It was an enriching experience for us to experience the silence and peace there, and to get to know Casper and Leenster as a close family, animals included, a little. The host and hostess are both very well-educated and literate, but down-to-earth people who do their best to make one's stay as pleasant as possible. We had a large private room, with a private bathroom right next to it (unfortunately no bath - just a shower). The room and bathroom are on the cool side of the house so quite cold in the winter, but we had an oil heater and lovely feather duvet to compensate. Keep in mind that this is a B&B stay, and that you are therefore sharing the house residents' residence with them and their beloved animals (and precious family photos). There were two incredibly calm Siamese cats, six small dogs and a very calm large Russian shepherd dog on the scene at all times, but they enriched our visit and never bothered us. The house and all the facilities are also really very clean and tidy, despite some of the animals' occasional presence in the house. A great treat over three cold nights was the fireplace in the large living room, delicious dishes, and truly exceptional cutlery and crockery for which Leenster as hostess is absolutely known. There was a good selection of cold drinks at reasonable prices available in the fridge, as well as a number of good quality bottles of wine. There was also the privilege and pleasure of bringing your own music CDs and sharing them in front of the fireplace with the people of the house. Another bonus for bookworms was a very nice selection of good quality magazines and interesting books at your disposal.

My wife and I decided we would spend our wedding anniversary at this lovely place. The houthuis is literally a very very large wood house. This instantly gives it a positive sense of difference to any other location. It is situated along the Crocodile River on a plot of land with a stunning grassy garden. Leenster is a formidable cook and I highly recommend you request additional meals if you do not feel like driving out. It is a very pet-friendly home with multiple dogs and cats (we love this) but I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Our dietary needs were sensitively catered for (we are vegetarian and my one daughter is vegan) - I cannot put into words how awesome this place is - unspoilt beauty so close to the bustling city.
