It was nice and quiet, with a very good view and all the amenities we wanted. The indoor barbecue is a plus if the weather doesn't play along so nicely.
It is such a beautiful place and we would have liked to stay longer.
The owners have done well to restore it so nicely! Beautiful place in the gorge, with the most beautiful view! Tidy. Safe. Friendly staff.
Had a great time and slept well at Die Kloof. Friendly staff. Unforgettably enjoyable.
We had a wonderful stay. Most beautiful place with a beautiful location. Just remember, no shower. Only a bath.
It was a wonderful weekend.
Lovely old house with a stunning view. We enjoyed braaing in the large indoor braai in the kitchen area as the weather was a bit chilly to use the outside braai. Comfy beds and linen. No WiFi, but there is reception at the house. Trying and buying their wine is also a must!
Beautiful little farmhouse, tranquil with nice streams and walks to explore close by. Ceres and PAH are quiet and we had poor weather so there wasn't much to do. Shame the weather was so bad, we had a lovely braai outside the first night.
House is fully equipt. Always clean and neat. Love the quietness and atmosphere of the place.
We enjoyed the stoep with beautiful views and relaxing chairs. The house had lots of space for our family of four (2 x adult children). It was clean and neat, and everything was in good working order. The heaters came in handy, again - in working order. The braai places are also lovely. Thanks.
What a lovely place. In the Kloof, families or large groups can socialize in the kitchen while the fireplace crackles. If you plan to travel further this is the perfect place to sleep snuggly. In our opinion, it is also a cozy place to stay for a few days. The cottage has a secret gem hidden in the guestbook lying on the kitchen table. The story of a guest and his search for a leopard had us laughing all the way to the West Coast.
We love going here. It is really a little treasure in the Cederberg.
Kieppie was very helpful. Thank you, he is an iron and very patient.
Second time we have spent the night there and the hope is that we will have many more such occasions as it is an excellent place to spend the night after a long day's work.
Very neat, well-equipped overnight accommodation after a long day's work.
Was absolutely fantastic. Delicious farm hospitality and peace of mind. Had a great time, thank you very much.
The house is in a wide kloof, far from neighbours and noise pollution.
We booked the long weekend of 22 to 25 September for my husband and myself as well as my son, his wife and two grandchildren. Firstly, I must say we had an amazing time as a family. The kitchen has a lovely fireplace so we spent most of our time there; braaiing, cooking and doing activities with the children. Outside there are lovely walking trails, place for the children to play and cycling routes. Sunday afternoon the storm came and with it plenty of rain but we were still very comfortable there. Monday morning a friend and neighbour called me and sent video clips showing me how our bridge had been flooded and thereby cutting us off from our home. I called Die Kloof's representative and told her what happened. My son had offered to let us stay at his house but we asked Die Kloof if it was possible for my husband and myself to stay another night. She told me it wasn't a problem and I asked her to send me the invoice for the extra night. On Tuesday while driving home I received the invoice and noticed that it was quite expensive. I let Die Kloof know via email that I was not pleased with this. She amended the invoice, but there was no apology nor remorse shown. This unfortunately put a damper on the experience especially as we were already anxious about whether or not we would be able to get home. I'd still recommend Die Kloof.
Die Kloof is the perfect place to rest in nature.
The road to the cottage is not as bad as other reviewers said, my Mini made it easily. The Christie Prins trail was a highlight. Cottage is perfect and has everything you need.
All that we expected from such an idyllic destination.
Did hit my head on the low door frame more than once and almost fell on low stairs in middle bedroom. Wind came through a bit through old windows that don't seal. House has everything you need if you need to stay for the weekend due to again.
Lovely stay! Will definitely stay again. The gravel to the house is just a bit far and not "easy", otherwise it is good.
Learned all over again how to open and close a farm gate.
Lovely old-fashioned farmhouse with lovely trees and all the necessary amenities. Farm road in one place a challenge with my Ford Ikon. Manager very helpful.
We enjoyed the barbecue in the kitchen. Rooms nice and warm and cozy with heaters. Beautiful place.
We had a great time. The area outside was lovely and when it started to get cold, we had a good time in the kitchen with a barbecue. I might make the outside shower a little more private, maybe just put up a screen that points to the workers' cottages. Other than that, everything was very nice.
It was great staying at Die Kloof. The hot tub is great, but you need to remember to take enough firewood and start the fire soonest to get the water warm enough to use in the wintertime. Suggestions: To add WiFi and placing radio/audio player in the cottage for some music as there is no television set.
Beautiful and peaceful setting with great isolation and excellent for a weekend break away. The hot tub is a fantastic element and although there is only an outdoor shower it is very sheltered and warm even though it was 7 degrees over the weekend we stayed there.
Safe, easy, convenient. Nice place for a break.
The place is beautiful and very well equipped. It is quiet and peaceful, the children really enjoyed the farm and had fun moving around outside. Will definitely stay there again.
It was a wonderful experience to experience in this beautifully restored farmhouse from yesteryear. The cottage is very tastefully furnished and the peaceful atmosphere of the area is definitely worth visiting for wonderful relaxation and recharging and rest from the busy hectic life. The friendly reception of Charmaine as well as the staff of Lemoenkloof also contributed a lot to a perfect visit away from home. Would definitely recommend the place to anyone who wants to recharge and relax.
Die Kloof is a great place to get away and enjoy a quiet and private break. Lovely heritage house with everything you need for a self-catering venue. The wood-fired Jacuzzi was a great addition under the stars.
Truly wonderful place to escape the big city without being too withdrawn.
Chantell was extremely helpful and everything was beautiful. Delicious fireplaces and duvets of the highest quality.
A wonderful, peaceful stay in a character filled cottage with lovely views down the valley. The hot tub was the cherry on the cake.
The most beautiful and peaceful place to recharge. Well equipped and comfortable stay. Excellent value for money. The only challenges simply needs to be communicated clearly to guests, then it will be no issue. We could not get hold of the manager on duty. For example we needed help with the gate. No response. The surface in the house is very uneven. No problem for most of us but not recommended for elderly people.
The place perfectly met our need for family time.
Incredible view and very peaceful in nature. It's a perfect getaway from the city if you just want to rest and enjoy the scenery.
Location is beautiful, house is however not comfortable, especially not suitable for the elderly with all the steps and uneven surfaces, water pressure got way too low by day 3 of our stay that the toilet was no longer flushing properly and the outside shower had a trickle of water. Beds not comfortable either. Kitchen pans are in need of an upgrade, was not able to make a proper breakfast as pans are old and black coming off. Cushions for patio furniture in need of an upgrade, they were old and dirty. Even though we drove a double cab high clearance vehicle the road is in serious need of repair.
Weather made outdoor visit difficult, but place full of character.
Best place to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Children really enjoyed the "hot tub". Very special place will want to stay here longer next time.
You live in cosmopolitan conditions year round, take out 5 days for a family opportunity to unwind and it is a huge success. Mission accomplished. Thank you to the people of the whole area. You tell us human interaction is still real, and deep down we are the same no matter what. Charmaine, a person we never met, was so friendly as though we had known her forever. Thank you for etching that humanity into our lives. So much more to say.
We enjoyed it so much, it's neat, the indoor grill worked, we had rain at the weekend, so the house was nice and warm. Definitely for people who love nature.
Wonderful views, peaceful atmosphere and well equipped. The wine from the farm is absolutely recommended. Charmaine received us warmly and drove us out to the house. Look out for the beautiful owls here.
Service was great, the most delicious indoor barbecue and outdoor hot tub. View breathtaking. Just take yourself and go relax.
The tranquility, natural beauty and certainly also the beautiful antique furniture!
Die Kloof is a gem - really hidden in a gorge. Can really recommend if you want to get away from the city.
Wonderful hospitality.
The house met all our expectations. It's a very old house with a lot of character and the description on the website is accurate. We just decided that the people 200 years ago were definitely much shorter than us. You just have to coo when you walk through the doors. The bedding is of high quality. In winter you have to bring a lot of wood - two fireplaces burn a lot of wood, very quickly but it makes the house wonderfully cozy.
Very friendly service, real old pioneer house!
I will definitely return. I went with a group of friends and we all enjoyed the place. The weather was terrible, but we made a cosy fire and hanged and chatted all night in the kitchen. The Kol Kol was the highlight for me. No matter if it was raining, we were in there. Just a note: it's better if you come with a bakkie because the gravel road is harsh on a low car. We managed to avoid bad scraps, but a bakkie would be better.
Very nice stay, most beautiful view.
See stars.
The location is great. You feel part of farm life.
An incredibly nice four nights we spent in Die Kloof. Any weather is good weather here. If the weather is nice, you walk on the footpaths. If it's raining and cold, you barbecue inside and light the fireplace. A beautifully restored, well-equipped, historic house on a working farm. The cows and a few chickens add to the peaceful atmosphere.
My family and I found our place.
We were impressed with the size of the accommodation and the outside terrace with the beautiful view of Ceres is a lovely place to hang out.
Well equipped. Clean. Lovely location. Wet wood supplied, disappointing. Tip take your own supply of wood in winter for indoor fireplaces.
A great little find, loved being in the countryside. We all enjoyed the donkey boiler Jacuzzi. Well equipped and really comfy beds.
We totally loved the whole place and everything about it.
Beautiful picture, we want to go again for sure.
The most beautiful old farmhouse - so beautifully restored in a gorge overlooking Ceres in the distance! We were very kindly welcomed by Ashley. Everyone enjoyed the Kol-kol very much - we could hardly get the kids out of it. Will definitely recommend the place and want to visit again.
Very nice break from the city. Beautiful scenery. Real farmhouse feel. Barbecue outside under the stars, we especially enjoyed the jacuzzi on the veranda. Very good value for money.
Because it is an old farmhouse with distinctive thick walls, it is the ideal place for people who still have a flair for the "years back feeling". Neat and clean with a lovely place to hang out under the stars, where after the braai you can make a fire again until late at night. Although all the modern conveniences are there, I wouldn't recommend it for city-dwellers who don't have a flair for quiet farm life. The fact that you walk through the one bedroom to the master bedroom can be a problem for privacy minded people. For parents with small children and "domestic" families who enjoy spending time together, it can be ideal again. Will definitely use the place again.
Great place for peace and quiet. Very nice view of the mountains. The "fire heated pool" was a winner.
The getaway was just what we needed.
Had a great time relaxing in a peaceful farm atmosphere with a lovely view. Authentic and very well furnished with everything needed. Affordable and good value for money. The hot tub was delicious! Would definitely recommend!
My wife, 7 week old baby and her family arrived on the Thursday afternoon. I would join them the next day. The rooms were very small. The ceiling was so low that my father in law bumped his head. It's very dark and not a lot of sunlight gets in. It was very hot and there's no air conditioning. We were aware of this, but I asked if we could swim in the dam when we made the booking. It's definitely not suitable for swimming. The photos are very misleading and it makes everything look bigger than it actually is. They wanted the whole amount paid before we arrived. We lost a lot of money because of this. The owner/manager also promised to send us a bottle of wine to apologise. We never heard from them. We had a really bad experience.
Nice quiet and nice view.
10 out of 10. Will definitely go back.
Excellent location. Beautifully restored. A place where one can rest, relax and enjoy nature.
Die Kloof is the ideal place to take a break from the busy city-life. Nicely situated with a beautiful view.
Very friendly welcome. The unit was neat and clean and well equipped. We had a very nice stay.
Great and good place to rest.
From the time we drove through the gates of the farm, until we had to say goodbye again, it was a wonderful experience. The cottage is clean, with fresh bedding and towels. The kitchen is very well equipped and the fireplace in it was an added bonus. Every night the young people stoked the fire in the outdoor Jacuzzi and reveled in the fiery hot water. We felt safe the whole time and could walk to our heart's content on the farm or explore the beautiful surroundings. This is the perfect place to find rest for your soul.
Everything was very clean and tidy. Despite the cold, the bedding was wonderfully warm and cuddly and with 2 heaters and the fireplaces we didn't get cold at all. The tub's outlet leaked and wet the entire floor, so we couldn't use it. But we really enjoyed our time there and would definitely recommend it.
Our family had a very nice holiday and thanks to suggestions from the hostess, we were able to try out nice activities in the Ceres area. We were hoping to get snow and Matroosberg did not disappoint.
So clean, neat little house with old-world charm! Wonderful down duvets for the cold!
Definitely a place to stop. Absolutely fantastic sitting on the porch in the late afternoon/early evening. Good for your soul. Top notch reception.
Great for summer but cold and dark in winter. The low ceiling and door frames might surprise taller people!
Loved the peace, serenity and scenery. Thank you!
Awesome host and place, loved to spend most nights resting in jazzuzi , sipping wine with jaw dropping views. Highly recommended to visit this place, second room is small and cramped. We improvised and made best out of our 2 nights stay there
We will certainly use them again. Very nice area with nice view over the Ceres valley.
We were kindly received and enjoyed 2 days in a neat, clean house. Very calm. Wonderful experience.
Definitely worth my money, everything was neat and the customer service was great. Just a phone call away. Will definitely recommend it to others. The view and farm was breathtaking. The outdoor shower is a must.
We enjoyed every moment. The place was so neat. Good reception. The outdoor shower was of course a plus.
Fantastic experience for city people to experience the tranquility of farm life. Ideal base from which to explore and experience the surrounding towns of Ceres, Tulbach, Wolsely and Prince Alfred's Hamlet. Many activities for young and old in the area.
We used Die Kloof as a base to get to know the surroundings such as the Agter-Witzenberg, the Koue-Bokkeveld and over the Katbakkies Pass and Skittery Pass into the Ceres-Karoo and back again over the Swaarmoed Pass and Ceres.
Although we were looking for accommodation near Tulbagh, Die Kloof was the only one available for 5 people at the time of our enquiries. We enjoyed our stay and will stay there again should the opportunity occurs. Thank you Isabel for assisting my parents when they locked themselves out of the house!
It was the very best ever!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights at Die Kloof - especially the "braai" place in the kitchen.
