84 guests' feedbackWe really enjoyed the privacy of the bungalow and had a great time hanging out on the porch and slept well. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
That was a very nice place, I will definitely going to visit again.
Accommodation is clean and looks great, wouldn't stay longer than 1 or 2 nights as there isn't much to do on the property. If you are looking to stay longer and want to do stuff then would have to venture out of the property for hikes.
Units are clean with all the amenities for a comfortable stay. There are many small birds. It is close to Dinokeng. There is room to walk around for about 30 minutes with wildlife. Reception for Vodacom is not very good.
We held a bachelorette party at the venue under the Lapa area. We used the pizza oven with 12 guests that attended. We had a comfortable stay and had a great time. Neo and the team were very accommodating and catered to all our needs. Will definitely go back.
We enjoyed every second of our vacation, everything was on point and we are planning on coming back with friends.
Perfect place to get quiet.
It's already our second time. Would just like to recommend that they don't turn off the pump unnecessarily.
We stayed at Deruxa Cottages as a group of 14 ladies for a hen party this weekend. The place was very clean and tidy but you can see it is getting old. The staff were very friendly and helpful and communicated with us very well. It is the ideal place for such a large group and party. One as a group alone there without anyone bothering.
The place has a huge potential for outdoor activities, like horse riding, animal tours and quad biking. Provide shaded parking areas for the cars. Network coverage is an issue and so is the provision of free WiFi.
The staff were friendly, but we didn't really see or hear much of them. They greeted me on arrival and the security guard/ground worker was very friendly and helpful.
Cottage looks like on photo - one bedroom and open plan. Nice outdoor patio with barbecue (not used) and gas stove. Kudu and roe deer and wildebeest on the plot.
The road is almost impassable with a deep pool of water through which one is obliged to drive because there is no detour. We felt unsafe as there are no proper fences, although a guard seems to be patrolling. The unit itself was not dusted, with cobwebs everywhere. The bedding was dirty and the geyser was not working properly. We were dependent on cold water. We were very disappointed and wanted to go back home the first night. We then cleaned up ourselves and tried to make the best of a bad situation. The only plus point was that the lady was helpful in giving the directions. We feel that we had to pay too much for a place that was not up to standard.
We rested and visited very well. The rooms were nice and clean and well appointed. The braai area and swimming pool were also lovely to use. People were very friendly. We will be sure to visit again!
The family bungalow offers everything to spend a great getaway with friends or family. But the highlights definitely are the braai area, the swimming pool and the pool area. The kitchen is well equipped and the bedrooms are spacious and clean.
Network connectivity is generally poor in the area, one has to make sure to inform establishment prior to arrival. Entire stay was great and safe, especially because they have night guard patrol.
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting downtown. We also had a lovely romance setup on the bush and it was awesomely.
Bliss, sure!
I need to advice that pest control should be used because we were tormented by a rat and a checkho inside the house.
Very neat and beautiful, but small site and few facilities. It falls outside the Dinokeng Game Reserve and has to drive about 20 km to Dinokeng Reserve, Nyati Gate and a further 5 km to Self Drive Route, to see big game. Deruxa has some redbucks, blue wildebeests and ostriches that welcomed us on our arrival.
Neat, very spacious house. Most of the facilities and equipment you need.
Deruxa Cottages is perfect for a family getaway. There's lots of space and the environment is tranquil - the perfect break from the city. The kitchen utensils could be improved slightly, but aside from that, we had the perfect night away!
Neat and clean!
Awesome service received from the host and staff members during the stay.
We waited for one hour before someone opened the gate for us, then upon getting to the cottage we were handed the key with no further information. We had to call the staff back to ask for an extra bed for our child and how the gas geyser worked, as well as other 'housekeeping' items. The kitchen was usable, but not fully stocked with the necessary utensils needed. The bed was comfortable and the view spectacular. A place to go if you are looking for rustic peace and quiet.
Would recommend that they have a small shop on site just for wood and ice. If you know customers start checking in at 2 o'clock, don't come and unlock the gate until 20 past 2, especially if there is loadshedding and you can't get hold of anyone. Drag more roads on the farm so that the game drive can last longer than 5 minutes. Get steak knives, braai bowls and braai tongs that are not broken as well as a cutting board in the rooms. Cleaning products are also scarce, we received 1 cloth. Sorted out the geyser at the Stable Cottage, because the water was cold all the time. You are warned that security is constantly driving around with his bike, you are scared to death if he suddenly just passes by. Offer room service. A little more attention to the smaller details. Change the description of rooms on the website, the employees on the farm only know the names of the rooms (Eland, Impala, Stable, etc.). If you know you will have guests, please make sure the pool is blue and not green. But otherwise very nice venue for a "batcholers party" - not currently suitable for family or family gatherings. For what we received we would have paid R350 per night per head in other places.
There had been no hot water, with the power being out, there is no generator available. There are too few glasses for the amount of people staying there. The equipment, microwave, does not work.
After heavy rain there was no electricity. They have no generator for such a thing which means we couldn't prepare any food. Not even making a cup of coffee.
No backup for the power that is down. No hot water. There is a 4 star certificate on wall but it is far from it. Really nice bungalows, just not clean. The gowns have stains on them, the shower is dirty, aircon leaks. No bins at the pool and braai area and there were drink cans everywhere. The parking for vehicles has no shelter. Dusty room. No signal.
The place was really extremely dirty and old (bedding broken, couches broken). The knife and fork drawers were so dirty inside that we didn't even eat there the second night. It was really creepy. Everything around the place is neglected. Grass against the house was not cut, the braai area was very untidy. There is a gas geyser in the bathroom with no exhaust pipes to the outside (this is illegal), if you turn on the taps you only smell gas the whole time - you can die from those gases. I showered in an ice cold shower on Saturday morning and filled half the bath on Saturday night and when I felt it the water was ice cold. Power went out Friday night 6 - 9 - there was no solar light/candle or anything in the unit - it was pitch dark. I then had to call the maid after 30 min so she could bring us a light so we could just finish our food. Self-catering without any washing-up facilities with hot water? How does it work - you can't wash dishes at all - there is an outside sink with no hot water? Don't know how the maid washed the dishes? Assume the cold water in the outside sink - I think that's the reason the cutlery and crockery in the unit were very dirty. Oh no man, I'm bitterly disappointed. We actually wanted to drive back on Saturday morning, but then I told my husband we paid a lot of money - we can't just drive. Very dirty sheets with stains everywhere - this really was one of the worst stay experiences for us in a long time. Filthy and messy dirty with an open ash hole - broken chair, rubbish lying everywhere and plants and bushes overgrowing everything. If they advertise the place for R200 a night I will say yes - but R950 a night is really a lot of money and then people expect a place that is clean and tidy. It was really disgusting!
First, we waited 40 minutes for the owner to open the gate for us. It is advertised as "in Dinokeng" which is totally untrue. This is located 40 minutes, or 20 km, outside Dinokeng. The unit itself was reasonably clean, but the bathroom mats looked like they hadn't been washed in 10 years. There were also not enough cutlery. The braai facilities were never cleaned and an old, rotten mop welcomed us there. It was quite an eyesore. Deruxa Cottages also needs repairs and basic maintenance on the units as a whole. It will-will fall apart. The photos are extremely misleading. Really disappointed. Do not recommend this accommodation to anyone.
Staff from the Deruxa are so welcoming and friendly, thank you very much.
The people that work there are so friendly and helpful. The place was so clean and neat. It was so nice to fall asleep and wake up with the sounds of nature around you and no sounds of city life. The place has a very rustic feel, but the bathrooms were modern, which is a very good combination according to us. It was the best place to just get away for a night. Thank you very much.
Service was good, place was neat, we had a great time staying and visiting.
It is a great place to get away from the hectic life. It is very peaceful and quiet. Nice place to get away with my husband. We will definitely visit again.
Caretakers we so helpful responded quickly to our requests.
Very good place to be for a weekend! Lovely house.
We really enjoyed our stay. We made use of the braai, swimming pool and kitchen facilities and they were all excellent.
The unit was clean and tidy. Nice to see the animals from your little house.
Will definitely come again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.
Was lovely to get away. Wasn't very far from the West Rand of JHB. The property could do with a little TLC - small things to be fixed. But overall is was a nice stay.
Will visit again with friends. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area looking for clean, secluded accommodation.
Lighting outside was very poor and noticed that there were lights but that didn't work, the moon didn't shine over the weekend either so we had to use cell phone lights. Basic necessities such as candles, dish washing sponge, ashtrays, a braai tong, shovel, decent knives, dustbin with a lid and even extra black bag etc. Believe I can make a contribution to an excellent self-care unit.
We really enjoyed the wildlife that moves around between the houses.
Really enjoyed the silence in the bush. The bathtub was a major plus.
The accommodation was comfortable. However, the lack of crockery, cutlery and glassware was frustrating which could easily be resolved if the staff have an inventory of what is required for two people sharing. I do not consider sharing to mean one mug, one teaspoon, one champagne glass. Also advertised as a romantic getaway, pity there were no wine glasses to enjoy a glass of wine nor any side plates or a bowl to make a salad, not that there was a knife you could use to make a salad. Fortunately, I always bring my own wine glass and sharp knife from previous experiences. I did request a bowl, side plate and a plate to put our braai meat on and it was supplied. On the plus side, having the wildebeest and ostrich stroll past every day was a privilege, the bed was comfortable and the security that patrolled at night was comforting.
The ad is very misleading for what you get. But it's a nice getaway if you just want to relax.
The signage indicating it is a bit worn and needs to be clearer, drove past the signage twice before I actually phoned the number on the booking form as the number on the board was non-existent. On arrival we found the geyser in our units tripped the power, the staff moved us to another unit within minutes.
The fact that the place is not in Dinokeng but is advertised as such was a big disappointment, they will also need to explain the types of accommodation better. Furthermore, the accommodation was very neat and very nice, the water pressure had indeed been a very big problem, with two of the rooms with almost nothing and one with absolutely nothing. The workers and security were fantastic, the people went out of their way for us with any request. Suggestions, let them know there is ice available, sell normal wood as well as bundles for people who like to sit around a forest fire. Think the place has so much more potential. But that said we had a good time, but we are easygoing people, don't think everyone is going to feel that way.
We did struggle a bit with the hot water, thought it was the gas and gas was switched but still had the same problem.
It was lovely to be there and the place was nice and clean. Grateful for the unit which was a bit remote and close enough to walk to the pool. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Recommendation for the outdoor shower: Build a half-body shelter so that one can still enjoy nature, but not completely shower in the open. Recommendation for the entrance: Please update. the board with the latest contact number, as well as we were quite unsure about who we were meeting and how to get into the farm (more clarity with the directions would be appreciated). Thank you very much Deruxa, you will see us again!
They must please pay attention to the oven. And then the two beds in the living area had no ceiling fans at all and the mosquitoes were terribly bad. Two of the girls did not sleep at all because it. The one door also struggled to open and close and the light in the kitchen trips the power.
Very good getaway if you want to get out of the city. Lights needs attention, no light outside the stable cottage. T kitchen equipment needs attention. The gas geyser in the stable unit needs attention. Other than that, a very good experience.
Had a great time. Wildlife is peaceful but can be replenished. Can put up a proper roof at "stable" and more lights at braai area. Or it also sits on the porch for days when it rains. Seeing that it is secluded maybe Jacuzzi or small pool with steps. Not like big pool that doesn't have steps.
Beautiful place. I can really recommend it, but we only realized with disappointment when we arrived that it was 40 km from Dinokeng. On the website it falls under the search "accommodation in Dinokeng". Maybe something that can be stated more clearly in the description.
We stayed in the Stable and it was private and peaceful.
Very cute. Relax with the natural beauty on your doorstep. Here and there there are repairs that can be done.
Billed as 4 star accommodation, but in need of lots of maintenance. Shortage of kitchen cutlery. Beds were comfortable. Space was clean. Furniture shabby. Staff were friendly. Our boys enjoyed running around in the open spaces and loved the ostriches. We left early, but didn't regret going.
It looks like there was a time when it was a nice place, but now it just looks neglected. Nothing seems to be replaced or fixed, and it's small things that bother (eg shower that doesn't drain, dishwasher that is there - but doesn't work, oven glass that is broken and the list goes on). We still had a good time (perhaps because we had good company). The wildebeest and animals walking around were nice to see.
The cottage is cold, but it has a fireplace so just bring your own wood. You can buy wood there for R20 a bag. The heater in the room is not working. There had also been no hot water in the morning.
We were a group of 9 adults and 4 children and booked the farmhouse and two of the cottages. The farmhouse is very spacious and well equipped (the kitchen is a bit sparsely equipped) and everything was clean and tidy. We had a lovely, peaceful time and there is enough space that no one is under anyone else's feet. The staff were friendly and very helpful and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We even saw a few goats. It's close enough out of the city for a quick getaway but also far enough that you feel like you're away from the city's noise. We have already decided to go for longer next year.
We arranged my daughter's 21st at Deruxa. Everything was set up so nicely and the places to visit and accommodation are very comfortable. Will definitely arrange group visits with them again.
Deruxa is a clean place and it has privacy. It was nice being at Deruxa Cottages. We hope to come back soon.
It was a pleasant stay with very quiet surroundings. The wildlife walking around and the views were optimal for relaxation. The house was spotless and additionally cleaned daily. The kitchen was somewhat under-equipped with cutlery. Signal was also a problem but is excellent if you want to completely switch off. Rooms are all spacious and a bonus is having sufficient bathrooms for all guests. Large common areas served well for everyone to be able to 'kuier' together. Overall it was a great stay and was well enjoyed by all.
Nice modern chalets in the beautiful bush. Clean and well maintained. Beautiful game animals moving in a safe and secure environment. Peaceful and quiet place to relax with nature.
Was also glad it wasn't overcrowded. A suggestion is to perhaps bring horses in for rides.
Nice, peaceful, clean and good value for money.
We had a wonderful stay. The hospitality was great. The place is a breath of fresh air.
Detail missing. No tea or milk. No glasses. The little things in life make it 100%. Currently we will give 95 %.
We booked the Farm House and one Executive Cottage for one night over the weekend. On arrival a lady showed us around and unlocked everything for us. The Farm House was not as clean as we wanted it to be and some of the guests complained about insects in the bedding and garbage in the bathrooms. It was also clear that there had not been a quick sweep or wash prior to our arrival, because there were leaves and small piles of dirt lying around right over the house. The dishwasher is also out of order so we washed the dishes ourselves before we drove. Despite the cleanliness and the insects, it remains a well-located and affordable getaway spot. It's just a shame that the photos on their website don't quite match what you get when you get there.
Lovely place ,clean and neat.
Nice, neat farmhouse for large group of people. All that is needed for an evening or two. Just think they should look a little more at their kitchen facilities, after we checked in, we first had to ask the lady on duty on the premises for glasses, bowls etc. Think they should be better informed and ensure that the number of crockery etc. what is needed for a group of people must be available, so that one does not need to ask for anything. Pots do not have lids, etc. But other than that it was very neat and clean and the person on duty Lerato made sure everything was tidy. Small things that we definitely just have to look at that are needed in and around the house. E.g. some of the windows didn't even have curtains or blinds. Strange.
It is advertised for business travel, but there is no internet reception. Telephone calls were intermittent. The farmhouse is very spacious, but carpets were very dirty and the bathrooms need attention. Kitchen is very poorly equipped. There was no kitchen knives, salad bowls or any plastic containers. Supporting staff was great with Lerato and John assisting where possible.
Nothing much it was just a disappointment. Not what I expected.
Some electrical appliances and some lights were not working, as well as some doors.
We really enjoyed Deruxa Cottages, the house was very neat and clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the woodland silence was wonderful.
We had a great weekend! Awesome place for large groups! Staff were amazing! Kitchen cupboards were a but dirty and stove was a bit dirty. Kitchen does not have enough crockery and cutlery but overall a good stay!
The GPS location that you get from Google is not right and confused us quite a bit. But if you drive another 3 km there are clear signs indicating where you should turn. Arriving at the venue, the gates are not very welcoming. But the venue itself is really nice, the lapa area is ideal for birthdays with a fully equipped kitchen. The staff really helped us very well. We were just ladies and felt very safe with the security guard passing by all the time.
