104 guests' feedbackThe rooms were spacious and clean, staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was very good. Perfect send-off for a trip into the Cederberg.
Good service, tidy, air conditioning was very welcome, as well as a clean pool.
Power a big problem.
Friendly staff and very helpful. It was a nice breakfast.
The location of the hotel is nice and central in the town and close to everything.
It was pleasant, but does not compare to the previous accommodation we have used during this tour. The dispensation was a problem. The person begging on the sidewalk also causes discomfort.
It was just fair. Clanwilliam itself is not wonderful. The hotel gave me everything I needed for the night. There are better places on the outskirts of the town. Not many places to eat. The hotel did allow us to leave cars safely as a bonus.
There could be better contingencies for loadshedding. There is no generator. Gate at 'secure' parking did not work due to load shedding - just push it open and closed. i. e. not secure. WiFi was slow. On arrival, we were told breakfast only started at 7.30 am which was too late for us in order to make the 8 am start of the ride. However, breakfast was served from before 7 am (wrong info provided). Majority of residents this evening were participants in a cycling event. The hotel could have provided a more 'cyclist-friendy' breakfast option e. g. oats, bananas rather than bacon and eggs. Although some cyclists are not really worried, we would have preferred the option at least.
Outdated - Need upgrade. No Wi-Fi.
The staff at check-in were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean but felt it was not worth the price. We watched the Springboks match in the dining room and had some drinks. A good choice in beers but no campari for my wife. We ordered a steak medium rare and my wife's was still cold and must have been in the pan for a few seconds and full of sinews. Mine was totally overdone but edible. They did take her steak off the bill and we did not chance breakfast the following morning.
The TV didn't work for the whole time. The boiler in the room did not work. There was no hot water. The blanket was not clean. The corridors were pitch dark during load shedding. At breakfast, the waitress did not want to cover another place at our table. According to her, there were not enough cutlery?!
I have rarely been as disappointed in a website's accommodation option as I was with Clanwilliam Hotel. Travelers are lured with carefully taken photographs to a site where the reality deviates totally negatively from the expectation that is created. The room was small, two people couldn't be in the bathroom at the same time, the roof of Room 24 was mouldy, none of the WiFi options worked (despite a call to reception), the dining room was soulless and almost completely dark during "loadshedding", the dinner was average at best and the breakfast was disappointing with several bowls already empty by 09:30. I found the place to be soulless, tired and disappointing and I feel taken advantage of because the whole experience does not justify the price under any circumstances.
Friendly help with luggage.
The size of the room as well as the fireplace was really a welcome bonus.
The town is dilapidated and struggles with electricity. The hotel needs attention. Soap holder e.g. is out of order. This is for quick overnight only and I doubt the value for money. Wouldn't just suggest Clanwillian as an overnight town, maybe better to get something out of town if you have to.
Just spent the weekend at the hotel with 4 friends. The staff were great and looked after us very well. Rooms were clean and neat, restaurant was really good too. I would recommend this spot without hesitation.
Very helpful, hospitable and their meals were delicious.
Meals are very good.
All the rules and meal times were explained very well to us.
The street is very busy in front of the Hotel.
There are no tissues in the room and no air freshener in the bathroom. The water's taste is undrinkable, and it would be wise to place 2 bottles of water in the room.
No phone in room. No shower cap, shampoo or cream. TV above mirror cabinet. Couldn't watch TV from bed without physio for neck muscles. R2500 for VIP room. Worst hotel experience ever! Breakfast was very nice.
Breakfast was below average. Room was on the road side and trucks drive through the night and are very disturbing.
A little bit soulless and stark.
Since our last visit to the hotel three years ago, there are clear signs of decay in the building itself and the cleanliness of the rooms.
What a disappointment. We had to leave our vehicle in the busy, narrow street in front of the hotel because there was no other parking available. Unloading our luggage was a nightmare, in the narrow street next to us vehicles rush up and down and on the narrow sidewalk on the other side a stream of people walk. Our room was spacious but the layout is very poor. The TV is on the same wall as the bed's headboard which makes it very difficult to watch TV, then I must add that in each case there was more snow than picture on the TV. In the bathroom, an "extractor fan" that helps with the steam when you shower would have been welcome. Breakfast was just another disappointment.
We request 100% refund. Reception was not aware of our booking. The website's agent Bradley is aware of this.
It was a pleasant experience. The rooms are very nicely furnished and tidy.
See stars.
Rooms tidy, short for winter electric blankets and light for loadshedding.
The people are helpful and friendly. We ate at the hotel that evening and can recommend it. The price of the drink is really very reasonable and we were surprised by that. The room is spacious and clean. The only thing that bothered me was the cleanliness of the bathroom. More attention can be paid to the mold on the walls and roof.
We recently stayed at Clanwilliam Hotel for just one night. We were received very kindly and the check-in process was quick and easy and our room was immediately available. Als very neat, the bathroom windowsill and floor were not 100% clean and the towels a bit old and stained. The bed was wonderfully big and soft. Slept very well. We were just surprised that the restaurant's options were so limited on a Friday night.
Hotel needs some TLC.
The bathroom needs scrubbing, the furniture needs moving and cleaning underneath all ledges skirtings cleaned. The public rooms/areas need cleaning. The outside aircon units were spewing water from above and there is black mould and slime above a person and on the ground as one enters from the rear rooms. Breakfast with a full dining room on both mornings had one poor girl doing everything. Fried eggs cooked hours ago in the scrambled egg no cooked tomato. No small plates no small spoons to eat yoghurt no teaspoons. Smiling faces at reception but still, the back gate did not work. It is sad.
The hotel has nice and spacious rooms with modern facilities. Meals are also delicious.
Very nice bed with nice bedding.
Very nice with big rooms. Breakfast is delicious and staff is very friendly. Car must be parked outside in the street but there is a guard who will watch. WiFi was very bad.
The staff was great. Everyone was very friendly. Room was beautifully clean.
Food is great - good value for money. Not enough secure parking, but parking in the main street in front of the hotel seemed to be safe (and was). The R100 gift voucher towards supper was a great way of getting us into a good dining room/restaurant.
Parking area for cars is very small and makes it difficult. Hotel can invest in new mattresses. Food very nice and room and hotel are clean.
Accommodation was lovely and they didn't spare any trouble to move us to another room.
Accommodation met our expectation. Cost of parking of hotel is exorbitantly high.
Exceeded all expectations. Thank you and well done! Our country needs more places like this.
Quite noisy until after ten.
Hotel and rooms do not look at all like on the website! Breakfast was awful, either burnt or raw (flapjacks)! No WiFi, filed a complaint, there is nothing wrong with that! Material in room about Clanwilliam and restaurants and places to visit must have been updated 10 years ago! Was really disappointed!
On a road trip through the Western Cape, we stopped in Clanwilliam for 2 nights. The hotel was a brilliant choice. The staff were very helpful in advising some great activities for our short stay. Big room, great bed and a great restaurant all made our stay very enjoyable.
Staff were very helpful in moving us out of their own accord to a room on ground level and close to car, not to climb so many stairs and also helped with bags. Set menu for dinner and the breakfast was delicious.
Warm, big room, delicious food at their restaurant on the premises, friendly service at the restaurant, homey atmosphere. We will definitely stay there again and recommend it.
The toilet did not work well, but the shower was lovely. Enjoyed the weekend there, thanks.
The Clanwilliam Hotel room was neat and decent. The restaurant and food was good. They were helpful and friendly.
Upon our arrival the power was off, but they were prepared with candles and made us feel so at home. Rooms are neat and clean and dinner and breakfast were both prepared and served with care.
Friendly and helpful staff. Clean room. Well worth the money. Only negative side was the parking. Parking behind hotel was full, had to leave my vehicle in front. Parking behind hotel is small. But other than that good place to sleep. Even prepared a breakfast takeaway as I left very early.
Stayed overnight, had a great stay and ate.
The parking is a problem, therefore very unsafe. Then I would like there to be a rate without breakfast. It was show time so you don't have time to eat breakfast so my husband and I both missed our breakfast but had to pay for it.
The staff are all friendly and try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We had one of the outside rooms which are very clean and spacious. We ate in the hotel on Wednesday night and their food is really good, as is their breakfast. I would recommend them to anyone without hesitation. The only drawback is the small parking space within the premises.
Very friendly reception. Room was very modern and clean. Bathroom has a good layout and is very practical. Staff are friendly.
Excellent, neat, clean and friendly service.
The hotel was everything we expected and more. The reception was friendly and breakfast was delicious. Good provision was made for my baby (cot and high chair). It was awesome.
Was the Saturday of a long weekend. Other accommodation was minimum 2 days, hotel one night, right choice, central in town and although vehicle had to stay overnight before hotel, very safe.
Stayed here for 1 night with friends. Rooms neat and comfortable. Restaurant's food very average.
Unbelievably extremely delicious.
Had a nice stay in hotel. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Checked in late and lady was very helpful.
We had a very nice stay at Clanwilliam Hotel. Friendly people. Very helpful. The room is very nice and has a fireplace (it was a cold weekend).
Good place to sleep, enjoyed it.
Pleasantly surprised with the nice and spacious facilities of the hotel. We were kindly received and had a nice stay.
Very clean and tidy and would recommend to any travellers.
Very nice time with very friendly people in the area and many places to visit.
See stars.
Friendly staff, neat room. The breakfast was absolute chaos. Not enough tables and chairs to accommodate all the people. The bread containers were empty we had to ask for bread. Had to wait a long time for fried eggs. The table was not neatly set again after the guests had finished eating breakfast. We had to fetch our own cutlery from the kitchen. We had to ask for coffee, no one comes to ask you if you want coffee. The amount of staff could not serve everyone and keep guests satisfied. Tip: Flower time is busy. More staff and more hands will address the situation.
Neat and comfortable accommodation. Clean and spacious room with the necessary facilities. Nice breakfast. Will stay overnight again.
Lovely reception, friendly staff made our stay pleasant.
We were received kindly and the room and bathroom were very nice, neat and clean. We slept nice and warm and comfortably. Just a pity there isn't a relaxation area, apart from the swimming pool, where you can have a drink, the bar and restaurant only opened later, so we just headed for town.
There were few people in the hotel on the Saturday night, so maybe a bit difficult to judge service level. It was very good. Dinner and breakfast eaten inside the hotel, were very good and tasty. Room is large, neat and clean and looks like it has been recently redone. Tastefully done. Located on main street, parking at cost behind the hotel with electric fence and gate. To recommend.
See stars.
Nice and friendly staff. Always greeting one with a big smile. Its a pity that one has to pay for parking at R50 a day. I would expect free parking for residence of the hotel.
Too sympathetic to personal needs. A quiet room and willing to provide for breakfast despite an early departure.
Just a shame the king size bed wasn't extra long - I'm a tall man and my feet crossed at the front!
Could make a bigger effort with visitors. Would've appreciated assistance with baggage to and from room. Provide more options for softer pillows. Put fresh milk in rooms.
There are a few things that made me unhappy, one of them was that my car was parked outside while there were other cars parked inside the hotel. Second, the bedding was not completely clean. For a two-day stay, there was only one toilet roll and a small bar of soap. There were also only drinks for one event.
Hotel is stunning and great service. Clean rooms and friendly people.
Neat, good food and quick and friendly staff.
Friendly staff. Lovely spacious room with king size and single bed. Air conditioning made the room warm and cosy. The food is delicious and the portions are generous.
The breakfast for a Hotel of this standard is unacceptable. Once again the cooking sensibility is lacking. The canteen staff are so poorly skilled, which is also unacceptable for a hotel. They should invest in training their staff. They must be taught how to cook, how to present the food. For example, the Sunday lunch was roast potato, mashed sweet potato, white rice, mixed vegetables, chicken pie and a pork chop ALL of which was stacked high on the plate leaving no space on the plate? 3 starches, white rice, (terrible) roast potatoes and mashed sweet potatoes?
We slept in the Clanwilliam hotel one night for a cycling race and it was lovely. Big rooms, good service and very good food!
Friendly service, good location and comfortable rooms.
After a full day of work, it was the perfect place to end the day. We used the pool and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A nice peaceful retreat and the food was also fantastic.
I will just not recommend the dinner at all, the street made a lot of noise, the Spar and liquor store is just 100 m down the road and is very bothersome.
The family room we got was spacious and tidy. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Clean, modern room and great breakfast. More suitable for business travellers. Parking should be better organised. Information about the environment and restaurants should be provided in every room.
Comfortable, safe accommodation within walking distance from attractions, such as the art house and the flower show. Easy access to places with beautiful flowers.
Rooms were neat and clean. Really good value for money. Will stay there again.
Very pretty, clean and comfortable rooms. Friendly staff.
People are very friendly and atmosphere is great. Western Cape is in a different class.
Warm welcome from reception staff. Their knowledge of Clanwilliam and it's surrounds surpassed any travel guide book. Housekeeping were efficient and rooms were normally made up by the time breakfast was over. Food in the restaurant was good, wholesome cooking and very good value.
Huge room, characterlessly furnished, but clean and tidy.
Everything as you'd expect from a Cape hotel in a beautiful little town.
Our experience of the restaurant was extremely disappointing. Most of the guests had to wait more than an hour for their food on Friday evening. Some got up and walked after half an hour in which no waiter paid attention to them. One table of six received their food after an hour and a half and had to send some of their dishes back because the chicken dish was still raw.
The hotel's exit is on the sidewalk. Street parking is the only option most of the time as the parking in the back yard is limited and very cramped, and it's especially a problem if you're staying more than one night like we did. There is no lounge, and the armchairs in the bedroom are not very "comfortable". Street noise is prominent due to the location. The breakfast was only so-so and the one night we did have dinner there, the food was poor.
I last visited the Clanwilliam Hotel in 1990 - it was delightful! This new hotel is rather austere & characterless! The first presentation of my bill reflected an overcharge of some R400. Unacceptable! Sorry, I will not be returning.
