88 guests' feedbackSecond time there. Will check in there again.
Was a fantastic place. The hospitality of Hanneck was top notch from our arrival to departure.
Lovely place, host very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this stay.
The host is amazing. We felt so taken care of by her hospitality. The house is lovely and clean. The location is very quiet and picturesque.
Daberas was one of our highlights during our holiday. Star Tree Lodge has everything one needs and the unit is well equipped. Angelo went out of his way to make us as comfortable as possible and we will definitely be visiting again.
We enjoyed the pool and the stars at night, and a lekker fire pit to sit around. The cooling system keeps the house nice and cool throughout the day. Lovely place and not far from Augrabies Falls!
Thanks for great service and a great place. We will definitely visit you again. The pool was a plus and that they sell ice and wood.
Hospitable, friendly. Beautiful place. Definitely staying longer next time.
To really appreciate Daberas Guest Farm you should preferably stay more than 3 days. Be prepared to turn off social media and public entertainment. It is truly a place where one can just 'be' and enjoy unconditionally without feeling guilty. Hannecke, Kobus and Angelo are extremely hospitable and exceeded our expectations. Thank you very much for the exceptionally pleasant stay. regards
There are few places like Daberas. It is always a privilege to not only stay in such a special place, but especially to enjoy the surroundings. Thank you very much for the way you share it with others.
The accommodation was very good and our host, Marian was excellent. Thanks.
We stayed at Daberas over the New Year's weekend. We were welcomed by Annecke upon arrival, who gave us the tour of the cottage and do's and don'ts. What an absolute pleasure to stay there! The cottage was clean, it had everything you needed. The pool was cooling on a hot day. It was beautiful watching the moon and the stars at night, it took me back to my childhood days growing up in Rust de Winter. And not forgetting the silence and peace night and day. The tour of the farm in the afternoon was really breathtaking, the landscape was something else. Two nights were not enough, we will be back. We thoroughly enjoyed our time spend at Daberas.
Beautiful place to stay, very neat and beautiful outdoor showers. We had a great swim and would definitely recommend Daberas. Thank you very much.
Tranquility of nature with the most beautiful landscape where one can forget about the city's noise and rush.
Beautiful, neat and well-equipped accommodation in which you can snuggle up to appreciate the distant Kalahari in peace. Special hospitality.
Exceeded my expectations.
Amazing location, top notch accommodation! We could have stayed longer. Will definitely go back!
We, our 8 year old son and friends visited Daberas for an amazing 2 nights. The tranquility and silence overwhelms you. We drove the 4x4 road on Daberas and came to the most incredible view. The house is beautiful, clean and has everything you need. To Hannecke, Kobus and grandson: Thank you very much for an incredible 2 days, what you created there on Daberas and your hospitality. My son still talks about the horses and Loula, the sheep. Thank you very much, we will see you again.
The location is remote and rustic, the house is simple but more than adequate. Furnishings a little outdated but functional. The hosts are lovely people and very warm and welcoming. We really enjoyed the surroundings, it was a fabulous experience.
We would like to thank Cobus and Hannecke for a wonderful Stay at Daberas Guest Farm. We were well received and everything was to our satisfaction. They really went out of their way. Very special thank you for allowing us to be ”family” for Christmas Day. It was a lovely gesture and a Christmas lunch to remember for a long time. Hannecke the duck was absolutely fantastic.
Air conditioning was a dream. The place is breathtakingly beautiful.
The house is nice and cool and very neat. Hannecke and Kobus are fantastic. Made us feel very welcome.
We immediately felt welcome, it's very peaceful! Although I didn't get time to take a salt bath I think just having the facilities is fantastic. I recommend that more than two nights are needed to completely switch off and to admire the surroundings.
Kobus and Hanneke are very kind and generous. I recommend other to go on the tour with Kobus: it is very interesting. Kobus knows a lot about the geology, flora and fauna of the amazing landscape. The accommodation is superb: big, very clean and you have your own swimming pool. Next time we'll stay for a week.
This place is food for the soul - not to be improved upon! The silence, stars and seclusion makes you wish you could stay forever. Ensure that you visit the lookout points.
Really recommendable. Beautiful accommodation with excellent location.
Daberas is located in a wonderful part of the Northern Cape. Our 2 days were heavenly and Hannecke and Kobus's hospitality is immeasurable. What a privilege to be able to experience it.
We had a one night stop over on our way from the Kgalagadi to Cape Town. Daberas was a fantastic experience from the minute we arrived until the moment we left with a drive and sunset to their stunning viewpoint that as a family we will remember for life. We pre-arranged for dinner and had a mouth watering meal prepared for us by the host Hannecke. We plan to go back in the future and will definitely stay for more than one night.
Exceptional hospitality. Highly recommended. Thanks a lot.
The house is very well equipped and comfortable. Kobus and Hannecke go out of their way to make us feel at home. The farm on the north bank of the Orange River is truly unique and beautiful. The opportunity to explore Daberas with its unique plants, rock formations and distant faces makes it unforgettable. What an experience! Thank you very much for your care and hospitality - we will definitely come again.
The house and pool were incredibly clean and tidy. The cooling system of the house was wonderful to sleep in. We loved the nice modern bathroom. The owners were friendly and hospitable. In the evening we couldn't wait to turn off the lights after dinner to stand and stare at the milky way for a while.
Our visit in the Kalahari on this farm exceeded all our expectations. Hannecke and Kobus' hospitality, knowledge of nature and environment was a big bonus.
The farm is a unique place and our tour on the area was a very valuable experience.
The best place where you can hear your own heart beating, it's so quiet, owners who will always help and chat and are hospitable. It's a place to get quiet and forget everything.
Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the stars and the rocks! Looking forward to returning.
Daberas did not disappoint for a moment. We had a lovely stay and everything was as described and more. Thank you very much, we will come again.
Beautiful surroundings. Quiet. Hanneke is a perfect cook! Sunset tour was beautiful! Would definitely recommend.
There is an ease about Daberas that pleasantly surprises you. The quiet natural beauty is matched by the hostess Hannecke and Mr. Kobus's enthusiasm and love for their piece of paradise. The units are remarkably neat and efficiently furnished. No effort is spared and even the knives are razor sharp. Furthermore, the entire farm is sensitively self-sustaining. Truly a must to visit the lookout point.
Friendly and helpful host, lovely lodge with lots of space and facilities, unfortunately in the middle of nowhere!
Many thanks to Hannecke and all they have done. It's very nice and quiet on the farm, well-furnished neat house, friendly reception and the trips on the farm are very informative and fun. Will definitely want to visit Daberas again.
Hostess goes out of her way to make it even more pleasant. It's obviously incredibly hot that time of year, but the units are cooled with water coolers and a swimming pool. It's a must for someone who is looking for tranquility and wants to get close to nature again, find peace of mind here.
Daberas is very remote, but once you are there you feel the closeness of nature! We had a wonderful time lying in the evening watching the stars, can't remember the last time we saw the milk away so clearly, how humble!
We were kindly received. The house was well equipped and clean. The rock formations are incredibly beautiful and we were lucky to see some animals as well. Definitely worth driving the paths to the viewpoints. If you stay here long you will forget what day of the week it is.
Silence and peace. If this is what you desire, Daberas is the place for you. It's a bit out of the way, but as Diana from Northern Cape Tourism says: "the Northern Cape is out of the way". Do yourself a favor and go on the Eco Tour with Kobus. Kobus is the wonderful source of information and opened up a world of wonder for us with his knowledge of geology and the plants on the farm. There are kilometers and kilometers of rugged scenery around on the walk, of course for the men there is enough space for them to play with their 4x4s. The unit where we stayed is beautiful and well furnished, nothing lacking. Book meals with Hannacke if you don't want to cook yourself. We ate deliciously. My only problem was that we had to drive after 6 days! We hope to visit Daberas again soon!
Daberas offers a wonderful relaxation in a peaceful atmosphere in a special geological region of South Africa. Kobus and Hannecke are exceptional as host and hostess and go out of their way to make one's stay as pleasant as possible. Our privacy was also respected and the facilities and living unit were among the best and we lacked nothing. The preservation of nature and animal life and the knowledge about it imparted to us also make Daberas one of the best places we have ever visited.
Hannecke is very hospitable and their chalet very well equipped with everything you could need - from a swimming pool to a lovely big bath. The farm is beautiful and we would have loved to stay longer to explore. An absolute experience for a city kid.
Definitely value for money, unbelievably beautiful. Owners were friendly and so helpful. No shortage in comfort or anything! You'll definitely see us again!
Overnight facilities were excellent, the owners accommodating and hospitable at all times and in all respects.
We will definitely recommend the place to friends. The owners were very warm and hospitable. They lent me a spare cellphone so that I could contact my husband who had to join me on the farm - they also offered to take us on a tour of the farm.
Daberas is a very very special place. It is really worth the drive there: The rugged nature and “mars-scape” scenery is unique! The guided sunset drive was just out of this world! The two suites that form the beautiful thatched roof house we had were perfect for our family of four. Everything was impeccably clean and very well equipped. We really enjoyed the open air bathroom, with its walls of rose quartz found on the farm. We loved the silence. The trillions of stars at night. The sunrise and sunsets. And, last but not least: the hosts are such wonderful, friendly people who really did everything to make us feel at home. We really appreciated their hospitality and we are very grateful for them sharing their farm and their knowledge of the region with us. Thank you for this unforgettable experience!
We had a warm welcome at the fantastic place, Daberas! The owners are warm people, very social and sweet. The place is amazing, the view is incredible! We had a terrific stay for a couple of days!
See stars.
Very neat accommodation with everything you'd need. The peace and silence of the environment was fantastic. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and dad enjoyed the 4x4 track even more. It was also the most beautiful stars I have ever seen. Friendly and helpful owners. I really recommend this place for those searching for peace and tranquillity!
It's a great place to find your soul and get away from the rush of life.
In addition to the accommodation that met all our expectations, it was wonderful to be able to walk and drive on the farm. The solar system and gas systems have given great service.
The house was very clean, well equipped and the view was fantastic. We will definitely go back again!
Hospitable owners, everything just as advertised, accommodation clean, spacious and organised. Farm is a geological treasure and beautiful view. Would stay there again anytime.
Take a deep breath, observe more and feel the vibrations.
We stayed one night, but really enjoyed the stay there. We drove out to the viewpoint in the afternoon, it's absolutely worth it. The accommodation was clean and neat with a farm atmosphere. We spent the evening chatting around the large kitchen table! Would like to go visit this beautiful farm again.
The farm is beautiful and the location is phenomenal - really something special. The house was rather disappointing. Although we were warned by the owners upon arrival that the toilet in the kids' bathroom was leaking, one of the basins in the main bathroom was also not functional. The basin in the kids' bathroom did not drain. It was freezing and there was no heating facility in the house. Although there was a gas geyser and gas stove, all other appliances are powered by solar energy. We did not have power on either of the 2 mornings and given that it was dark and freezing, it was very unpleasant. The kitchen had a lot of crockery, but very few utensils. The house is advertised as a self-catering unit and basics such as a bottle opener, can opener, egg lifter, braai tongs etc. should be provided.
It was the absolute right choice after a very traumatic time in my life. I will do it again and for sure go to Daberas again. It is clean, well equipped and offers you everything and more if you just want to rest and regain your soul. Thank you Kobus and Hanneke - you feel like friends after our week with you.
Definitely will Recommend it to all.
Value for money and very friendly people.
What a wonderful experience. Here you truly realise how insignificant we are in the creation. Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere, yet sometimes in the middle of nowhere is where you find yourself. Kobus and Hanneke are the best hosts, and nothing is too much for them. We left with tears in our eyes and will definitely go there again.
Break away from the hustle and bustle of life and come and relax. The place makes you relax and almost forget that life is so hectic. Will come to rest here again, only next time with a vehicle with which I can see all the places on the farm.
Absolute beautiful scenery surrounds you here, thank you for being able to share in your beauty! Hannecke is a wonderful hostess, spares no effort. We will definitely visit again, just longer next time!
Many thanks to Kobus and Hannecke for an unforgettable time on the farm. Your knowledge and love for this piece of earth is inspiring and truly a privilege to be able to meet such passionate people. Good luck with all your plans for the future. We will definitely visit again.
Here you can just forget about everything and just find the quiet and peace for your soul and mood.
We booked 4 days in Daberas Guest Farm. It exceeded our expectations. The cottage was large and clean and private. The talkative host, Kobus, is very well learned about the geological and ecological aspects of his farm. We have seen elands, hartebeests, springboks and gemsboks in abundance. The 50 km dirt road to the farm can be made in an ordinary car, but is better suited for a 4x4.
This is a venue to get away from it all. Our host and hostess made sure that we got the maximum benefit from the delights Daberas has to offer. Remote and stark desert landscape, fantastic views and comfortable accommodation with 220V, but off-grid otherwise ensures a peaceful stay. Ask your well-informed host (an amateur geologist) to tell you about the local geology, botany and environmental issues at Daberas.
Breathtaking and picturesque farm with various and also the most beautiful hiking trails. Our home was lovely and with an outside shower, perfect for the lovely weather. The home-made ice cream is a must and the cherry on top after a wonderful two days on this piece of heaven on earth.
This is an exceptional farm where our hosts Cobus and Hannecke were very knowledgeable and hospitable. The accommodation was luxurious. This is really a once in a life time experience!
Friendly reception and we were given more information on the area. The place is beautifully looked after and neat. The natural beauty is amazing and it's peaceful. The ideal place to relax.
The hosts (Hannecke and Chris) are very interesting people. Chris (owner) knows his geology and takes you on a one of a kind scenery route not many will ever see. Hannecke (owner) is one of a kind. Friendly, makes nice coffee and always there to assist no matter when. The area is something different from Augrabies. Its farm life. Basics. Gas, solar power but no plugs and limited signal (MTN works best at certain spots). But Hannecke does have a plan up her sleeve for that. The farm is close to Augrabies waterfall, Kakamas for a day outing in town and getting a KFC burger. But let's get down to the realistic life on the farm. 1) No need to lock all your belongings in the house when driving around 2) Yes, there are snakes and scorpions. We saw a small adder the first morning after we arrived. Chris removed a puff-adder from our stoep the evening after we left. If you keep the house doors close there is no problem. Always safety so look around and do the "under the bed, duvet and pillows" before you go to sleep. Remember. Cold requires warmth for reptilians. Advisable to bring your EPIPEN and Antihistamine with if you allergic to bees (not that there are any). 3) depending on what vehicle you drive 4x4 is required in certain areas especially the riverine. 4) Don't drive over animals, drive out of a spoor or damage nature (logic). 5) Ask Chris about the old mines. 6) Depending how many travels you about to undertake in the farm I took with 40 litres of fuel just in case. Kakamas is about an hour's drive away and Augrabies 40 minutes (due to dirt roads from farm to main road turn off at Blouputs). You have to see Riemvasmaak natural warm springs and swim in them. Visit Augrabies and try the nice spare ribs... be careful of the Baboons. Otherwise enjoy it. Felt like I was at my aunt's farm when I was young. You surely appreciate what you have and put things in perspective. PS: We had our 8 year old with and she wasn't bored one second.
If you need to get away from it all, Daberas is the place for you. It is an awesome Guest Farm in the Kalahari where you can experience the beauty of nature in, what meets the eye, extreme conditions. Owners Kobus and Hannecke live on the farm and they are excellent hosts, tending to your every need and ensuring maximum comfort. Sundowners at the lookout point was the highlight of our stay and a must see for potential visitors. There is a rather sandy stretch of dirt road leading to the farm and it would be wise to make enquiries with your hosts beforehand. We would love to visit Daberas again, but next time we will definitely stay longer than two days.
The owner took us on an interesting geological tour. Our hostess was very helpful to arrange a double bed in the living room so that 4 couples could sleep separately. The location could be advertised better on the internet ad. It was difficult to figure out exactly where the guest farm was relative to the falls. Some minor critique is that the outer door of one of the bedrooms was locked and didn't have a key, and that there's only one toilet.
We had a wonderful stay. The dirt road may not be for small sedan cars but don't let that deter you.
Lovely visit, friendly and interesting host and hostess. We had a great time talking about the area. Nature is special.
Although it is quite remote, it is precisely this fact that makes the experience so remarkable. Nature lovers will find it worthwhile. The location makes it possible to enjoy nature and unique landscape, as well as to rest from the daily rush.
Educational, relaxing surroundings, friendly hosts, everything you need in terms of supplies.
Provided there is an upgrade in terms of at least ceiling fans in the rooms (as it was 37°C) with no cooling facilities, and no power points, I will not be going back.
The beauty and tranquility are incredible, the owners are incredibly friendly and I can really recommend the farm.
A wonderful something else! Amazing nature, away from the world, with a fantastic host and wife, amazing field trips, billions and billions of stars, absolutely fantastic!
Hannecke and Kobus were great hosts, their knowledge of the area and it's history, together with their passion for this part of the country, makes it a great place to spend time at. The farmhouse was a pleasure to stay in. People who like "big sky" views at night will love it!
I recommend any person to enjoy a quiet getaway there.
The information provided was good. The hostess, a pleasure.
