92 guests' feedbackWe had a great time. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything is nice and clean.
Everything was excellent, from Erika making contact before arrival to us departing the following morning. The room with its en-suite shower, excellent bed and linen, and our vegetarian supper exceeded our expectations. A definite overnight stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg.

We got to the place, had an option to upgrade, which we did. The rooms were so gorgeous, had a private garden with an incredible view. The pictures don't do justice to the place. It is an absolute gem.
The farm is beautiful and we really enjoyed the tranquility. The room was very nice and comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were delicious. The staff is friendly and punctual.
Most enjoyable working farm overnight experience.
Warm welcome, lovely stay and relaxing time. Food was great and view was peaceful.
Very nice and beautiful place. Was very satisfied with stay.
Very nice stay. Nice farm atmosphere, neat and good service.
Such a beautiful guest house, comfortable and relaxing atmosphere with friendly staff.
The chalet we stayed in was great. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and everyone was very hospitable. I would recommend Desert Dew Guesthouse to anyone.
Will definitely consider as a mountain bike destination.
Pleasant friendly staff with the best food possible. Room and bathroom were 10 out of 10, thank you very much.
We were very impressed with the guest house. Neat, clean and great service. They deserve more than 5 stars.
Very nice place in the Karoo. Beautiful view, good service and delicious food.
1. Awesome location. 2. Friendly hosts. 3. Would recommend to others and consider again.
What a wonderful experience to be warmly welcomed after a long day on the road and to be able to rest in a nice, neat and clean place to sleep. We will definitely come again. Thank you very much.
A lovely calm farm stay with place to walk. The main road to the farm made for a great run. The chalet was large and had comfortable beds. The gas shower was tricky to use (when only hot, it was too hot and using cold water made the temperature cycle). The restaurant was such a winner, great food at very good prices, we would return just for the lamb pot! We got timeous information about the best route to take given current road conditions. Slightly off the N1 but makes it worth staying 2 nights to relax like we did.
Desert Dew Guest House is a nice and cozy place to stay between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The room is beautiful and there is everything you need. I would definitely stay there again. Thank you very much.
Neat and clean accommodation, delicious dinner enjoyed. Very friendly staff. Pleasant first experience of Desert Dew.
Rooms are very well equipped with good quality linen and everything you might need. Their meals are also delicious and definitely worth it.
It's a very cute place and the owners received us very hospitable and friendly. However, we feel they could pay a little more attention to maintenance. The one room light was out of order and when we mentioned it they gave us a battery light for the night. The toilet leaked so badly that the lady who had to use the toilet during the night was soaking wet. However, it must have been an old leak because a towel had been thrown to catch the water. When we wanted to make coffee for ourselves before we started the long road again, the gas stove didn't work either.
Friendly staff and good food.
The soup starter was served without soup spoons. We wanted to have a quick cup of coffee on Monday morning (before we left), but the kettle was so dirty inside that we preferred not to. It looked like sour milk left inside the kettle.
Very nice, good service, good food.
Thank you very much.
I so wish we could have stayed here longer than a single night! It is spotless, well-maintained and set in beautiful surroundings. The room we stayed in was large and had a fantastic view (perhaps just needs some black-out curtains). The food was very good and the service from the owners and staff is top-notch. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and hope to do so for a lot longer!
Beautiful neat place, very quiet and good dirt road to get there. Will stay there again.
Will book again and recommend. Terribly beautiful setting. Henk is very hospitable and friendly, his food is top notch. His helpers are beautiful, helpful and very cute.
Peaceful and quiet environment. Image clean area. Friendly and pleasant service.
The overnight facilities on this Karoo farm were particularly good. Neat room and bathroom, peaceful environment, hospitality, helpfulness, delicious breakfast and conviviality made it a wonderful travel experience.
Apart from the dirt road which had some challenges (If you travel with a low vehicle) the accommodation was clean and tidy. Will definitely use Desert Dew again in the future.
Expected gravel road after the rain, if clear easy drive to the Guesthouse.
Apart from the distance from the main road in the evening it was one of the best and most comfortable guesthouses I have slept in for a long time.
See stars.
Peaceful place, amazing food.
Getting away from traffic and being surrounded by silence is soul food. Very friendly and pleasant to also experience how the goats are handled and shaved.
The dinner and breakfast were delicious and tasty. The accommodation is top notch. Interesting homestead and outbuildings with a lovely garden.
We had a lovely dinner and breakfast. Definitely worth it. Staff were very friendly and received us warmly.
Beautiful place and can recommend it for rest. Good food and drinks available to buy for a nice relaxation and to hit the road again from there.
Clean, safe, convenient. However, we were disappointed in the unfriendly way in which our four-legged two yorkies were received. We asked in advance if our dogs were welcome and were told it was OK. After the booking was confirmed and paid for, we received a message on the way there in the morning that there were two pit bulls on the premises and we had to please. make sure our dogs (our children) stay on their leashes. Mind you, I love Pitties so that's not the problem. When we arrived (it was already dark) we firstly didn't know exactly where to go. We were not received very kindly. We then received a form to sign about the dog "rules" and disclaimer. The way everything stood on it felt that our dogs were actually not welcome. It was made very clear that no barking would be tolerated. Also that they will not accept responsibility if their Pitbulls bite my dogs. I wanted to know if the Pitties roam freely or if they are confined to another part of the yard. They were said to be on the loose. The fact remains, it's a beast (again, nothing against Pitties on my part). I was disappointed in the response when I pointed out that it is unacceptable to advertise that it is "pet friendly", but I feel uncomfortable and wary even walking my dogs outside on their leashes. The next morning the Pitties were right outside our unit and we couldn't dare to go outside for more than 45 minutes because our dogs heard and smelled them. We were waiting for someone to come and address us about the barking of our dogs (about the Pitties outside). We didn't even get a chance for breakfast after the experience. I feel the animal friendly is misleading. The way everything could be conveyed, even the word choices on the form we had to draw is inappropriate. For people without animals, the place is perfect.
Only the 15km dirt road was not pleasant and we had to walk past the living area to use the bathroom. Even though it was exclusive to us I would have preferred to have been able to have an en suite. Rest was good value and staff were very helpful and friendly.
We appreciated and enjoyed the hospitality and everything was in place. The dinner served was well prepared and the breakfast sufficient for the journey ahead. The room had everything for a good night's rest and we could continue our journey the next morning refreshed.
It might help if a prospective visitor is advised that the dirt road to the guest house is not everywhere in good condition. I wanted to turn back at some point if it wasn't that the accommodation was already paid. But Erika's kindness and hospitality made up for it.

Very nice guest farm. We enjoyed the overnight stay not to mention the food. That appetizer was a hit. Your staff is so friendly and took such good care of our children. We had a nice time with Henk. We will definitely visit again!
We enjoyed the dinner and a nice environment to sit and relax after a long trip.
Place is super-good. The owners and staff super-friendly.
From our arrival to our departure was just simply delightful. The food was top notch. We were received very kindly. The silence of the Karoo is so beautiful. We will definitely stay at Desert Dew again.
The name Desert Dew describes the guesthouse perfectly. It is an oasis in the hot Karoo. We had a great time and ate and would definitely give 6 stars if I could!
Desert Dew is an overnight stop on the way to the Cape, very neat and comfortable. Food is delicious. Highly recommendable.
We really enjoyed the visit at the guest house.
Only downside but not the fault of the hosts, was the road to the farm. Recent rains made it difficult for a non 4 wheeled drive car.
We loved our stay at Derest Dew. Great food, accommodation and beautiful scenery. The rooms are luxurious and neat.
We had a great time relaxing and will definitely spend the night there again.
Very nice place, comfortable and rest for the soul.
Desert Dew is 14 km from the N1 on a good dirt road. Had a wonderful stay. Wonderful beds, stylish rooms and bathrooms, great meals. Very friendly and welcoming owners. Will definitely stay again.
Nice location. Friendly people, very pleasant. Helpful and very tasty food. Charm of the Great Karoo as I know it.
Very comfortable place. Hot air conditioner helped against the cold.
A beautiful and very neat guest house with a very nice and practical outside area. The room is very tastefully decorated, beautiful furniture and functionally laid out. We recommend this guest house with great confidence.
It has a very nice farm feeling with beautiful views over the Karoo. They provide basic facilities for overnight stays, we were grateful for milk and coffee availability in the unit, but always feel uniformity of crockery and more than what is allowed for the number of persons in the unit would be very welcome. We also had to wash the dishes before we could use them, unfortunately they were not as clean as we would prefer and the number of flies was a bit unpleasant. The internet connection was above average for such a remote area. The dirt road to the farm is not very good and especially after the rain it is quite dangerous because there are pools of water.
Food and rooms good.
The photos show that the family room contains a double bed as well as a single bed and the description explains that this room uses a shared bathroom. On our arrival a waitress from the restaurant took us to our room which only had 2 single beds. After I asked for an explanation, the hostess was called who was immediately offensive and repeatedly reminded me that this was the room I had paid for, while I tried to explain to her that the pictures did show a double bed. I even showed her the photos on the website on my phone. She then offered to move us to a room with a double bed, but clearly made us understand that we would have to pay extra. The room was indeed clean and tidy, but our reception was impersonal and we got the feeling that it was only for the hostess how much money she could make from us. And this while there were many other rooms available. Desert Dew could definitely provide better customer service.
It was quite hot in the Karoo, but wonderfully peaceful with no disturbance. Had a nice big window to look at the stars while I was half asleep.
Great food, comfortable stay.
Beautiful location. Excellent management. Warm, friendly service.
People are very hospitable, food is very good. Amenities very good. Will definitely stay there again.
Very beautiful scenery, active farming, far enough from N1 for quiet, but close enough for convenience as an overnight stay option.
The best Karoolam and pumpkin cookies I have ever eaten! Breakfast was also delicious!
Neat accommodation in the middle of the Karoo with good dinner and breakfast. However, we were disappointed with the lack of interaction with us from the management - we were kindly received and bid farewell - but in between we had literally no contact with the management/owners (all interaction was limited to that with waiters during meals) - it actually felt funny because we knew they were on the premises. There were also signs of poor management with bee. unusable hair dryer due to mismatched switch plug and broken reading bulb. It's a shame, because the two times we were able to talk to the owners they were very friendly and helpful. Maybe we hit them on a bad day?
See stars.
Already recommended it to friends. Just close enough to the N1 (14 km gravel road in good condition) and far enough to experience the quiet of the Karoo. Friendly service - clean, neat accommodation. Trim, no frills. Delicious Karoo lamb for dinner. Will definitely be back.
Spacious, comfortable and tidy accommodation. Beautiful surroundings, somewhat remote but thoroughly worth it if you want to experience Karoo night silence and safety. Delicious dinner and breakfast, feel free to book. Definitely recommend.
We had a really nice stay! Experiencing very good food and incredible hospitality! Will definitely go again!
Warmly welcomed by Erika and she even called beforehand to hear if we wanted to have dinner. Both dinner and breakfast were superb. Accommodation was wonderful and Erika had so much to tell, we almost couldn't leave. Would definitely recommend and go back there ourselves when we go to the Cape.
Thank you very much for the wonderful stay and just to feel "at home" again is nice.
Rooms spacious and tidy. Meals pleasant. I just think that breakfast should only be served when guests are seated at the table.
The leg of lamb we had for dinner was so tasty that that alone made our stay worthwhile. Johan, who welcomed us and looked after us for our stay, was a star, When we're in the area again, this will be our first choice.
Everything was perfect. From the hospitable reception and breathtaking room to the incredible dinner and tasty breakfast.
Desert Dew is a pleasant place to sleep at. Hospitable and of high standard. Would recommend it.
Very hospitable - home away from home.
Warm reception. Staff very hospitable and friendly and we were treated to delicious meals and home-made sandwiches for the road. Thank you very much!
And there was a delicious plate of hot food waiting for us! Will definitely stay there again! The place was truly an oasis after a hot day's travel. Our chalet was beautiful and very clean and tidy. We slept wonderfully in a nice bed. I would recommend this place to anyone!
Erika is a warm friendly hostess. Thank you for a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
Absolutely lovely place! The owners and staff are extremely hospitable and did everything possible to make us feel at home. The Karoo sheep dinner was a hit as was the breakfast! Farm life was a wonderful experience for our city lads, from goats, cattle to chickens! The cottages are very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Will definitely go again but next time for a week!
Friendly, hospitable people. Food was FANTASTIC! Everything was perfect.
Very pleasant. According to the guest house, breakfast was not included, even though it said it was on the quote. It had to be added extra.
Very neat and in a beautiful environment. Do think that the rooms should be air-conditioned.
Desert Dew Guest House is a very peaceful place to stay and relax. The food they prepared was very nice and tasty. The people at Desert Dew Guest House are very friendly and pleasant.
We were very impressed with the staff of the guest house. The gardens are beautifully clean and tidy and the scenery is indescribably beautiful. A swimming pool might be a plus and people might stay more than just one night if there is more to do at the guest house.
