Die Damhuis

The self-catering unit comprises bedrooms, one shared bathroom, a fully serviced open-plan kitchen and a dining area. The braai area is shaded by large Acacia trees, and overlooking the dam will be the perfect ending to a day exploring the bush trails where wildlife enthusiast may spot several of our antelope species such as kudu, duiker and steenbok, wild boars and bush pig which roam the fenceless camp.
The Damhuis is truly a “green” retreat boasting its own solar panelled electricity supply and gas for cooking and warm water.
Activities at Die Damhuis include fishing of carp, barber and kurper as well as bird watching, canoeing or stargazing around the bonfire pit or entertaining on the large stoep, with its big table, perfect for al fresco dining.
This is a farm and we love the rain. Although great care is taken to maintain the road, we cannot control the elements. If your car does get stuck, please feel free to contact us. We will come and pull your car out with one of our tractors.

25 guests' feedbackIt is ideal for a weekend getaway. We caught big fish. Very nice stay. The dam has receded a lot, we are aware of the heat wave and water problems. Just warn visitors to bring kazibu for sun. Where water lies shallow, there is no shade.
Very nice stay, very quiet and peaceful. A nice camping chair I would recommend. Also caught nice fish. The team looked after us very well.
We were looking for a place, close to Pretoria, but in the bush. Everything was pretty neat, and "rustic". We had a really nice stay. All inquiries were answered quickly. There is enough space for walking or cycling. We would consider going again.
We will visit again.
This little place is all you need for a nice quiet weekend away. It is well equipped with what you might need. A microwave would have been nice, but we got along without it. Nice braai area with the boma. Glad I took my own camping chairs. The dam is a nice cool down on the hot days. Will definitely visit again.
We had a relaxing weekend and enjoyed our stay. Thank you for promptly filling the water tank when it was empty.
Everything neat and clean. Thank you Johan for going out of your way to accommodate us with generators if we needed them but the solar system was 100% sufficient even though there was no sun! Will definitely go again and the fish are biting! Would only request that thorn trees need some trimming as they made fishing difficult and roof in spare room leaked due to the lot of rain! Other than that, everything was neat.
Very quiet, enough wood for the winter cold and barbecue, and hanging out around the fire. Enjoyed it a lot. Will definitely go again in the summer for bird watching.
It's the first time in 20 years that we don't get up with a sore body during vacation. We slept great. The children fished during the day and night. The fish are biting nicely and the fish you pull out looks in good condition. They mostly walked barefoot and only here and there pulled a thorn out of their foot when they strayed from the walking areas. I have never played as much Rummicup as there, my kids loved it. There is a small leak in the boat but if you sit on your knees and feet then your stern stays dry but it might be something that can be looked into. The brukkie / dock's boards need some attention and the whole house needs a good cleaning. There is also a plant growing over the path down to the pond that needs to be removed. It's in the way when you run after a biting fishing rod in the dark. Of course it's in the woods so be considerate of unwelcome guests like our brown house snake that was waiting for us in the kitchen cupboard and the whole farm's flies that join in for dinner if it's before 6pm. But all in all we had a great time and sang songs around the bon fire and fished, boated, cycled, walked, saw cattle, the most beautiful moonrise over the still water that reflects the moon. It was delicious and very special with precious family moments. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't afraid of a few bugs.
The Dam House needs attention. The hessian at the front door was torn. The drawers in the kitchen and rooms are dusty and smelly. The cracked glass top in the kitchen is unacceptable. The roof in the room with 2 single beds is leaking. There are no comfortable chairs for outside. We were forced to use the generator while we actually went to seek out bushveld silence. All in all, R1000 per night is hopelessly too much for what Die Damhuis offers. I would not recommend the accommodation to friends. Sorry John.
Very neat and clean. Johan was very helpful and friendly. Can definitely recommend the place and will visit again.
Very pretty. View and facilities nice. Caretaker very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again. Quiet and secluded.
Sorry the pond wasn't fuller.
Price is a bit much for what you get.
An incredible cremation, beautifully rested, clean with everything one needs. Definitely recommend for a friends weekend. Although the road is close, the noise is not that bad and completely acceptable. Definitely on my list for a future visit.
The Damhuis is well furnished, tidy and good value for money. We were able to rest wonderfully and the children really enjoyed the pond with canoe. We struggled with the water and power, but Johan was immediately available to fix everything. Maybe take drinking water with you. Will definitely want to go again.
Very peaceful and quiet, although the road passes close by it is still a nice break.
We had a great stay, although there was load shedding it didn't bother us, because the house is equipped with solar power. Will be happy to visit Die Damhuis again in the future and recommend to others.
The Damhuis is a nice getaway spot for people who want to get out of the city and don't want to drive too far. It is affordable and well appointed and meets one's basic needs. The fact that the dam is also within walking distance is a plus. The traffic is audible from the road and can be disturbing for those looking for absolute silence. Otherwise, we can happily recommend it.
We were received with open arms. The house has everything you need. There was more than enough fire wood for three nights. The children played on a new raft on the pond and rode in the canoe when they weren't manning the fishing rods. I would recommend Die Damhuis anytime and we as a family would definitely go there again for a weekend.
Nice place inside, water level was a bit low, but that's just nature, nice fish caught, catfish and carp, would recommend anytime, just not sure for little ones, think thorns will bother and not much for children to occupy themselves with , for adults and couples, fantastic. Thank you guys.
Many thanks to owners. Was there over the December holiday. Great getaway in nature. Very good host. Would recommend place to everyone from family to group of friends.
It is the ideal place for a weekend getaway with a very peaceful atmosphere. The owners received us kindly and hospitably. The unit has everything needed. We really enjoyed the board games and were also lucky to pull out quite a few fish. Despite the road running past the farm, it is for sure a place I would recommend.
