71 guests' feedbackHad a wonderful stay. That much privacy is rare. Had a nice walk, cycled a bit, tried fishing a lot (not very successfully), but dam very close. Teenager enjoyed the nature. WiFi was also a big plus!
Very nice to go for a walk, be quiet, barbecue and get away from the noise, nice villages to visit in the area.
The peace and tranquillity is very good for the soul. I loved swimming in the dam and taking walks under the mountain. Diesel, the farm dog was a regular companion if you allow him to visit. Lenie was a wonderful hostess. There was nothing I needed to ask for. The cottage is cosy and rustic - matches perfectly with the setting. I will definitely return.
We really had a great time. It made me long for my growing up days on the farm. Our hostess was very nice and informed us about the location and how things worked in a timely manner. There was up to battery power in the "load shedding" time. The kitchen was so cozy, we had a great time around the table with the view of the pond. Thank you very much, Lenie, for the nice visit, I hope we will be back soon. Oh yes, I almost forgot about the dear Diesel. This dog has the heart of a lion, he looked after us as if we were his owner. We enjoyed him terribly. He goes for walks with us and in the evenings he goes to do his inspections around the house. Too cute.
This is a beautiful place to break away from the city. It is well-equipped and gives you the tranquillity you need.
Difficult to describe the tranquility and silence. One "hears" the silence. Night sounds nice to listen to. See the firmament clearly at night. Place is located in such a way that various attractions are around, many places to see. All facilities needed are available in the house, as well as outside. Will definitely go again.
We had a wonderful stay in Uilhuisie. Diesel the friendly staffie comes to visit us every evening. Shower-over-bath's hot water was deliciously hot. Path was a bit rough after a lot of rain. It was very cold weather. Only possible complaint would be to have an extra blanket there. Luckily we had our own fleece blankets. It was flower viewing time and there were quite a few flowers behind the house.
The house is located at the top of the mountain and you have lovely views of the farm and farm pond. It's peaceful but not suitable for young children (no grass area and small porch). Note that although there is 'Netflix' on the TV, you must use your own account to subscribe.
We had a great time and really enjoyed the silence. View and scenery are amazing! The children enjoyed the pond so much and the cute dogs that came to visit every day were the cherry on the cake. Thank you for an unforgettable break!
Uilhuisie met my expectations and was suitable in preparation for my bike tour through the Karoo.
Had the best time ever! Perfect little rustic joy to get away from it all with all the comfort you need. Beautiful nature views and sounds with the luxury of electricity and WiFi during loadshedding. Thank you for a great time.

Absolutely had the best holiday ever cutting out from the city life. Didn't see one soul around us, very quiet but safe in a property with the main house nearby. Little black Staffie (Diesel) and his other sausage dog came to visit us from time to time. There is a dam, not suitable for swimming while we were there. The carport didn't have a cover (not like the photo), so in summer it can be very hot to braai in the afternoon. Don't expect 5 stars, it's a farm hut, but it has everything that you need, just don't get scared by the gecko. Regardless, this is still a nice place, we will definitely come back again.
The dam is amazing for viewing sunsets and also for a row in a boat. Suggestion: please provide two pillows per person for sleeping - will make it more comfortable.

It's the ideal getaway spot for peace and quiet. The mountain, valley and pond view is beautiful. The bedside lights, each with its own USB to charge a phone, are an absolute bonus.
Netflix. Wi-Fi. Nice big pond to swim in. Restful.

Kids loved it. Scenery is fantastic and house is well suited for a weekend of braai, walks, fishing and swimming. Loved the friendly geckos. Rustic atmosphere and relaxing ambiance, clean and has just what one needs. Could suggest a fly screen on the windows and warm in summer - perfect for the dam.
Love the dogs, Diesel and Trompie. Fishing in the dam was very enjoyable. Open night skies, and the quiet of nature. Only negative, not the best of showers, struggled to get a comfortable water temprature, was better to bath.
Was very pleasant and peaceful. Best views. The owners made us feel welcome. The shower that constantly goes from cold to blazing hot and vice versa only frustrates us.
Lovely cottage. We took a while to settle in because of the heat during the summer months but having a dip in the nearby dam kept us refreshed over the period of our stay. The views are stunning and it is peaceful and quiet. One should be okay with being very close to nature as you will see insects, lizards and tiny animals roaming around your cottage. We welcomed the opportunity to be this close to nature with our 2 year old daughter. We loved every moment of it!
I would just suggest, look at the road that goes to Uilhuisie please. Also make sure that all the holes are closed at the house. We had many friends who came to visit us. Especially at night.

Such a cute place, everything you need, a nice braai on the stoep overlooking the most beautiful view. The grill is a bit on the done side but at least it did its job. Very neat and clean and cutely furnished and decorated. Good place for stargazing. We will be back.
We could go hiking and fishing and barbeque, the house is cozy and everything you need is already there, it was a nice break. The view is stunning and so are sunrise and sunset.
Everything was enjoyable. The only suggestion I offer is to possibly include a toaster. Some of us oldies enjoy our toast in the morning. Otherwise all was good. I would love to do it again.

The location is picturesque. The cottage is very close to the mountain, with a view over the pond and farm landscape. The cottage has a lot of character, with thick walls, a large fireplace/fireplace and antique furniture. We were welcomed with a nice tin of biscuits. The stars at night are incredibly beautiful. There were gas plates but no matches or lighter. The one faucet in the bathroom could not be opened. The tub leaks when the water line reaches the drain outlet. There are only sheets on the single beds. There was only one towel available. The kitchen sink only has a cold tap. The fridge froze our food.
My stay at the Uilhuisie was exactly what I was hoping for and it just as advertised on this site. The huisie itself is a lovely little rustic cottage, very quiet and secluded with lots of interesting bird and insect life. The owners are also very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely visit again.
There's nothing quite like a break from ales and by the pond. We had exceptionally nice weather. Lucky and Trompie showed us around the farm properly as we walked to discover more ponds. Important: Put salt and pepper on the list.

Fireplace in kitchen is fantastic in our cold winter! Would love to stay there again.
Definitely a nice place to relax if you want to get away to where nobody and nothing can bother you. The nature is picturesque and every sunset left us gasping for breath. The owners are friendly and we felt welcome upon our arrival. We will definitely visit again if we need to recharge our batteries.

Die Uilhuisie is a must-see for anyone living in or visiting South Africa. Perfect for an intimate getaway, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, the most stunning sunset and sunrise, with beautiful views of the moon rising over the mountains. Will definitely be back again! The hosts are friendly and helpful, but also won't bother you if you're looking for some privacy.
It is an excellent relaxing environment. Without boasting, in nature. When you are looking for something simplistic this is your place. Golden faucets do not always give comfort. Nice view.
This house is full of character and neat and Lenie welcomed us warmly. The fireplace was burning the whole weekend, because it was raining. The farmers market in town is a must-visit on a Saturday morning. Quiet, peaceful and friendly. Will definitely sleep over again.
This is just what we were looking for. We could rest well, no one bothering you. Could clear your head. We will visit there again and sit quietly in front of the fire and relax. No TV, no nothing, just me and my husband.
Our stay at Uilhuisie was fantastic. The silence under the mountain was fantastic. My children thoroughly enjoyed the pond and in the evenings the night sky was close by and the conversation around the fire was a highlight. We were next to the pond in the hottest part of the day when Lenie, the hostess arrived with delicious ice cold watermelon. The watermelon didn't last long. I will gladly return to Die Uilhuisie.
It was just what my son and I needed, to move around a farm yard again and discover, The beauty of nature, birds singing, to an owl. Nice place to be a child. Walking, cycling. Will visit again. The accommodation is basic, but enough. Everything you need is there. Just food, clothes and a good book is all you need.

Would really like to stay longer to climb the mountain. A proposition be such that there would be a bundle of wood available. The water was so slightly cold. But the rest very hot. Especially the dogs!

The Uilhuisie was perfect for our family's needs - mother and father and four-year-old boy. The place was clean and not once did we feel unsafe. The hostess, Lenie, was excellent - especially when our car broke down on the way there. She let us know not to stress and sent messages all the time to see how we were progressing. She even put out an extra trampoline for my son - he thoroughly enjoyed it. For him, the trampoline and the 'weekend dog' were the highlight of the weekend. We will definitely stop at the Uilhuisie again.
The house is comfortable and without any frills, the view is beautiful and the people are friendly and go out of their way to help you. Uilhuisie is a great base for exploring the surrounding area.
We enjoyed our stay. It was difficult to sleep in the bedroom when the wind was blowing strongly - there was a lot of noise with the roof panels. The manager was very friendly and helpful and made an effort to sort out problems. I feel R500 per night is too much for the simplicity of facilities and small space of the house. I also think the house should be cleaner on arrival. Our favorite activity was swimming in the lovely water of the pond while the children played with pond clay. The view is incredible.
Hot water is very scarce. Put the braai on the other side of the house, so that it is closer to the entrance. It was awesome. We come again.
