat on the inside so thought I'd give it a try. The woman was helpful in letting us check in at 10 o'clock instead of 12 hours because we had stuff on the van. Upon arrival we noticed that there was no canopy. In front of the house were old rusty chairs and a table that you don't even want to sit at. The woman arrived and unlocked the place. She rattled off her rhyme and didn't even go into the house to show us around. Immediately she asked if we please can pay the difference even before we were inside to look. First thing I noticed was the extremely dim lights. You can see absolutely nothing unless you open the curtains and you can't do that because there are no lace curtains. The fridge was off, so we couldn't keep the kids' yoghurts and stuff really cold and the long life milk that was in the fridge was warm. The gas from the gas stove we were supposed to use for coffee ran out so we had to contact her to bring us another one. The bed is completely cooked, as my husband says, it feels like a water bed. The blankets on the bed were dirty, we slept under our children's blankets. Next to the chests of drawers, bedside tables and also in the shower are cobwebs and lots of daddy long legs. The towels in the bathroom were full of red marks, I'd rather not know what it was that was on them. The toilet's seal was finished. The water ran continuously, my husband had to turn the faucet on and off. There is no hot water at the sink and if you take a shower the hot water goes off and you stand under the cold water all the time. We struggled so much that we went without a shower and just washed. Honestly, we were only too grateful that the TV and the DSTV worked for the children to do something and watch. There is a play area far behind but there are a large number of dogs roaming around the yard. To be honest, I make quite a few reservations. If something is out of place then you notice it, because I can eat a lot before I will complain about a thing, but honestly I will not let anyone stay here for R600+ a night. The place is really not in a good condition and not clean at all.
Good location, except if you want to be close to main street activities.
Just need a new bed, springs come through mattress. Furthermore, it is stunning.
Very friendly service. Honest person. Forgot our charger there.
We were very comfortable. The place was clean and tidy. Nice shower facilities and large space.
Both mattresses in the room were just a little too soft. Maybe it could be looked into.
They need to look at the bed, felt like being on a ship, it is worn.
Nice and comfortable. Friendly service. Unit clean.
Guest house is clean and very relaxing.
Can only pay a little attention to cleaning supplies for rooms if staying longer than one day (broom, toilet brush and spray, washing up for cutlery).
From the outside it looks neglected and does not make a good impression. The room though is nice and tidy inside but the bed was old and uncomfortable and the headboard was falling off the wall.
We couldn't take a shower that night because the gas was out and so there was no hot water. I called, but no one answered. There was only 1 small blanket and on the bed only a duvet. The beds are very weak. The mattress is very thin. The toilet was clogged. No problem with rustic, but one then pays for basic things that were not in place in the case.
Off the grid. No gas in gas stove.
Only one problem. The gas stove would not light. As we don't smoke, nobody has a lighter with them. So we could not have our morning coffee/tea. Otherwise no problem.
Good service and a friendly owner.
The mattresses need to be replaced.
I was with my partner, we had fun chilling together.
The beds are really a big problem and the loud music until late by young people who checked in and partied there should not be allowed.
It is immediately off the Main Road. So turning in is quite difficult with a high pavement. 3 big dogs approach you at the gate and you are not sure what they will do. Also no bell to alert anyone you have arrived. Mattresses are a bit worn. Otherwise the local shopping centre offers a bike revving competition on a Saturday night which is not ideal.
No working fridge on arrival. Replaced fridge later but still not made cold only freezer part worked. Self-catering but not enough cooking utensils. No egg beater, no grater. No tongs. No working water on arrival and no hot water in master bedroom. No trash cans in bathrooms.
Coffee and sugar, no milk or milk powder. Against the road, so many vehicles whizzing by. Sheets old, but clean. Cheapest with reason. Did sleep well and was able to take a hot shower. Makes me feel like backpackers.
The beds in the unit we slept in were not up to the expected standard. However, the bathrooms were clean and tidy.
The room was clean, but the bed is not acceptable at all. Like dirty bedding that was on it. The rest was just general. Just had an incident in the shower, the floor at the shower very slippery, fell and got injured. Wasn't impressed on arrival, had to wait 20 minutes for keys.
We had no hot water, I fixed it myself by fixing the geyser. The water was dark brown brackish water (assume it was borehole water). We couldn't use it at all for our 2 month old baby. The beds are the worst we have ever experienced and the bedding stank. The people were there when we checked in but did not check once to see if we needed anything or if we were okay. We traveled a long way from East London and thought we would just stick around but after the second night we decided to look elsewhere instead (after paying for 3 nights). No, we'll never see that place again. Those mattresses are barbaric.
There are a few things that stood out for us, the owners were very friendly and helped immediately when they found out our shower water was not getting hot, but there are a few other things that were not ideal. 1. The water pressure in the shower was too low to keep the water warm all the time while showering. 2. Each of the three guests had problems with the hot water when we showered. 3. The shower's water has not flowed since the evening. 4. The blind in the bathroom was broken, it didn't go up, we had to fix it first.
The place is big enough and clean and tidy, but there are a few things that really need attention like the entrance door that doesn't close properly and doesn't latch when it's open. Bathroom lacks proper table, shelf in shower. Coffee area also needs a table for kettle.
Daar is geen breekware nie maar wel 'n braai, moes dorp toe ry om eetgerei te gaan koop.
At least the bedding was clean, but the beds and mattresses were hollow and worn out. One bedroom door doesn't even have a bottom hinge. One door does not have a handle. Kitchen has no oven or trash can, had to put everything in plastic bags. Fridge makes terrible noise and there is permanent water lying in front of fridge, probably because it dates from the fifties. No kitchen cloths or soap, had to buy cloths and dish soap to wash dishes. No wine glasses, women had to drink wine from brandy glasses. Very dissatisfied, will never refer anyone there, sorry.
We wanted to sleep well. They should definitely pay attention to their mattress, we put the mattress on the ground the second night just to be able to sleep better. Other than that, I can't complain about the place. We just didn't sleep.
Would definitely recommend Cheval Tachete and visit it again.
We as students slept very well, good value for a limited budget.
Recommend that resort work on the presentation of the outside of the guesthouse. Like gardens and roads between units as well as the fences. This will give the place a much better look that is more attractive.
They spoiled our children a lot.
Good value for money, very neat and tidy, very accommodating.
Can recommend a fan for the room. Mattress slightly worn through, but the rest was very clean and tidy. Might add more privacy front door.
Hilda was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and I found everything in order.
See stars.
This house is not what you see on the web. It is a very old house, clean inside with bad on the eye finishes. The only furniture in the bedroom is a base and mattress, no cupboards and zero blankets or other linen.
No TV in the rooms. The swimming pool is small and the braai area was in between other areas.
Not again in my life, for what you get it is very expensive and very poor.
No star rating can be assigned to this place. The room is poorly finished. As a rule, I don't usually read a whole lot of reviews when I want to book a guesthouse. This experience at Cheval Tachete taught me a lesson. Nice pictures and value for money is not an option. The room has no place to accommodate suitcases, no room to hang clothes. The bed is in such a state that I had to sleep in my car for most of the night. Fortunately, there was a kettle to make hot water so I could wash out a bit out of the sink (the gas geyser didn't work). For our second night, I managed to get to another house and slept well.
Even the linen in all bedrooms was dirty. We wanted to swim on Friday, however the owner told us that the pool was dirty.
Accommodation was excellent, enough space for everyone. Children could play outside. Adults had a sheltered area where they could enjoy themselves. Good security.
Very friendly people. We had a nice time and just rested. The puppies and horses were a bonus.
Accommodation and room was neat and clean. The decor was tasteful. I would just request that the area around the rooms be kept neat. There was some building material lying around and the grass behind the rooms were very long.
The place was the best for me and my husband. The rooms were nice. Enjoyed our stay.
We were received very kindly after a long journey, room and bathroom were clean and tidy with lots of space and space to move. Lovely big shower with hot water. We stayed after a wedding and were able to check in late, there was no problem with that. Quiet and peaceful environment with privacy. Thank you very much for your hospitality, and will definitely recommend them.
Someone neglected on the outside, but neat, clean and deluxe on the inside. Would definitely book a stay at Cheval Tachete again.
Rooms clean and tidy, no shelves in cupboards, just a communal braai, no contact with owner or staff.
Sterk riool reuk by die hoofslaapkamer. Alle slotte en sleutels werk moeilik. N goeie flukse skoonmaker en '"maintenance " persoon sal beslis n aanwins wees. Sodra dit gedoen is kom ons asb terug vir n baie langer kuier. Groetnis
The place looks like a backyard, unkempt around the place. We definitely wouldn't recommend it.
Enjoyed it very much and was very peaceful. The accommodation is not very far from the village. There are just a few things that bothered us a bit. The water pressure was very low and as soon as you opened the cold tap there was no hot water. The yard's fence is also very low and one does not feel too safe. There is also no TV. It didn't bother us, but if someone is maybe going to stay there for a long period of time it might. I can see that the owner is busy with construction and alterations to improve the place. I quite like the zinc wall they built around our room's entrance for privacy.
Will not use the place again.
No aircon available, the place was bloody hot. Had to ask for a fan, later went to buy one myself and only then did we get a fan from the "caretaker". The room also had no fridge, could not keep milk cold for small child who was with. Only the next day we saw that in the room next door there was a fridge available and we had to ask the "caretaker" if we could transfer it to our room. On arrival the room was full of cobwebs and the double bed mattress was very uncomfortable. The owner offered us a R200 discount for the inconvenience.
Earn no star. Owners not seen at all. Rubbish is everywhere outside. Not safe at all. Beds old as well as furniture. Would not recommend at all.
Weak. No hot water. Bedding dirty. Heaters blow cold air. Not happy at all.
Access route from street very bad and not suitable for low vehicles. Something drastic has to be done about the environment. Like, for example, tidying up the yard and removing a hundred pieces of waste. Softer pillow provided or ask guests to provide their own.
Right from the get-go until we departed, everything was comfortable. Clean room, friendly owners and a private room.
The unit is very cute, clean and very spacious. The bathroom is brand new with a beautiful big shower. The owner was very friendly. We asked for extra towels and got it within minutes. It is very well and conveniently located in Cullinan - very close to all the wedding venues. We will definitely use them again.
Had a good stay. Breakfast was delicious. Will visit again!
Our room was a neat, spacious and clean room. Even if the owner had a family crisis, we were still received kindly by their employee and everything was in place for our stay. Would definitely stay at Cheval Tachete again. Would love to have a fridge available as Cullinan can get quite hot and a cold one is always welcome. Bedside lamps, also maybe a good idea but certainly not a reason not to make use of this accommodation.
Cheval Tachete very neat and decent. Large spacious rooms and shower. Each room has its own 'personality' which makes it unique. Thank you for your hospitality.
Very neat and clean. Quiet and well located. Would prefer hanging space for clothes and also burglar bars in front of windows.
With the cold we had almost no hot water showers! It runs on gas so it put a damper on our cold weekend. Although the owner tried to fix the gas system, the water was still cold. They will need to pay attention to it very urgently. There is also not enough information regarding the accessories in the apartments, e.g. there are no fridges, plates, cutlery, towels, but at least there were cups. One does not want to extract everything from the owners and expect a little more information. Another sore point was the duvet covers which are full of holes and it doesn't create a good impression. The place is generally very homely and spacious and the owners very friendly. If all these things are put in place, we will definitely stay there again!
Few things that bothered. There is no place to hang any clothes. Also, no space to hang any towels. The shower drain is clogged and the water takes a long time to drain. The single bed mattresses are not of a good quality.
Good place for one night, though I wouldn't recommend for a longer stay, as they don't have the necessary facilities such as cupboards, a microwave, oven, fridge, etc. The property needs some attention and they need more security.
Ideal for a night's sleepover for business, a wedding or function. Clean, tidy with modern finishes. a bigger mirror would have been useful in the room. The curtains are very light and the sun forces you out of bed before 5 o'clock. Furthermore it was perfect for our needs which were 1 night sleepover after a wedding.
The owners went through effort to come open the gate for me when I arrived late at night. The place isn't exceptional, but it met my needs for a quick stopover. A fan would be much appreciated in the summer. The bedding wasn't ironed and no top sheet was available.
Would like to have a fridge in room as well as a fan or air-con. It was very hot. The room was dark too. A big mirror would help, we struggled to do our makeup for the wedding.
Friendly host. Neat, spacious rooms. Great location close to all attractions.
Nice stay, friendly reception. The should put TVs in the rooms and they should make a plan with the irritating flies. No fans in the room, no tables, and no place to hang clothes. Luckily I brought my own table otherwise had to put everything on the floor. Rooms are spacious but need burglar bars and mats in the room as well as the bathroom. The bathrooms are spacious but there are no storage space, tables or hangers for clothes. Beautiful place. I recommend it. Will be back if they sort out these issues.
On arrival at Cheval I had to phone twice to find someone who could let us in, because there is no bell to ring. The gardener had to open the gate and I had to follow him to the back where the rooms are. Dogs and horses walk around freely in the yard, which is not the problem. You have to open and close the gate yourself so when the storm began it was none too pleasant. The bed was the worst - my wife and I were afraid to sit on it since it sounded like it would break any minute (I suggest that the owner lies down on the bed himself and then decides if it is acceptable). The kettle was dirty, so we opted to leave at 6:30 the next morning to drink coffee elsewhere. After addressing these problems, this could be a lovely place. The neatness and finishing touches to the room as well as the bathroom is excellent. However, until this day, I don't know what the manager looks like. What if we wanted to speak to someone regarding the above mentioned?
