They accommodated us a lot to let us check in at 12h00, due to our function which started @ 15h00, and we already had to drive at 13h30 because the dirt road is very bad and I came from Pretoria in the morning. However, the reservation was a B&B that included a continental breakfast, but that did not materialize. Upon enquiry, the lady informed me that their accommodation no longer included breakfast.
We requested earlier access to the river as my husband wanted to do some fly-fishing. Sarita was very accommodating and allowed the use of the property before the 2 pm check-in time. The website booking clearly stated that our booking included breakfast and that is why we made the booking at a 5-star venue, however on check-in, Sarita stated that breakfast was not included. I do believe that the rates should be reduced and the amenities updated as this is clearly false advertising/misrepresentation of the services offered.
Devondale needs to be upgraded.

The room is opposite the kitchen so it is very noisy. The guest house does not provide for load shedding, so when the power is off, there is no power or light in the room. This is very poor for a guest house. There was no air conditioner in the room. The location of the house is nice, but the room and service are not up to standard.
The host was an absolute gem. Very attentive, friendly and helpful. The staff were very friendly and warm. Everything was 100% perfect. Will definitely visit again. Loved the sounds of the river in the background. Superb. Parys is definitely a beautiful town.

Wida of Devondale really goes out of her way to make one as comfortable and convenient as possible. The garden is like a paradise and you can peacefully sit by the river and read a book or just relax. If you want to get out of the city, Devondale is definitely for you.
We had a fantastic stay; the guest house is very centrally located - close to golf courses and day-hiking trails in the Vredefort Dome - and set in beautiful surroundings, right on the river. Our room was very spacious and clean and the bar fridge well stocked. Staff were attentive and helpful. The highlight was the couples massage and picnic outside on the banks of the river, under the trees with the birds singing in the background and the water cobbling over the rapids. Pure bliss - highly recommended.
We had a great time and were treated to breakfast in the beautiful garden. Can definitely recommend the Artlovers Restaurant - had a great dinner there. Will definitely want to stay longer next time.

This guesthouse is in such a wonderful location, right next to the river and in between horses. I found the room and bathroom absolutely luxurious and there was nice coffee in the room. The hostess makes you feel very welcome and the house is just wonderful. Whether you want to sit on the stoep and work or at the table in the room, Devondale gets my vote every time.
We wanted to visit Parys on our trip from Cape Town to Klaserie and Devondale Guesthouse seemed like a good stopover. The guesthouse is beautiful and the setting on the banks of the Vaal is lovely. The host was away but her friend was there to welcome us and so we were well looked after. Unfortunately we had a long drive the next morning so were unable to enjoy a hot breakfast but there were cereals and other breakfast items in the fridge for us to enjoy before we left.
Wida gave us a warm welcome, you can't go wrong with Devondale. Thank you for a great experience.

The honeymoon suite is neat and modern. A lot of detail is given to decor. The early morning massages outside under the trees by the river were a highlight.

You immediately feel at home. We broke away for our wedding anniversary. Upon arrival, Wida informed us that she had upgraded us to the honeymoon suite at no extra cost. The room was exceptional and tasteful. You could hear and see the river outside your room. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!
We felt very welcome, the people were friendly and our room was very nice. We had everything we needed and it's probably not far from Paris' main street. We enjoyed going to see the horses and sat a lot by the river. It's a nice place to get away and get some fresh air.
Our second visit to Devondale. It was the first place the children wanted to go when lockdown began to lift for guest houses. Great frolicking in the pool and the tranquility of the river and trees was just what we needed.

I booked this venue as it is advertised as a bed and breakfast. Upon arrival we were told that they no longer serve a full breakfast but a continental breakfast. I felt a little cheated as the continental breakfast consisted of a laughing cow cheese wedge, muesli, a very small bowl of grapes and a liqui fruit. There was no breakfast continental or other served to us at a separate fining area.

My wife and I were there with friends and I also booked a room for the friends for the evening. We were pleasantly surprised with the friendly service and tidy rooms and house and garden. We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Paris or nearby.
During the discussion, I brought it to Wida's attention that it was our wedding anniversary and I wanted to treat my wife to a special breakfast in the garden. It was promised and on this promise I made the reservation and paid in full, but never realized, only cold breakfast in the small fridge. We just had to go and have breakfast in town.

I think we were all surprised at the lovely rooms and beautiful gardens. I think you need to decide beforehand whether you just want a bed and shower, or whether you want to relax in luxury next to the Vaal River. This place is definitely number 2. Otherwise you could stay for cheaper in town to enjoy Parys as destination. On a different note, they need a bit more milk in the fridge and perhaps a few slices of bread and toaster for breakfast in the breakfast room. But otherwise it was very memorable. Lovely location just a few km outside Parys.

It is very beautiful there. It was really very relaxing by the river. The whole way it is advertised is just misleading. With B&B I expect decent breakfast and not just a bowl of yogurt with a case in the fridge. R1200 for 2 persons is quite expensive for what we got.

The guesthouse is right on the riverbanks and we were able to fly-fish. The swimming pool that overlooks the river was a welcome addition. The room was stylishly furnished and very neat.
