Had a great time. Friendly service.
The view is breathtaking. Got nice treats and had a nice stay. Maybe consider a canopy at the braai area for when it rains and you want to hang out outside.
Absolutely stunning to experience a working farm! The view is spectacular and the handmade jam and jars of every breakfast type you could think of were so thoughtful. Don't even get me started on the fresh flowers from the gardens.
Als was excellent, Annelie was extremely friendly and helpful.
The beautiful scenery was salve for our soul! What a privilege to be able to experience the beautiful surroundings!
Awesome location, friendly staff. Absolute peace and quiet!
Beautiful surroundings, friendly host.
The labourers' residence right next door is very vandalized and noisy, car parks far from the residence with unexpected stairs, very difficult with older people. Paving is very uneven, especially at the braai, and the braai is a bit uncomfortable. Solar light is a hindrance in the dwelling, and the fireplace has been replaced with an electric heater, very sad. We would have preferred the choice of a TV.
The detail makes you feel at home immediately. From fresh flowers everywhere in the house to home-baked surprises in the pantry. The premises are very neat and clean with a lovely garden. Breathtaking view of the mountains. The host and hostess make you feel like family. The staff welcomes you with friendly smiles. The house is well equipped for even the cold winters with goose down duvets, blankets and heaters. Trust me this is the Free State's "best kept secret"!
The scenery is breathtaking and it is tranquility for the soul.
Real farm experience. Friendly service, fresh flowers, jam etc. Cell phone reception limited. During the rainy season, the farm road can present a challenge.
This was our second visit to De Lusthof and we hope to go again. The silence, rest and peace embrace you. We enjoy the sheep that walk past the house in the morning and then graze in front of the house again later in the day. The landscape is truly beautiful. This is definitely what we licorice people need.
Beautiful garden that invites you to have a picnic and appreciate the lovely view. Where you get away from the hustle and bustle and breathe in nature.
If you are looking for tranquility and a picture-perfect view, then this guest house is ideal.
The peace and quiet is worth it and all the necessary facilities are available to enjoy the time.
Neat farm house, beautiful view of mountains, farm sounds, neat garden, well equipped for cold. More than good enough to relax.
Away from the city with only nature to occupy you.
Will have to go back to see everything. Two days is too little.
Farm is beautiful with a breathtaking view. Annelie makes so much extra effort from the fresh flowers everywhere, a large selection of cereals, the most delicious rusks, fresh milk straight from the cow and a jar of the most delicious jam to a beautifully manicured garden. 5 star hospitality! We want to stay here for a long time!
Thank you very much Annelie for the lovely visit. The house is so beautiful and fully equipped. The view of the farm and the Malutiberge is breathtaking. We really enjoyed the farm atmosphere. The farm milk was delicious. We really enjoyed it, we had a good rest and will definitely visit again.
Lusthof is located about 13 km outside Clarens, between breathtaking mountains. Our stay was a lovely break from the 'hamster-wheel' we currently find ourselves in, amidst the Covid pandemic. There is no signal reception on the farm, unless you stand under the big acorn tree, which suited us very well. The cottage is well furnished and there is everything you need - you just need to bring your food. One can go for a lovely walk on the working farm and even look at all the sights. We will definitely visit again - and it was with a heavy heart that we left this loop court.
A particularly beautiful prosperous farm in a water-rich valley surrounded by mountains. The farmhouse is well equipped. Our needs were accommodated in every way. Close enough to Clarens and Golden Gate to visit, but far enough to enjoy the absolute silence and peace.
Beautiful, spacious well equipped house. The environment is very beautiful and you can really switch off and relax.
Will definitely visit again. Rest for the soul.
We really enjoyed our visit. Would love to visit again. Top notch hospitality.
The host and hostess were welcoming and kind. There was everything we needed for a few days of relaxation and it's conveniently located between Clarens and Fouriesburg. Delicious between the mountains and in the evening under a clear starry sky by a barbecue fire if the weather permits. In winter, the snow-capped mountain peaks are sure to be beautiful and there are plenty of warm blankets and heaters for snuggling.
Beautiful clean house with the tastiest biscuits imaginable.
Since we didn't want to stay in the town, Clarens, itself, De Lusthof Guest Farm was just the answer for 4 tired and Covid-satisfied Johannesburgers. The Free State had a lot of rain and it was impossible to get over the low water bridge. The Caledon River was flowing strongly and we were very distressed. Our hostess kept us constantly informed of the state of the water flow matters. Her sons helped us cross the bridge by towing us through in their Landcruiser. We were pleasantly surprised with the lovely and spacious sandstone house. The view looks like a Pierneef painting. The peaceful antlers of dairy cows immediately made us feel at home. In the fridge were two cold liters of farm milk and for the first time in a very long time we drank fresh farm milk. All the cookie tins were full of home-baked biscuits and cookies. Muesli and breakfast cereal were also made available to us. One sensed the presence of a handsome hostess throughout. The next day, her husband and workers immediately worked on the farm road to prevent us from getting stuck and made it passable if we wanted to go to town. It helped a lot that we went with two Isizu vans. It takes about 15 minutes to reach the tarmac and a further 10 minutes to Clarens. The road into town never felt too long, as this part of the Free State is breathtakingly beautiful. We walked a lot with the two dogs. At first the farm animals upset them, but they really enjoyed the farm and open space. The children cycled every morning and experienced the fresh farm air with every breath. If we want to visit this part of our country again, we will definitely want to stay here and nowhere else. And it must also be for longer than just 4 nights! (At least 7).
What an awesome stay. It was really peaceful. The accommodation was clean. I used the opportunity to photograph the milky way. Unfortunately, there was no internet or cellular connection for my apps so I could plan more for night photography. But the point of getting away and relaxing worked like a treat.
Attention is paid to detail, such as fresh flowers in various rooms, delicious biscuits, farm milk and breakfast foods are provided. One feels very welcome.
Enjoyed the stay in the beautiful area and working farm. Enjoyed the fresh milk we received upon our arrival, as well as the house was very comfortable with beautiful views. Will definitely stay there again.
Our stay was a most pleasent stay on a working farm with all the necessities being provided. We also enjoyed the outside adventures on the farm. Heavy rains prevented us going to the historic caves. We will be back to see the caves.
Make sure your vehicle can handle a dirt road. The house is right next to other people's houses and there is hardly any cell phone signal. Most beautiful view and very nice hiking trails. The house is large with lots of space to hang out. The house was tidy and Anneli left us very nice biscuits, milk and porridge. We had a great time relaxing and enjoying the fresh farm air! Thank you!
See stars.
Was my second time at De Lusthof. Lovely, peaceful farm atmosphere. Clean and tidy house with complimentary farm milk and biscuits. Mobile phone reception is very poor between the mountains, but that makes it the perfect getaway!
The farmhouse with its coal stove aroused the nostalgia after simpler days. Everything was neat and in place. The farm milk delicious and the food top notch. The lack of TV was heavenly and we'd rather watch the stars and talk about things not talk in front of the TV. We were not keen to leave. Thank you, Annelie - we'll be back soon.
Accommodation was neat and clean with a lovely farm nature.
De Lusthof is the perfect getaway near Clarens. The location is unbeatable! Because it is away from the noise of the town, one finds true rest here.
The beautiful location, neat, comfortable accommodation at a very reasonable price and friendly service make us want to stay at De Lusthof again and again. Thank you very much for a pleasant week.
We really enjoyed the short visit, one day we walked up to the top of the mountain - the view was breathtaking. Workers do live near the house but it didn't bother them at all.
It's very suitable for those of us who want to escape from the city!
Cute place, will visit again.
De Lusthof Guest Farm is ideally located on a working farm, between the mountains. Everything was very nice clean and tidy. There is plenty of walking/biking space so there is no need to drive anywhere. We got fresh farm milk on our arrival, which was a pleasant surprise for the city jays. We will definitely want to go back.
We loved our stay at the farm, the accommodation is very neat, clean and comfortable. We appreciated the long walks in peaceful surroundings and beautiful views. There is very limited mobile phone signal available and responses from the owner maybe delayed as a result of this.
We really enjoyed our stay at Die Lusthof Guest Farm. The surroundings are beautiful and so peaceful. The children loved it. Really nice touch was the fresh milk, rusks, jam and a variety of cereals. Accommodation really comfortable and clean. We will be back soon.
Excellent place to relax and get away from it all. Beautiful view, wonderful hostess and animals all around you.
We had a wonderful stay! Beautiful setting and the kids loved all the farm animals. Definitely recommend it to anyone.
What a pleasant place. Far from the city noise. Nothing that bothers. Nature clean and safe. Will stay there again. Beautiful house with everything you need. Coal stove was best for the cold. Thank you very much Annelie, the place is beautiful.
Thank you for the peaceful atmosphere we were able to experience. Thank you for the fresh milk, biscuits and jam from the top shelves. Thank you also for the beautiful flowers that decorate every room as well as outside the house. You guys are great.
Beautiful house that is well equipped. If you want to relax in beautiful scenery, this is the place for you.
Ideal escape for the farm kid who is squeezed by city life.
Peaceful, perfect break away. Stunning views and beautiful cottage in a lovely area. Everything was just perfect.
On the day we arrived they called us and asked us if we wanted to check in before two. Even though we only arrived after to it was a surprise to get the call. The house sleeps (beds) 6 in two bedrooms. There is a nice braai area outside and a large table to enjoy meals under the trees. If you just want to chill De Lusthof is just the place. I wish we could have stayed at least a week.
Arrival and welcome was excellent. Lots of extra hospitality by breakfast and milk provided. The weekend and view was breathtaking and nature indescribable.
It was the most wonderful weekend ever. The view is fantastic and the place was particularly nice and clean. It immediately made an impression. I would recommend the place to anyone. I would only recommend that there be a TV available if there are guests coming, but yes, the silence was something else.
Beautiful, neat and clean cottage. Fully equipped with a view that soothes your soul. We were pleasantly spoiled with fresh farm milk. We will definitely visit this place again.
The first impressions with the workhouses right next to you make one wonder if it will be so peaceful. Apart from the children playing during the day, there was no disturbance. One must remember it remains a working farm. Definitely go back. Maybe just tell the guests ahead of time where they can and cannot walk.
Thanks for the fresh milk, delicious rusks and cereal. The people next to the guesthouse was very loud.
Most beautiful view from the house and an unbelievable beautiful area. Will definitely come back.
Nicely located between the mountains on an active farm. The milk is the best. Cell phone reception is a problem, so just make sure everything is arranged. We arrived after dark and could not locate the caretaker. But we managed later and had a nice stay. Dirt roads can be annoying if you are 'holy' on your car. Can recommend it to anyone.
A very nice farm to visit. The accommodation is very well equipped with a very nice view. The only downside is the workers who stay very close and are noisy, but the fact that you can walk on the beautiful farm makes up for it.
The house is neatly and comfortably furnished. One can truly relax here. Bethlehem is not far if you may need something.
Pleasant stay. Will stay longer next time. View is beautiful.
Very nice place! Memories we won't soon forget! Unfortunately, the farm workers make a little too much noise in the evenings. The best view and terribly neat! Auntie Annelie was very hospitable and the cookies, rusks and milk were one of the highlights! Will definitely visit again!
The house is equipped with everything you need and the nature is breathtakingly beautiful. My expectation was far exceeded. Excellent value for money.
What a great experience. We would definitely recommend it to everyone. The tranquility and the nature are fantastic. Although we spent most of our time outside during the day, inside the house is very well equipped and tidy with lots of space. The extra effort made by putting fresh milk, biscuits, jam, breakfast cereal and fresh flowers in the house makes it very special. Because there is no TV, we took a small radio with us to listen to rugby. We walked and spent a lot of time on the lawn watching the sheep.
DeLusthof had an amazing view, it is peaceful. Very good for the soul! Lovely place to stay with friendly owners and staff. I will recommend it if you want to get away from it all. Amazing hikes! We will definitely be back.
Warm welcome on arrival. It was a wonderful getaway weekend to enjoy in nature. Annelie has thought of every little detail to transform her farmhouse into something special for everyone who stays there and I could just long for my own childhood days on my parents' farm. Next time we explore the hiking trails!
The only let-down was the littering at the heritage sight, but it is not the farm owners' fault. The local residents could be asked to be a bit quieter.
See the stars.
Had a wonderful stay and experienced very friendly service.

My husband was very unhappy with the fishing that was advertised. I called to make sure there was fly fishing in the river and it was confirmed. Which is not the case then. The pools where you can usually catch them are too shallow at this time of year. A planned fly fishing weekend was a huge frustration for him. The rest of the family really enjoyed the town and surroundings.
Fantastic accommodation that can be highly recommended - beautiful scenery with comfortable accommodation!
This is an amazing place, great views and a very warm welcome. Peace and quiet and very well appointed with all one needs for a visit of rest and relaxation.
We really enjoyed the milk and the biscuit! The walk in the mountains was breathtaking and the cows are very cute! Beautiful place and beautiful surroundings. Will definitely come again!
Many thanks to Annelie for their friendly reception, as well as the delicious farm products and all the treats that awaited us in the house. It was a lovely surprise. House in beautiful surroundings with mountains around. It was wonderful to wake up to birdsong. Thanks also to Arend for delicious fresh milk and his help and his interesting story about the dairy, etc. Will definitely go there again if possible.
A lovely view, quiet, peaceful and enough time to give my soul a chance to catch up. Thank you very much for everything. The house was ready for guests with fresh cow's milk, home-baked biscuits and jam. The best was the coal stove which worked 100% and made everything nice and warm. We would love to stay here again!

The silence and beauty of nature and freedom - of being able to walk straight from the spacious and cosy cottage in all directions - gave us 8 days of bliss!
I can recommend the place. It was just one big pleasure from start to finish. The place was neat and clean. We were spoiled by the owners (Anneli and Neels) with flowers, biscuits and fresh apples, and just had a great time together and saw everything on their farm... Lovely walk and just enjoying the tranquility and the beautiful nature!
We had a very nice stay. The sheep with their lambs were too cute to watch. We were shown how the cows are milked. In the evening we played games, because there is no TV or outlet for a laptop. It is an ideal place to "bond" and rest. There was a lot of load shedding, but the house is equipped with a gas stove and braai facilities so we were still able to cook. We got delicious breakfast porridge, fresh farm milk, biscuits and jam. It was delicious. Beautiful surroundings and hiking trails.
We enjoyed it. Care from the owners is very good.
The accommodation was very neat and clean. We loved the fresh cow's milk, and the delicious rusk! The view is fantastic, and the cottage is set up for the cold weather. We will definitely stay at De Lusthof again.
Picturesque nature at a very reasonable price.
