Die Anker is very conveniently located with the sea literally on the doorstep. The basic necessities are there although we feel that a little maintenance is needed. A fresh coat of paint, especially in the bathroom, will make a big difference. The bedding and towels are also tired and run down. We would also like to open the curtain to see the beautiful sea, but then there is no privacy in the room. Blinds may be a better option. Despite this we had a nice stay.

A lovely oasis at the end of a long trip. Tia is such a welcoming and kind hostess, and everything needed was in the unit. The unit is spotless, and the accommodation is comfortable, and the sea view is amazing. We had dinner at the adjoining restaurant, The Cabin, with freshly prepared food and the best Greek salad ever!

One is received kindly. The place is clean and beds are very comfortable. Provision is even made for power in case of load shedding so that one can use WiFi and watch TV, it was a nice option for my wife in the evenings especially.

When you book for 4 people, the pictures might be a little misleading. The apartment used for 4 people is not attached to the main building/restaurant but rather is separate and to the side of it. Not many pictures are available of this apartment on the website. The apartment has 1 room with a double bed and single bed, and another double bed located in the kitchen with no door/wall/separation. Kitchen is well-equipped. Separate toilet and bathroom, both neat and clean. Shower had good pressure. Plenty of bedding. Host was difficult to reach (for check-in and check-out) as none of the phone numbers associated with the facility seemed to work.
Accommodation is as you drive into the village, and just across the road is the sea. Has beautiful sunsets with a restaurant just next door, serving very nice seafood. People are very friendly.

Thea was very friendly and helpful. The Snookie unit can develop into very good accommodation, but it definitely needs some work. The unit has a great view and is also nice and private. Would suggest the owner pay some attention to the furniture. Although we didn't use the roof fan, I suggest the owner look into it as it seems not very safe. Would also suggest replacing some of the kitchen utensils (grater, vegetable peeler). Otherwise we had a very nice stay and Doringbaai is a very cute place.
Somewhat of a disappointment! Bitterly basic, really just a place to sleep. Would not like to stay here again. It needs a lot of love and attention to make it a choice of accommodation for the future, despite the fantastic location. It gives a feeling of a backpackers accommodation.

It really is value for money. There is only one window next to the door in the room which needs to be either taped or painted over as it feels like you have no privacy. Thea was really great and the people who work for her very helpful. We also had our laundry done there for a minimal fee. The ladies in the restaurant are also very friendly and the breakfast is value for money!

The Anker Guesthouse has a very good location and overlooks the sea and the harbor with its wine cellar and restaurant. The unit is very nice and well equipped. A visit to the Fryers Cove Wine Cellar and restaurant in the harbor is a definite must when visiting Doring Bay. However, if you want to visit the restaurant on a weekend, make sure to book in advance - it's worth it.

The eatery right next door is convenient for the traveller. The room was small, but with everything you need. However, the duvet on the bed could be a bit more cuddly for winter conditions. Luckily we had an extra warm blanket with us in our car, which we were able to take out.

There was no one to receive us. Neighbors informed us that we should call a certain number that was on the door for someone to receive us. Did not take any food or things to make our own food. On booking I was informed that there is a restaurant right next to the guest house where we can eat. Restaurant was already closed at 15:00. The neighbors informed us that the restaurant was closed due to a power outage. There are two other restaurants open. We visited one, but it was so dirty that we didn't get a chance to eat there. We then went to the harbor where there was another restaurant with a generator. It was then already 16:30. We were informed that the restaurant closes at 17:00 but that they would help us. Luckily we were able to have a good meal there. Thanks for managing the restaurant. It might have been good if the guest house could have informed us that we would have to cook ourselves, then we could bring the necessary equipment. Then left the next day for Melkbosstrand where we could stay at a much neater guest house at a lower cost. Lost the money that had already been paid at Die Anker. Unfortunately, I would not be able to recommend the place to any other person. The website might just need to make sure about the location before they support it.

Doornbaai is a mostly poor, working town, with a certain charm including a mostly defunct fisheries and a new abalone farm and a lighthouse along a rugged lovely coastline. I had a good early morning walk down to the lighthouse, after aborting an evening walk because of the unwanted attention of a variety of old and young beggars. In my opinion the tough challenge for making it attractive for visitors is to make the towns story and efforts to grow the towns economy feel inclusive.
Clean and tidy nice and quiet place, nice place for a short break.
It's an annual favorite for me and my fiancé, haven't been there in a while. Think COVID affected the restaurant department a lot because it wasn't the same quality as we remember but not too little still very nice.
As we like privacy, we chose the dinky little standalone unit called Snoekie. While its basic and had some quirks, the staff were very accommodating and we had fun exploring the Fryer's Cove jetty winery-cum-restaurant, hiking paths, surrounding towns and beaches.

The guesthouse will be recommended for its location. However, the facility appears a bit dilapidated. The room was spacious though. Privacy was an issue when the curtains were opened to enjoy the view. There was also uncertainty about the safety of the parking at the guest house as there was no fence. We are also of the opinion that the accommodation is somewhat overpriced.

We were 3 guys on a motorcycle tour, Thea had called us earlier in the day to find out if we were still in one piece, upon our arrival Thea our hostess was waiting for us and she looked after us with wood and refreshments. Die Anker is a cozy place with a beautiful view of the bay.

There was a power outage for 2 hours. Luckily I brought my own small flashlight. Had to eat in the dark. There was indeed a black box on wheels under the table. No indication what it could be. No signal when the power went out so I couldn't call or do anything. Next day when I see her again she will tell me that the black box is a power box with batteries in it if the power goes out. Then she arrived with bedside light to show how it works. Also told me if I would turn on the TV then at least we would have light. No indication or instructions what to do if the power went out. Unacceptable!

Doringbaai is definitely the lower town. So-called restaurant is permanently closed, but you only find out when you get there.
Here you can sit on the veranda and look out to sea. The food at the restaurant is very tasty.

The Seahorse Room offers a fantastic view of Fryer's Cove. You can actually just sit there all day and watch the bay's changing colors. The room and bathroom are neat and clean and we were received hospitably.
The accommodation was spacious and comfortable. The chef listened to goats and preferences and prepared a delicious meal. See you again!

The mattresses should have been replaced a long time ago. Mop, broom and shovel are stored behind the bedroom door. Decent barbecue equipment can be purchased. Those that are there mean nothing.
Slept very badly the 2 nights, couldn't wait to get home to sleep on a decent mattress. Bamboo SC is extremely weak. Mop, shovel and broom are stored behind the room door. Grilling equipment is worth nothing, feel free to purchase decent grilling equipment.
