There was a leak in the foyer, with water dripping from the ceiling for the first evening. 2. The fireplace struggled to warm the house in the unseasonably cold weather.
Very enjoyable and easy stay. A nice location and nice living setup with a lovely view. We booked the entire house and it was perfect, plenty of space and amenities. Would definitely book again!
We had a great stay! The location was perfect and the view was just breathtaking. We did stay there in August, so the grass was dry, but we would like to stay there again in the spring or summer to experience the greenery of that picture-perfect view. Clarens Xtreme is basically across the street from the accommodation, so we sat and watched the people zipline who finally convinced us to go do it too.
It was delicious and we really enjoyed it.

The house is just a step away from everything one needs. The "self-service" regarding check-in and check-out is very convenient and was well communicated to me. The rooms are spacious, with plenty of storage space, and the house is clean and tidy. I would recommend that you book the whole house, seeing that the common areas such as the kitchen, living area and porch/braai are shared by all the guests. The view is beautiful and the house is nice and cool in the summer.

If anyone goes to Clarens, try out the Minimalist House. Rooms offer everything needed and are spacious. The shared living room/kitchen/dining room also offers more than one would need!
Location very close to the square is convenient. The house has everything you need and the rooms are spacious and tidy. We appreciated the fireplace and electric blankets on the cold weekend. Kitchen door key was not available so could not put the full bin bags outside. Overall, it is very good value for money and we really enjoyed our stay there.

Although the accommodation lacked some necessary day-to-day items that would have been nice (eg. wifi, double plugs, salt and pepper, sanitary bin in bathroom), the place was clean, tidy and well-organised by the management team. Easy check-in with a lock box and good communication with the host. Would recommend to those visiting Clarens on a budget.

We had an incredibly nice stay in the beautiful house. We booked all three rooms so the whole unit/house was ours. Everything was very clean and tidy and the place has a beautiful view of the mountains. It wasn't minimalist for us, it was beautiful. I would highly recommend this place to others.

Excellent facilities with a special atmosphere and views. Walking distance from shops and restaurants. A shame that water restrictions are applied for which the owners bear no fault. Perhaps warn guests, who are not always aware of the local water situation, in advance.

I would recommend more light outside where you park as it is very dark at night.
Unfortunately the gas bottle for the main heater and stove were empty, we did advise the owners upon our return home and they immediately apologised for this. However, the service received was great.
Lots to do in Clarens, safe little town, friendly people, great restaurants within walking distance. Lots of interesting shops to walk around, very touristy. Lovely place for a weekend stay.

Very simple but had everything we needed. The "basics" were there and done right. If I can make one suggestion, it's for the owners to get a smart TV. Then residents can use their own data and accounts on DStv, YouTube, etc. tune in for sports and music.
Everything was neat and clean. Just didn't have hot water to take a shower. No lock-up parking for vehicle. But can still highly recommend.

We had a couple retreat and booked all three rooms. I cannot recommend that you book any other way, unless if you don't mind sharing space with total strangers. The kitchen and lounge are common areas. The house is clean and warm in winter. That's the best part about it. There is a wood burner, a gas heater and electric blanket in every room. The views are amazing. It is situated a walking distance from the square. Won't have to worry about finding parking. We will definitely be returning.
The communal area is spacious and neat, this is ideally to share with friends as each couple has their own room and the communal area can be shared. Very close to the square.
Cabinet repairs are needed, especially in the kitchen. A cupboard or small table will do no harm in the rooms.

Bathroom very poor. At least we slept well and if only we and our friends were there and only we could use the kitchen it would have been nice.
Beautiful views and nice, high ceilings. Warm water takes a while to arrive at the shower, so have patience. Loadshedding affected water supply to the room, but I think that is a problem in Dihlabeng municipality.
My wife wants me to mention that the garden needs attention and unfortunately someone threw rubbish in the yard. I especially like the way I was able to check in and check out.

The Minimalist House is within walking distance of the village. The accommodation is neat and clean with beautiful views of the mountains. There's a fireplace and a nice big porch for hanging out. The crockery and cutlery were too few for our group of 6, but otherwise there was no fault to be found and we had a great time.

Big house, big rooms, not far from vikels. Could do with a little table in bathroom for ladies to do their makeup. Love the floors, never thought cement floor could be so beautiful. Really enjoyed the time there, walk from there to the hiking trails about 300 m. Your road sign is not correct, you turn into Mainstr then into vdMerwe-str left and right into Roosstr second erf on the left now is big on a sign by the road. Will book there again when I go there later in the year.

We had a very nice stay. De Minimalist House was lovely and clean when we got there. The water pressure was a little weak but enough that you could still manage. We would like to stay here again if we visit Clarens again. The place is ideal for families or a group of friends for a weekend away.

I only have one suggestion and that is a heater in each room as we were in winter it was bitterly cold but the electric blankets helped a lot.

Nice view of mountains, distance from house to restaurants walking distance which is very nice. Road to house is bad, heavily corrigated. Drive away lay out of house is difficult to drive when you have a trailer.

I will not use it again, arrangements of key are insecure. Part of the kitchen is impractical, suitable for groups of people or large families, I don't want to be bothered by a stranger at 12 o'clock at night.

The house is very spacious but we had no hot water for a long time. Only when we turned on the sink taps and the shower taps at the same time did hot water come through. I know there is such a thing as an industrial type of architecture but it doesn't work for me. Seeing the floors and walls' barren cement like that is not for me.
It was so convenient to be so close (walking distance) to the shops and restaurants. We really enjoyed every moment of our stay in Clarens.

The house is beautiful, and 101% clean. It's a home away from home. The weekend was cold because it was raining but we were grateful because we had two heaters to warm the place. Our stay at De Minimalist was comfortable and clean. Quiet, even though it is just a block away from the tourist center, which was great. The only concern is that the large rooms with big glass windows were cool in late autumn and could be cold in winter. The bedding was however warm and comfortable.
This is really a lovely environment. My second visit and stay in Clarens as well as the Minimalist. Doubt if we will stay anywhere else as a group of visitors.

I would put a gas heater in every room, because the rooms is very cold. Carpets in the room will help a lot with the heater. A fireplace in the living room would give a warm welcome feeling. The braai equipment is not really furnished. The heating blanket on the right side of the bed didn't work.
Close to everything, full town walk. Forgot a power cable there and they kept it for me.
The place is as the name suggests - minimalistic. I suspect it is still being worked on. Here and there an extra table or chair will be handy. Can recommend it with the utmost confidence. The view is beautiful and everything works.

We spent two nights at de Minimalist House. We received a warm welcome from the owner - he made us feel very at home and comfortable. The Love room is spacious and comfortable with a balcony and a beautiful view over the mountain. We will be back.
The place is very centrally located, very neat, quiet and everything you need.
There are no loose carpets in the bedrooms. Especially in Clarens and the coming winter, it would be recommended. There is also only 1 bedside table? Would prefer that either side of the bed is at least a bedside table. My glass of water had to be on the ground and it's a very high bed. Would prefer that there are bedside lamps as well (it's something we have in our homes after all).
My mother and I spent a night there. Everything was very neat and clean, the view was beautiful and it is walking distance from the shops. Will definitely stay there again.

Would not recommend to anyone. The finish of the house is really tasteless and minimalistic for sure. They really spent minimum. I felt ashamed to entertain our friends there.
Beautiful house, but did not impress me as a guest house. Dull and bare. Shower wall looks like it might fall over.
