Spacious house that is very neat and clean. The house is very well equipped for a week's visit. The location is indescribably beautiful with the view of the Swartberge.
Enjoyed walks in the veld. As it was cold we spent the evening around the wood stove, cooking our dinner and chatting.
This self-catering house is lovely. With 3 rooms, 8 people can hang out very comfortably together, 4 share 1 family room. The stoep calls for nice long walks around the long table and with a view of the Swartberge so close, you don't want to do anything else. Air-conditioning in every room keeps the summer heat away. This place is ideal for friends and family to visit together, even winter can come, the indoor braai/fireplace will make the cold disappear. Everything you could need is provided.
Uiehuis is centrally located if you want to see the sights around Matjiesrivier. The view from the porch is beautiful and the surroundings are very peaceful. I will visit again if I can.
Pristine accommodation. Very safe with easy access. Tar road all the way from Oudtshoorn. From Calitzdorp you will have to travel on about 30km of gravel, but it is very scenic and worth the drive. No Wi-Fi and bad MTN reception. No TV, hooray! There is a coal stove in the lounge/dining area, which doesn't show in the photos. The hostess is very friendly. Even offered us a free night just because the gas ran out and we had to wait about 2 hours for a refill. The location, although almost perfect, is unfortunately on the wrong side of the road. So, in your view, there is a road, some trees which block the view and several electric lines. A pity. So to see the view shown in the photos you have to stand against the fence. I would also recommend that the owners supply a wire brush for the braai grid. The kitchen pans, frying pan and 2 burner gas stove are a bit tired. Still a worthwhile 5-star visit.
Big reception area, fireplace, well-heated and big Magneto lights for loadshedding. More than enough space for all.
Very neat accommodation, nice and spacious and well equipped, I would recommend it for a nice rest, and excellent if you want to explore the surroundings and Swartberg Pass on your mountain bike.
De Uiehuis was such a beautiful place to switch off and relax. The view of the Swartberg mountains in front of us, surrounded by farms, what a perfect location. The house itself was big and spacious, can sleep 8 adults very comfortably. The aircon was a bonus from the warm evenings and the house was more than well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay.
The house is clean, spacious and well equipped. The hostess lives just around the corner and is very helpful. Lovely bedrooms and modern bathrooms. Breathtaking view of the Swartberg from the front porch. It's a house for fun. The accommodation offers good value for money.

Words can not describe the beauty of the scenery. The owners made us feel at home the moment we stopped there. The house is set up beautifully! I felt right at home. Being back home after the visit is just so depressing. Am contemplating packing up and moving! Thank you for an awesome stay!
De Uiehuis is amazing!
I was extremely impressed with the particular cleanliness of the accommodation. We were on a cycling tour in the Southern Cape and the location of the Onion House was excellent for us because we would be riding over the Swartberg Pass in the morning after our stay. I can think of few places (if any) that would be better for our group.
We like places offering tranquility far from the city's hustle and bustle. De Uiehuis is located at the foot of Swartberg on a beautiful farm. We had our own piece of farm. Very beautifully artfully and comfortably furnished and exactly what we needed. A nice wood stove kept us warm in the sudden cold that hit us. Brita was very helpful.
The house is located on a working farm, next to a quiet asphalt road with incredible views of the Black Mountains. The beds and bedding are of a very high quality and the layout worked perfectly for our family. One of the rooms contains a double bed and a king size bed which was great for accommodating us and our two small children in one space. We could have a great barbecue on the large lawn, play, look at the stars and chat until late in the evening. The Buffelspoort dirt road to the farm is recommended for the incredible natural wonders and rock formations.
