All accommodation is self-catering and is served by solar and gas power. There is a large 10-sleeper guest house, a quaint 4-sleeper guest cottage, a delightful 4-sleeper stone cottage, and 2 luxuriously decorated king suites.
There is a picnic and braai area at the boma next to the gorge as well as a boma next to the Zebra and Springbok units. There is a Wi-Fi hotspot available at reception reaching all the houses except the Kliphuis. There is a small shop where guests can buy some basics, ice and some souvenirs. Card facilities are available. Firewood can be ordered. All the units, except the Eland house has wood-fired hot tubs.
Desert Wind boasts a variety of game and wildlife that you can view on the farm or go for a drive to the new watering hole. Game drives can be arranged should you not have a suitable vehicle. You are welcome to bring your mountain bike or just go on foot to explore nature or just relax in the hot tub while enjoying the scenery.

It was food for the soul!
The getaway to Desert Wind was the perfect weekend to spend time with the family. We stayed in the stone house and the children had one adventure after another in the dry riverbed. The hot tub and braai facilities also ensured nice and quiet evenings. No cell phone network at the stone house is also excellent for a "disconnect to connect" time with the family. (There is network at reception if calls need to be made). Would recommend the place to any person who wants to spend good family time.
Very nice. I want to go back.
The peaceful environment, nice clean cottage and friendly staff contributed to a wonderful 2 day visit in the Karoo. The springbok, moose, gemsbok and sheep in the area contributed to a wonderful experience. The cycling was good but challenging for a less experienced rider. Thank you for your warm welcome and for your friendly service and cleaning.
Very nice experience. Could relax well.
Alicia and Jaco really made so much effort to make our visit even more enjoyable. The Jacuzzi and semi 4x4 route was a highlight for us. They made an effort to put rugby on for us and celebrated Heritage Day with us. Thank you.
Alicia and staff were fantastic hosts, the house is beautifully decorated and there was nothing that we needed that was not there. They even organised an Easter egg hunt for the kids. We felt very welcome and pampered. The little shop stocks all essentials, from spices to potbrood mix to feminine products to beanies and wood and ice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the kids really enjoyed the hot tub. Thanks Alicia, we'll be back!
Value for money, quiet and beautiful world, exceptional stay enjoyed.
Absolutely amazing place! The house and surroundings are neat and clean, the nature and the silence are an experience! The Jacuzzi provides a lot of fun for the children as well as adults. It was a perfect getaway to be able to forget about the city and its busy life. We had an incredibly nice rest, thank you very much!
Die kliphuis was an amazing experience, beautiful nature.
We had a very nice stay. It's very beautiful and a lovely house surrounded by the Karoon nature.
We’ve stayed at Die Kliphuis and it was exactly as the pics on the website - no, actually better. You cannot describe the beauty af the setting. The house itself is incredible. Biggest fireplace with open windows to bring the nature (cactus and rock formations) from outside in. Comfortable over-sized couches and comfortable bed with great quality linen. My only critique will be the steep steps leading to the bathroom (which in itself is amazing with a huge soaking tub and also created with the rock surface) as this is a little dangerous to navigate in the pitch black night. But overall a definite must go back with family and friends experience.
We stayed in the Kliphuis. The accommodation is comfortable and well-equipped. We enjoyed being off the grid and away from technology. Marilyn, the farm manager was friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome. A worthwhile experience. Please note the road down to Kliphuis is not sedan friendly but our little Nissan 1400 bakkie coped very well.
We made a reservation 3 weeks before the date. 3 days in advance we called to confirm. On arrival the outside gate was locked. Waited for 2 hours. No cell phone reception, drove to the nearest town about 30 km away on a bad dirt road. I called the lady and she told me the gate was open, it might just look like it was locked. Drove back, but gate was still closed and then had to wait another hour. As luck would have it, a bakkie stopped and unlocked it. They told me they were not aware of my arrival. After the situation they immediately went to work to clean the place and get us set up and were very friendly. Nice place and very peaceful.
Very nice and peaceful, but the house leaks terribly when it rains. There are no buckets in the house, so the living room carpet is soaked. Bathroom has a terrible urine smell when it rains because badgers urinate on roof and it leaks in door by rocks. The little shop that is on the web doesn't exist either. Just pack everything you need for the weekend. Would not stay there at all if it rains because the stench is very bad.
This year we decided to celebrate Christmas completely differently and checked in at Die Kliphuis. What a pleasant surprise. Everything was exactly as on the internet. It's 100% safe with all the comfort you need. We were so close to nature and also spotted many goats in the early mornings. It's any nature photographer's dream. We will definitely go again.
Beautiful Karoo farm. But read the fine print: 40km of rough dirt road outside Montagu, no electricity, no cell phone signal on the farm OR on the way there. The small guest house is definitely not suitable for a family that wants to stay longer than one night. There is no table with chairs to sit at for indoor or outdoor dining. Kitchen has almost no work surface and as already mentioned there is no table either. No hanging closet or place to unpack a suitcase. The rest is as promised. Peace and quiet, enough wood and basic amenities were clean and tidy. The farm manager who received us was very friendly.
We shortened our vacation by 3 days because we were "stranded" and you need a pickup truck at least to get around. This was not mentioned to us and my car suffered damage and tires were totally destroyed.
The staff were wonderful and friendly. The house itself was beautiful with all amenities. If you want to escape from the everyday hustle and bustle and technology this is the best place. You also learn to communicate again....there were times when I felt I was deaf, just nature. I plan to go again. The beautiful animals there and oh yes the ride with the quad bike, indescribably wonderful. I would like to thank Koos and Prillie...... Here we go again.....
