Last visit on Chavel Vapeur was so much better and relaxing than the first few times.
This is the perfect place if you are stressed, depressed, overworked and anxious. It's relaxing and calming and helps you clear your mind.

Cheval Vapeur was a great getaway for myself and spouse, as we got married the Thursday night and chose Cheval Vapeur, because it suited our pockets as it was Affordable and good sevices was ended, I would recommend Cheval Vapeur to all my friends and families. Go well Cheval Vapeur.
Got lost at first. But when arriving it was fun and cosy. The staff are amazing and the privacy is great.
Although the receptionist was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were in a very poor condition. I understand it's a farm atmosphere, but I believe there are thousands of people on the web who live on farms, whose houses are not full of flies. We also couldn't really sleep because the curtain doesn't close the window, so the light shines through from outside. The bathroom, which some chalets have to use, is not inside chalets as advertised. This means that you have to go out in the evening to visit a toilet. It is clear that the owners are not interested in upgrading the chalets, when in fact it could be a very nice place to stay.
The place was dirty and the environment stinks.
My children enjoyed them and took pictures on the horse. I also took a bunch of pictures.

I paid for 14 people, 1 had to cancel due to health. Of the 3 cabins, we could only use 2. The 3rd one was locked, which means 6 people had no place to sleep, and had to leave the premises and find a place to sleep.

On arrival we felt so at home already. It is shocking how quiet this place is and thinking Vanguard is a stone throw away, crazy right! I cannot wait to visit again. Needs a heater, it was very could.
For the price I should have known it was going to be a bad experience. There were old beer bottles in the room, there was old ice cream in the fridge, sorry but people can't live there, instead make it R200 more expensive and make sure everything is at least clean.
Initially things were fine, but throughout the stay I had trouble contacting my host, certain things I requested did not happen such as removing the rat from my room. I did not expect a 5-star stay, but certainly do expect customer service. Would not recommend based on customer service.
The location is convenient, not too far. It was okay staying in Johan. But next time I would stay in chalets of 400.
Cheval Vapeur was a great place and had a great view with loads of open space. The people and staff was friendly and made sure we had everything we need. I even got to touch a horse for the first time. I can't wait for the next trip back and endless more bookings with Cheval. 100% safe and child friendly.
It was good place, the issue of no water and a toilet in the house did not sit well with me.

I enjoyed my stay nice old fashion decor, the makes a lot of nice, just some to towels would be nice to have.
The farm was hard to locate and was far from everything, full of spiders and had no hot water and the bathroom was 50 m away. No lights outside at night.

Really disappointed. First got lost as the road only has one board by the main gate. Our car got stuck in the sand. As for the living ways: very unhygienic. Ablution points get padlocked at night making it very difficult to go to the loo at night with kids. Yes, you do get a key, but very frustrating trying to open a lock when a toddler has to go urgently. The place has flies all over. You cannot sleep during the day or make food at night as the flies are everywhere. The carpets in the cabin are so so dirty, your feet get black walking on it barefoot. Bathrooms are not kept clean even if they say they do. It's dusty, has spider webs and bad smell too. We came back more than a week earlier than booked and lost a week's paid accommodation. I couldn't anymore. To top it off even after using 2 cans of doom in 4 days and Toilet Duck every time I went to the loo, it was still unhygienic. I do not know how in the world this place can advertise itself even after all the bad reviews. Will not refer anyone to this place ever.
It is untidy, unhygienic, inconvenient, unsafe and, in addition, everything except as suggested in the photos. Great disappointment.
Everyone is very considerate and very helpful. We feel very safe and friends who visit enjoy it just as much. A very peaceful place to just get away from your everyday life and would visit again anytime. It is really value for money and is ideal for children too.
I loved the place! This is not for snooty city types that want to watch TV etc. But if you love the outdoors this is most pleasant.
John and Colleen were extremely friendly and welcoming. The farm is a rustic, down-to-earth, value for money experience for those who love horses and nature. We enjoyed our experience and would recommend this venue highly! The horses were so wonderful to be around and the timber cottage was a delight with all our needs met: toaster, kettle, oven and even amazing art. Will definitely be back!
The owners are wonderful. Loving and warm. They cared for my son and I. Taught us a lot about horses. My son even did some horse riding.
At first I was full of doubts because it was difficult to find the place. GPS led us to the ash pits and a person there said that we were the 4th car that came there looking for the place. Once we got there, we had a great time and were kindly received. The staff is very helpful. I will sleep there again. Absolutely excellent value for money.

It was a lovely stay, however the pictures on the website need to be updated with current ones. A bit of maintenance all round is definitely required.

Cheval Vapeur has the potential to be a great destination. Chalets nestled midst a working horse farm, with beautiful sunsets while we enjoyed our braai. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. Driving out to various destinations and back from different directions was a bit of a challenge.
It was an experience on its own. People were friendly. If you love the feeling of a farm then it is it. Love the horses, just a pity rides are not offered.
It's a crooked shack without water. There is a shower and toilet a few hundred meters away.
Accommodation does not look at all like photos on website. Very, very misleading. Wendyhuis' corrugated iron roof was loose and lifted all night as the wind blew, no sleep. Garden furniture outside by braai area was dirty and chairs rotten you couldn't sit on them it will break.
Photos on website and what the place is really like, very deceiving. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Peaceful and quiet with a nice view of Table Mountain. It was also neat and clean.

The house is small, but equipped with everything you need if you were to camp. It is neat and has enough space to sit outside or to walk around. The children really enjoyed being among the horses, they could feed them and drop in on their favorites every day. The toilet and shower cabin were neat and private, you don't have to share them with a bunch of strange people. If you like horses, this is the place to stay. We felt very safe and really enjoyed it.
Would recommend it to anyone who likes silence and nature. Own transport important. Quiet and peaceful. Friendly people.
Will not be to everyone's taste, but at these rates it is very comfortable. Small wooden houses with outside ablution facilities was quite an experience! My wife and I stayed in the apartments and really appreciated the antique furniture. The whole setup is functional and well suited for a few nights sleepover and use as a base to explore the area.
It was an old Wendy's house, which feels like it's collapsing to the side when you walk into it. The evenings were very restless with cars racing. Mrs. Mouse was waiting for us in the kitchen. There was litter on the site. Cigarette butts were in the toilets. But what do you expect for R100 per person. The owners are friendly and helpful.
