We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Truly, one of the nicest places I have stayed- and I travel a lot. The view from the stoep is unbelievable, and it is so peaceful! The host went through lots of effort to make our stay special! Many thanks.
So beautiful and peaceful. Dogs frolicked on the grass and in the river. Switched off and experienced nature!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Die Skoolhuisie. Peace and quiet and a beautiful retreat from the busy city life. The hospitality of the owner was exceptional, and nothing was too much for her to ensure that our stay was perfect. Although there was no cellphone or WiFi at Die Skoolhuisie, the owner allowed us to use her WiFi at the adjoining Pizza Place.
Off the grid. Enjoyed the donkey to make warm water. Indoor fireplace with wood provided was my favourite.
As long as you know that there is no electricity and cell phone signal, and that you have to make your hot water for showering & washing dishes with a donkey, this is the perfect getaway spot. Even for a business trip, this was the ideal place for me to spend the night. No amount of money can buy the view from the porch and the silence that comes with it. The Skoolhuisie has a lot of character and it's an experience to sleep over there.
John was there to show me around when I arrived and lit the donkey so I could have a hot shower. Quaint and simple, but great to get away from the hustle and bustle. Such an unusual lovely little place is Die Skoolhuisie and Prince Alfred Pass is beautiful to drive. The bathroom is separate, but the bedroom and kitchen are all one large room. Lovely fireplace inside for cold days/nights and a fireplace on the stoep with a good view.
Nostalgic. Prince Albert pass was a traumatic experience on its own. The Schoolhouse was the reward. Friendly reception, the donkey was already lit for hot water, wood chopped for a fire, solar lights in place and we could just pack up and relax. Die Skoolhuisie lacks nothing and can certainly recommend it to guests who are willing to forget about "luxuries" for a while. Thank you very much, "Die Skoolhuisie", we had a great stay.
The School House met our expectations. I was a little sick and couldn't enjoy the beautiful place as much as I would have liked. My husband really enjoyed sitting on the porch and making a fire. There are so many wonderful story books. I had to stay there for a month to be able to read everything. The double bed sleeps wonderfully. John is very friendly and showed us how als works. And tip: just don't expect to be able to take a hot bath or shower right away. The donkey must first be stoked for that. Real old world experience.
Quiet, comfortable accommodation within a historic space. Soul refreshing if you like to ground yourself.
It was a wonderful experience at Die Skoolhuisie, good location and view of the pass! Everything needed was there and the pool was welcome on a hot afternoon.
We used this as a stop over destination on a road trip to Sedgefield from Johannesburg. Die Skoolhuisie is the perfect location to stay over for anyone wanting to experience the scenic drive of the Prince Alfred pass. Totally off grid, peaceful and comfortable.
Amazing place just deep history and amazing view. The fit is beautiful.
Lovely location and view.
If you really want to recharge your batteries this is the place. It's very quiet, peaceful and safe, time stands still here.
