Had a great time in nature and the accommodation was fantastic.
We had a wonderful stay!
The most beautiful view over the Namib and a plus that it is only 5km from the Sossusvlei gate and Sesriem Canyon.
The camp is ideally located for a visit to Sossusvlei. It forms part of a larger setup that includes Sossusvlei Lodge and Desert Camp. Amenities are sufficient for overnight stays and self-catering. I would recommend that there are tables next to the bed, it's quite a misery if there is no place to put something next to the bed. Furthermore, the kitchenette's canvas definitely needs attention. Our unit's tarpaulin did not close properly and was also torn. However, this did not detract from our stay. WiFi at the accommodation does not exist at all and it's an excursion every time to get reception of any kind. Although some people disappear from the scene on vacation, it is quite necessary to just "check in" sometimes.
Just short of cabinets next to the bed, and easy chairs outside by the braai.
Was disappointed not to be able to stay at Desert Quiver Camp, apparently "overbooked" after we received confirmation of the reservation a week before our arrival. The person I spoke to was not very friendly or helpful and we were told to move to the Desert Camp next door. There we met very friendly staff and were able to have a nice stay. Place was clean and comfortable with a beautiful view. I still recommend both places because it is such a beautiful area.
The tents are beautiful and very well equipped. The camp is nice and close to the entrance to Sesriem/Sossusvlei. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
Ideal for overnight or to rest an evening or two. Beautiful wildlife that comes to visit the camp.
Although the rooms are neat and big, I expected more from the establishment given the price I paid. We ordered food in advance. It was tasty, although portions were small. The disappointment is the fact that there are no cutlery and kitchen facilities. You also have to order this in advance and receive it in a crate for which you have to pay a deposit. You'd think they'd at least tell you about it ahead of time, since they can see you're ordering food again for a barbecue? And then you are told on top of that that you have to wash the dishes yourself and take the crate back to reception to get your deposit back. For me, this is an unnecessary inconvenience and the website can certainly check and compare with establishments that charge similar prices in equally popular tourist destinations. WiFi also only works at the reception/bar and not in the rooms.
Nice stay! However, rooms are not completely self-catering. You have to rent another box with all kitchen and crockery at reception, so make sure you have cash on you for this! Cash is returned when you return box to your stay.
Loved everything about it. Ultimate Namib desert experience. Will do it again.
Nice place to stay in the desert, few kilometers from Sossusvlei. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Houses were clean and the beds slept very nice.
Pool was a bonus, aircon also very handy against the heat. The kitchen is very basic but that is the only improvement we can suggest. Also very nice stay.
Desert Quiver Camp is located near the main road leading to Sossusvlei main gate which makes it very convenient. We were very pleased with the service and products we ordered from the main lodge to braai. They have everything you would need and are of good quality and fresh.
Let me kick off by saying that Desert Quiver Camp is a breathtakingly beautiful facility in a landscape that literally lets you take thousands of photos. The A-frame cottages are extremely well equipped and the pool area is lovely. The food products list on which you can place orders for "self-catering" is great and the portions were large, fresh and very tasty (we ordered chops, sausages and salads for 2 and were able to make road food from them the next day!). I would like to share our experience at Desert Quiver in order to also ensure a more positive experience for future travelers (and especially SADC guests). The staff at reception (I almost think the guy's name was Andrew?) were incredibly friendly and helpful and we had a great time chatting. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the management. Let me explain. On day 2 of our visit, we decided to spend the sweltering afternoon at the pool and bar area and drink a few Tafel Lagers. Now I must quickly explain; the bar and pool area, the reception and the office of the manager(s) located literally within a radius of 20 m from each other. The bar was unmanned throughout and we just popped in to the manager and asked if we could order a beer as the reception wasn't manned either. The manager was extremely curt and the receptionist who sat and chatted with him went to help us with great difficulty and with a very long face. When we wanted to order another beer, I walked to the driver's door again and asked with our usual Afrikaner decency if we could perhaps order another beer. The manager, obviously annoyed, told the reception person to help us. I wait outside and I reckon the manager thought I was already gone because I hear him saying to the receptionist in the most snide way possible "oh, just give them 4 so they can let us out". Needless to say, we didn't have the courage to relax at the pool area any further and instead headed back to our cottage. May I add that shortly after this incident a German tourist couple came to sit at the bar and instantly the (until that point missing-in-action) bartender, the receptionist as well as the other manager were there to help them. For many this may sound "petty", but for us it was an incident that spoiled our otherwise breathtaking Desert Quiver experience. For a South African who pays in rands, this is not cheap accommodation - on the contrary - it was the most expensive accommodation of our entire Namibia tour and it was disappointing for us that a person in charge could be so pertinently incompetent with people who - like any other tourist - drove far and paid dearly to come and work out at the facility. PS - a final tip: the reception may mention to guests upon arrival that cutlery and cookware are available at reception (there is only a kettle and glasses at the cottages). On our first night, we thought that cutlery was part of the self-catering and ate very nicely from the grill.
Enjoyed the place a lot but the staff don't seem that interested in customer care.
Neat chalets with outside kitchen. You can pay R300 for kitchen utensils at reception. As soon as you return, you get R300 back. The pool is a winner after a long hot day. There are no meals available at the lodge. Note both options are prohibitively expensive and I would suggest people bring their own food instead. Check what's included with tours booked at Sossusvlei Lodge. We were charged a breakfast that we didn't ask for, which we were then told we had to pay for even though we didn't eat it because the lodge makes it for every person who goes on the trip. It is R270 for a bowl of cereal (my meal) and a cup of coffee that my husband drank.
Something that should be on everyone's bucket list is staying at Desert Quver Camp while you explore the area.
Great option for a visit to the amazing Soussosvlei. Excellent location!
Really enjoyed it, has a beautiful view and well located.
