Our stay at Clarens Retreat over Christmas was fantastic. The view of the mountains, the friendliness of the hosts, the cleanliness and so much more. Clarens Retreat is one of those places that feels like a home away from home.
It was really an excellent choice. The owners are friendly and helpful. The accommodation caters just fine for every need and we could just rest and enjoy the area. Very well located, and excellently maintained. The on-site restaurant is open from Wednesday to Sunday.

Very luxurious and nice "warm" rooms. You can park your car and walk the whole town from here. Top restaurant also part of the premises with a warm fireplace and fresh flowers on the nicely set tables. We are more than satisfied with everything. Francois, Gerrit and Lindie are very friendly and happy to help with everything. Also has a generator that makes sure the electric time stays on all the time. Would definitely recommend and be back again.

The accommodation and restaurant were excellent. The security situation with Covid and otherwise was also very good.
The only negative thing was the water pressure in room 4. Twice I was left with shampoo in my hair, freezing and waiting for the cold trickle to return to full pressure with heat.

We slept in one of the studio apartments. The underfloor heating and electric blanket were fantastic. The room is very modern and the view from the veranda is very nice. The staff was extremely friendly and their breakfast very tasty. I would recommend the place to anyone.

Everything was beautiful at the Mountain View Apartment, but the bed is terribly hard, I slept on the sofa for 2 nights instead, because the bed was horrible!

Bathroom tiles were peeling, accommodation smelled of cigarette smoke and definitely not of a fireplace. Bedding has marks on it and blankets have hair on it. Accommodation also does not look the same outside as the photos and is not at the retreat as specified on the website.

The only negative aspect was that the two smaller units appeared to operate on one geyser. We had very little or no hot water for showering 2/3 mornings. A cold shower is less pleasant in a cold Clarens.

I haven't been so impressed with the quality of accommodation in a long time. The unit was clean, tidy and nice and big. There was someone who came to clean every day too! The unit is within walking distance of shops and eateries. Both Gerrit and Francois can pat themselves on the back with the lovely artistic and well-equipped units. I can't wait to visit you again. I miss the nice big tree in the front yard! Thank you very much for your part in making our holiday special.

Nobody welcomes you, but I enjoy that because I'm not someone who just goes around air kissing people. Only small issue is perhaps the braai. It is my own opinion, I like to braai, but I am full of nonsense and I braai with wood. So we just went out to dinner in Clarens.

The room is very neat and clean. We were kindly received and generally had a nice stay. The main gate doesn't lock at all, it's probably not such a big issue, because it's Clarens after all. We arrived on Friday and found milk in the fridge but it was not replaced when the room was cleaned on Saturday. We then had to drink black coffee on Sunday morning. On Friday night the water in the geyser got cold quite quickly but it was better on Saturday and Sunday. The staff were also very noisy early Sunday morning in the laundry room next to our room so we were awake earlier than we wanted to be. It was a room we slept in, and didn't really feel special.
Our short time at Clarens Retreat was very enjoyable. All I found wrong was the size of the fridge which is a bit too small for a self catering unit.
Accommodation is not only comfortable and clean, but also very well located and within walking distance of everything in town! We will definitely stay here in the future when we visit Clarens.

The unit is very small, but well equipped. On our departure, the unit was being emptied out to sort out minor issues with leaking taps and some revamping.
We really enjoyed our stay and would do it again anytime. Next time we will rent the big house and bring friends. It was conveniently close to everything and within walking distance of all restaurants and shops. For sure we will visit again!
It was nice to wake up in the morning to the singing of birds. It was a very pleasant experience. The room was neat and nicely furnished. With everything you need. Just right for 2 people. It is very close to everything but also out of the 'busy' part of town. I would recommend it to anyone anytime.
The little fridge in the room is not sufficient for self catering, If you want to stay longer than a day.
The water was an awfully big problem. The water pressure is not too bad, but it was either boiling hot or freezing cold. We just washed over the sink because of the water. We could also at one point hear the neighbors complaining about the water when they were burning. It's a beautiful place, but for value for money I'd rather stay somewhere else. We visit Clarens at least 3 times a year and have stayed in better and nicer places for less. The water unfortunately made it an unpleasant experience.
It was ideal for a one night stay especially because there is so much to see in the town. You just really need a place to sleep.
I really only missed two things at Clarens Retreat: 1. A TV AND 2. Covered parking for one's vehicle. Otherwise it is a very nice place to stay overnight.

There are hiking trails around the village. Golden Gate National Park is less than 20km away, whilst the more adventurous can bring their passports and visit Lesotho.
