The room is neat, clean and was very good for us because we only wanted to spend the night and drive again early the next morning. It might be a little cute if you want to spend time there. We were there in early January - nice and warm. The room does not have air conditioning - and it was a bit uncomfortable.
I enjoyed the privacy and the setting of the place.
Served us very well and we had lots of space for our big crowd. It took a while to find someone to check in with, but apart from that, great.
No aircon and the fan does not work properly. Mosquitoes are terrible. Very uncomfortable stay. The fan's front part fell off and in the dark cut my finger.
Great location and has all you need. We stayed in the Secret Garden, which is a lovely private space to braai and sit for morning coffee.

Peaceful accommodation in a peaceful, scenic setting, surrounded by vineyards and clean air, and a swimming pool to cool off. The temperature was 35 degrees for 3 days. The host/hostess was friendly and helpful.
Mark and Elmarie made us feel so at home. We can't wait to stay there again. It was like visiting "family" but with your privacy respected.

I love the place, nice and quiet, safe, and in a good location.
Both my boys are at varsity in the Western Cape and it was great to find this home away from home where we could spend quality time together. This will definitely be our home base when we plan on visiting them again. The staff were very helpful in assisting us to get us settled and making sure we were comfortable.

Friendly host! The secret garden was ready, neat and easy to settle in. The privacy of the unit was highly appreciated. All basic necessities are in the unit. Then the host, Elmarie, recommended Val De Vine, an awesome venue for a good meal, a great setting, in very close proximity, and quality friendly service. Every reason to return at some point.

Downside, walls a little thin as I could hear the gentleman next door. The same people next door were very loud till past midnight although it's stipulated to respect other guests.
I like the character of the place with the classic furniture, spacious areas (except the "stable" rooms), and the location suits me perfectly (must get to Technopark).
Would have liked to stay longer but, will definitely visit with family and stay over.

I had a short stay with my bestie as we were traveling to explore Stellenbosch. De Oude Schuur was satisfactory as we needed very little. However, we did have a few snags. There was an indication of scented plastic baggies for feminine products to be disposed of but it was not in the room (one of us coincidentally needed it). We were staying in the Stable Room, and although there is a nice little outside seating area and trees, in the back the room it was quite dark and poorly lit if we did not switch on the lights. Also had a trip with electricity before loadshedding. All is understandable due to our use of the provided two-plate stove that was faulty in the end. Liberty however came to the rescue more than once to reassure us and help us put on the backup light during loadshedding. Great service with him and would be the reason I would go back. Overall satisfactory and close range to a mall for all your needs. About a 5 min drive. Thank you for having us.
If you're not too fussy about little things, it's a good place to sleep over.
Felt very dark and dingy with there only being one source of light which is the sliding door as you enter the unit. When you are in the room in the back, you need to switch on the lights to see. It also gives the place an old smell like you are in an antique store. The place was not cleaned on time of our arrival, we had to wait and even after that, it was still not up to scratch. There were still rusk crumbs on the dining table from the previous guests. There was no welcoming from the owners whatsoever, you never see them with an eye. When we had an issue, we had to go looking for them to have it sorted. They were not very interested in sorting out the issue, and we had to call an agent to get it sorted. Wifi is an issue, especially when loadshedding switches on and off, we didn’t have wifi for up to 45 min at a time when they switch over. The pool was also never set up with pillows and opened gazebo/umbrellas as promised by the grounds caretaker, the pool was also not super clean (we sat there every morning and afternoon, never did we see a cleaned pool). Safe to say we will not be booking accommodation here again.
Not as clean as desired.
I thought it was on a farm, but it's not. Place has only 2 rooms, each with a double bed and other 4 beds are in living area. Only 1 bathroom and have to go through bathroom to only toilet. Antique style, shabby floors and ceilings.
When we checked in, our reservation was not on the host's schedule. She said that websites take a week to confirm and deposit and that's the reason she didn't have us in for the day. We then go to the garden house and the keys are given to us with the gate code verbally. It doesn't look decent inside and not new at all. The curtains don't even close the window and door. In the evening everyone could see inside. Our towel had dirty marks on it. When there was loadshedding, there wasn't even water through the toilet (wasn't mentioned to us). It was not pleasant at all for the amount paid for the evening.
The reception was not cordial. I had to call to get the hostess's attention as I couldn't find a bell at the gate. The whole area is unclean. The photos are not at all the true version of what it actually looks like. Gardens are not neat either. I would not recommend the place at all. Feeling unsafe, I got into my car and checked into a hotel.
Beautiful garden cottage with character! Interior decoration so beautiful and interesting, old and modern combined! Would definitely stay there again! Only recommendation: replace shower curtain with glass door.
We needed a place to stay overnight to be in Stellenbosch early the next morning. De Oude Schuur was welcoming, the hosts made sure our rooms were all warm when we arrived and we slept so well. All the amenities are impeccable, the design is interesting and still feels like home. Will definitely recommend.

My favourite is the Tree Cottage, however, the Beloved unit has also become a favourite. Great location and value for money.

We arrived and were met by the host and shown to our room. We were shown all that was to offer and also shown the pool that we could use. Nice facilities, big kitchen, but a little warm in the room. Luckily we were supplied with fans which was great.

Nicely furnished, but when you stay, you find the sink is hopelessly too small to wash dishes and there is no window in the room - just the sliding door without bars. Quite distressing at night.
Neat accommodation, spacious main room, there is everything needed. Friendly and hospitable owners.
If the power goes out, there is no water. Extremely poor that there is no light. 3 times without water afternoon, evening and morning.
No one was available to welcome us. A general worker showed us to the accommodation. The room had an unpleasant smell. No crockery or utensils, the pool was not available for use as the owners was using it with their visitors and we had to ask for the braai facilities. In the cupboard was dirt pillows if we needed extras. I was disappointed as I did not get what I saw in the pictures.
The unit needs attention with maintenance. Showering is very uncomfortable with only a plastic material "door" onto which the shower head sprays directly. The site is full of old dilapidated items that do not create a nice atmosphere. There was a braai, but it was rusty and in a battered condition. Fortunately, we didn't have to use it.
Clean, neat. Master bedroom's bed is a winner! Single bed separate from room is suitable for a child or solo traveller. Tea facilities were provided and the biscuits were a nice treat!
Ended up seeing a stand-up comedy at the restaurant right next door, great people and a great evening.

Only issue we had was, we arrived at 6:00 Saturday evening and it was rather chilly, we then realised there was only 1 blanket which was used for the sleeper couch. We asked a guy who seemed to stay there and he called what I think was a security guy who didn't really understand what we were needing.
Reception was very impersonal, the man who received us was friendly and helpful upon our arrival but was also the last we saw of him or any of the people there.
Couldn't get the TV to work at all. The remote control does not have batteries.
No reception, no customer service or hospitality. The photos do not reflect reality. All the units sit in front of a scrapyard, with pieces of waste and laundry in your face. The Stable was not clean. Old, stained carpet in the sleeping area, the bedding was old and laundered. The shower was good and effective.

We had a wedding and a birthday (the groom) on Saturday. The photographer and make up artist was there and so was family that wanted to take pics before we left to the venue. De Oude Schuur did not complain once and even left the gate open for us. We came back late from the venue. Staff was helpful. Loved the calm and peaceful environment.

The caretaker was very friendly and helpful, but the owner only let us know about her to falsely accuse us of driving before we paid. I was disappointed - the toilet was clogged, the bedding had holes in it, and the couch and recliners felt like they were salvaged from a sidewalk.
The Studio where we stayed is very neat. Bedding and kitchenware very clean. We were very kindly welcomed upon arrival. Environment is very peaceful and safe; will definitely stay there again.

Very well located in the Stellenbosch area. The accommodation is well-equipped. We rented three of the cottages and it was possible to cook back and forth.
It is a nice, quiet escape from the hustle and bustle. Just not much to see or do on the premises. There was a mix up with our rooms and others were booked in my room, not much apology or any courtesy offered for the wait. That was disappointing.
No cleaning of room, no clean towels the next day, only coffee and milk for one day. Sorry, but for what one pays you expect your place to be cleaned the next morning, clean towels and at least coffee for the next morning.
Unfortunately we got there in the evening and it was very difficult to see the entrance. A light by the nameplate is definitely recommended. There is no reception sign and there was no answer to the contact number. None of the photos on the web page show that the wooden walls/partitions of the bathroom do not go up to the roof. The shower's glass door only comes three quarters of the way so the water runs out onto the floor. The bathroom door also only closes a little more than halfway. It really looks like the place inside is just flanged together with some wooden dividers. The electric blanket was the only highlight.
