The cottage can accommodate 2 to 3 guests and contains 1 bedroom with a queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom with a shower, an open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen space, an outdoor breakfast courtyard, and a private terrace. There is a day bed in the lounge.
The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is no oven but guests have exclusive use of an art studio with a pizza and bread-baking oven inside. Due to its positioning on the extensive farmstead, the cottage is wonderfully cool in summer and for winter boasts a gorgeous fireplace to warm up the space. Best enjoyed with red wine from one of the local wineries.
The cottage has been renovated to retain all of its original features. The roughly plastered and lime-washed walls create a delicate and interesting backdrop. The reed ceilings and the hand-cut poplar rafters with antique light fittings are a reminder of the Karoo building methods and styles. The interior decor is simple, rustic, and luxurious, with Belgian linen, French ticking, and farm antiques collected from all over the world.
The terrace features a built-in braai, a sun lounger, dining space, and a plunge pool. The views from this terrace sweep across the peach and apricot orchards below over the valley to the Swartberg mountain range and the most spectacular sunsets.
Bring your bikes or hiking boots as the trails and scenery are spectacular.

9 guests' feedbackHighly recommend. We arrived late afternoon and were warmly greeted by Zelma and Fifi. The hot tub was already warm, and we spent most of our winter evening outside in the tub, drinking wine and enjoying the serene Calitzdorp views. The decor is beautiful, and the filter coffee and plunger was a happy surprise.
We really enjoyed the farm feel in De Waenhuis and made a lovely fire every evening. Everything is so well appointed and stylish.
Very nicely furnished and everything you need. Private, quiet, perfect for a romantic stay. The perfect hostess.
Welma is an excellent hostess. Our dogs really enjoyed it. We were able to relax and breathe in the tranquility while the fire burned and we floated in the pool.
The place is breathtaking and Zelma is the best hostess.
Fantastic cottage nestled 2 km's from Calitzdorp. Zelda is an incredible host and the hot tub with a good glass of red is a winning combination.
My dog and I had a really nice stay in Zelma's cottage. The cottage has all the necessary items. The location is perfect with unlimited views from the patio over the farms. We enjoyed walking through the orchards.
Zelma is an incredible hostess, even booked us a table at Die Dorpshuis. Luxurious linen is always a winner and kitchen very well stocked with the most delicious freshly ground coffee.
We had a lovely stay at De Waenhuis. Zelma is a friendly and extremely helpful hostess. It was a shame that so few places to eat are open on a Tuesday and Wednesday in Calitzdorp, which is understandable. Fortunately, we were able to buy good food at the Spar and at Giovannis Pizzeria, on Zelma's recommendation.
