The room was comfortable except for the one mattress which was very "soft", and the air conditioner which was broken. But the staff moved us to another room very soon. Staff very friendly and the whole area neat and clean. The restaurant and food are great.

Very nice place with power if there is load shedding! It is very comfortable and very centrally located.
Reception was very fast and friendly and the room super neat. One would have expected that provision would be made by the bed for charging mobile phones (you literally had to pull the bed away to get to a wall plug). The kettle is not cordless and therefore you also have to bend down to pull out the plug for filling. Walls are thin - could hear the guest in neighboring room snoring and any movement or talking in the hallway was audible. The restaurant was a disappointment. Apart from excellent onion rings and a fresh ice-cold beer-on-tap, the (in my case chicken schnitzel) was bland. With the Dom Pedro, a thin straw was provided that closed with the first sip. Although the waiter was friendly and quick to take the order, she disappeared cleanly and another waiter had to come and collect the plates later and look for her again for an invoice.
Staff excellent. Need to check rooms before checking in a guest to ensure side lights working, TV is correctly set, the telephone is working as well as the safe. Staff quickly rectify any problems and with a smile.
In booking asked for a double bed.
At breakfast there were no plates or spoons. Service was poor.

You can use this place at any time. Parking can become a problem as there is also a casino on site and many use it.

The rooms were clean, we received a warm welcome from the staff. They are extremely professional and the service was very nice. The staff is very friendly. The food was exceptional, we had your Chicken Schnitsels and your prices were a surprise, some restaurants will charge over R50-00 for a glass of wine. The glasses were clean and not chipped. It is a lovely place and I will definitely not stay anywhere else.

The Hotel is never quiet, typical of a casino. Guests' conversations in corridors in the morning hours are clearly audible. It's a pity that the hotel cannot be separated from the casino. The room itself is neat and clean and the staff is friendly. Security is difficult with an adjacent golf course where there is no security visible. Well, very nice stay in the busy place.

Currently they are renovating certain areas by removing carpets and fitting tiles. Balcony of the room had not being cleaned in ages and had easily 50 Cigarette lying on the balcony. Restaurant staff are in desperate need of training. One table of 8 Ladies asked for the manager about 10 times and the manager arrived about 30 minutes later. One lady gave up waiting for her cooldrink and Waffle dessert and just left. Organised chaos is the best way to describe the service at present.
Everything available for one night's stay. Casino causes some of the guests to be rowdy.
Upgrades need to be considered, especially in the rooms. The entrance road, branching off from the main road, need to be lit up at night. It poses a safety risk, whilst security officers could also be provided at the main entrance.
Guests drink, spill and make noise until late at night and from early in the morning. Leave their drink bottles everywhere and gather in front of one's room door dressed only in towels and make noise and socialize. The kitchen takes hours to prepare food and the overall condition and appearance of the hotel is not at all as shown in the photos.
Everything here at the casino was below average. For the amount that you pay for an executive room you can get way better value for money somewhere else in town. Me and my partner when on a day trip, and booked it as such. The room they gave us had 2 single beds of just 1 double. I was okay with it but then they only gave 1 set of towels and 1 of everything else (eg. coffee etc). The fridge was full of mould. The phone was broken so no room service or front desk calls. So we went to the restaurant, they are heavily overpriced and the food is so disappointing and again, below average. Don't understand how they're still open.
We were given the farthest room, no lift. Bathroom light did not work, extractor fan in bathroom sounds like a tractor. Water was off! Room full of big spiders! Cobwebs everywhere. Plugs did not work to charge phones. Poorly welded power connections under the table which pose a fire hazard. People made noise until 01:00 in the morning and this after we had been on the road all day and had to drive again the next day. A total mess and was embarrassing for me because I chose the place. WiFi was unusable. Had to use data on phone. No what.
Everything is convenient and collected. The restaurant's food is top notch.
If you have in mind something different from the usual place to stay, the Desert Palace Hotel is the perfect choice. The price was a great surprise, as was the friendly service, cleanliness and location. Would definitely recommend.

The 2 days were just good and relaxing, perhaps just look at the beds however, the one I slept on was not so comfy.
The friendliness and professionalism of the staff is second to none. My room was very neat but friendly. Although all staff made me feel at home, Rosa, at the restaurant, stood out. On my way out, I ran into some of the "housekeeping" ladies and the good wishes they gave me still echo in my ears. A neat, safe and pleasant overnight to charge batteries after a long day of driving and working.
Friendly and helpful staff. The facilities are clean and tidy and have everything needed for an overnight stop.

Management could possibly provide more assistance to the reception staff when complaints are lodged by customers; especially on weekends when it comes to repairs. Leaking toilet in room was not repaired during our stay.
Facilities such as putt-putt, bowling and casino largely contributed to the fun.
There was no elevator. We had to struggle up the stairs, unaided, to the end of the hotel. The guests were also very noisy in the early hours with doors slamming etc.
Ontvangs en rekeningafdeling is pateties. Ons kry sommer 'n rekening vir aandete wat 'n persoon op ons kamer nommer geëet het. Ons het 2 nagte bespreek deur webtuiste en toe word dit vertel deur ontvangs dat ons net 1 nag bespreek het.
Note that it is not a frequent destination but I will use it the next time I need to travel to Upington.
We are just very sorry that we had to spend the night more than 80 km from our destination. On our trip to the Augrabies Falls, we drove past dozens of guest houses that we were unaware of, and could not be "googled" because we did not know the names, and very few of them appeared on the website.
Not a lot to do in Upington.
Die tuin en plaveisel om die sirkel kort aandag. Die ingangsportaal is teleurstellend en lyk afgerem en oud. Die kamer was skoon en netjies. Die restaurant lyk afgerem en kan belê in ordentlike tafeldoeke sonder plastiese oortreksels en gedekte tafels. Hul kos en diens in die restaurant was puik.
On arrival we received a room without linen. Very disappointing as we had already been on the road for 8 hours. Had to wait for other room. Restaurant service was very poor, few waiters on duty, we waited hour for our food and when food finally arrived to us it was not all. Next morning at breakfast buffet was not set up and we had to arrange with waiter how to serve breakfast for us.
We spent the night at Desert Palace Hotel and were able to finish in peace and comfort the next morning to attend a funeral
Pleasant, safe and good for overnight.

Some of the guests were very noisy when retiring. Impacted my sleep.
Rooms smell of smoke, very loose and not well fastened.
Accommodation was satisfactory. Asked staff for information regarding places of interest to visit. Couldn't be of help. Couldn't answer questions regarding for example road to and from Augrabies. Wasn't informed about Matric farewell there. On coming back from town we waited in line for 30 minutes before we could enter. Parking for guests was also a problem. Passed on information to persons at reception.
Very peaceful area where Desert Palace Hotel is. Nice food in the restaurant with friendly staff. The golf course directly opposite is part of the premises - wonderful layout. Will check in there again if in the area.
The service was generally good, but not excellent. The dining facilities are not wonderful and we couldn't eat breakfast on the last day because they only opened 8 hours. The dinner was nice. It wasn't neat around the pool.
We were disappointed because we expected more and the smell of smoke was bad.
The place is old. Smells like smoke everywhere. TV in rooms old and poor quality.

It seems like renovations are taking place all around the room. The people are friendly and to the point. Enjoyed the casino. Restaurant needs to be renovated. Great food.
I experienced the mattress as being bad.
The cigarette smoke from the casino area permeates the entire hotel and all areas, the smoke is a nuisance. Also in our room which was the furthest away from the casino area. Room was not ready upon our arrival at 14h10. We had to wait 30 minutes. No hotel guide available in room.
Everything was amazing from the moment we arrived until we left!
