78 guests' feedbackYes. Excellent place. Very nice chat with Johannes. Very nice, clean and tidy room. Beautiful view of Magoebaskloof.
Very nice location and very clean. Had a friendly reception.
So literally just slept there. But the sleeping facilities were great, clean and very comfortable. We were also welcomed with fresh farm eggs from the chicken coop which were very cute and nice.
We stayed over for one night in order to attend a wedding in the area. The cottage was beautiful, clean, and perfect for our stay. The staff are friendly. Thank you Johannes and Maria for all your trouble and for the lovely eggs and avos . It is really a beautiful and well-kept place. We would like to visit the lodge again.
Enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the beautiful views.
Location is fantastic. Our two-bedroom chalet is bitterly disappointing. The sink in the bathroom is detached from the wall, and there is only lukewarm water. Curtains are full of marks and do not hang well at all. Beds are cleanly covered and in good condition. The place is in urgent need of maintenance.
Will not stay there again. Nothing special.
Cottage in need of some TLC - no light in bathroom, main bedroom's chest of drawers broken, lukewarm bathwater, 5 km dirt road to house is in poor state.
The reception and place were wonderful. The most beautiful view. People very friendly and helpful. Would recommend to anyone.
Perfect for large group that includes grandparents, teenager, baby and everything in between. Manager goes out of his way to make guests' wishes come true. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Very friendly staff. But unfortunately no power.
We would have liked to know if we were able to use the common areas and pool table. The frogs and dogs kept us awake the first night, but was better the second night. Loadshedding was annoying, but they have some battery light bulbs that made the darkness manageable. I think the venue was value for money, and we will definitely go back if we in the area again. Thanks.
Accommodation was neat and clean, but some maintenance would be good. Garden is very nice and tidy, and swimming pool is spotless. Very nice views of valley. Not necessarily suitable for busy toddlers. Very quiet and beautiful surroundings. Dirt road to lodge not the best.
The explanation to the lodge is incorrect. You don't drive through the village of Haenertsburg, but you do drive past the village.
Then eventually a worker in an overall and headscarf came walking up the driveway. First screamed at us for parking in the wrong parking bay. Note - the parking bays are not clearly marked and it is very difficult to see where to park. Even another guest just shook his head and commented that Diggersrest must mark the parking bays adequately. Also - no shower in the unit we stayed in. Only a bath. Also told by the same worker that we must not fill the bath too much (bathroom in loft area) as it leaks through the ceiling onto the dining room table below. Really! Then there was a dog barking practically the whole night and chickens waking us up at 03:00 am in the morning. There was also no one to help with all our luggage. The stairs going up to the bedroom loft area is a nightmare, and very very dangerous. Very narrow. Very steep. Very difficult to lug your heavy suitcases upstairs. Not for the elderly, not for small children either. Actually not for anyone.
Not at all in reality as represented in photos.
Good location, quiet break from city hustle and bustle.
We were 3 families with primary school children. The units are beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Nice lawn where the children could play. I can definitely recommend it!
In season the road is a bit bad, and maybe a bigger sign for directions if you enter from the main road, currently just Ebenezer, but a nice sign showing Diggers Rest would be good.
Very nice, tidy and enough space for a nice visit.
Pretty and clean cottage with gas stove, perfect for when power outages hit. Friendly staff received us well with good service. Stairs are quite steep to the second level where sleeping quarters are, thus perfect for hikers. Had a lovely stay and will stay there again.
The cottage we stayed in was very cozy. A real doll's house. The view is something out of a fairy tale - picture perfect. The slightly washed out road definitely made for some excitement as we were traveling there in a flat car that doesn't have 4x4. The cottage was well equipped, clean and tidy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Because it's in the forest, I will just say that you just have to be careful of all kinds of funny bugs that seek shelter and will come through an open door or window and maybe just surprise you and give you a slight near heart attack when you find them unexpectedly.
Well located, neat, beautiful gardens with neat accommodation. Might pay attention to one or two more pointers.
We were very happy with our weekend at Diggersrest. The unit was big and cute, and it was clean. Beds were also great. The only downside was that our unit did not have a shower (only a tub) and that the stairs were quite steep to our particular unit.
It's a beautiful location and friendly host and staff but there were no towels on arrival as the tumble dryer was broken and the main bed was very narrow and sagged in the middle making it quite uncomfortable. There was also no bathmat. But overall great value for money and a beautiful spot.
I have mentioned more than once that we are a young couple accompanying a group of old people. One of the elderly had to sleep on the couch, because the beds are on the top level.
Everything we needed was there. Place is neat and clean.
The entrance to the accommodation has rubbish bags heaped in a pile under the tree, really off putting! There is building material in the way of entering the pool area from the car. The dog is gorgeous but she barked 4 nights out of the 7 we were there. Nonstop! I tried getting hold of the manager, Franz, and he didn't take calls or respond to my SMS. There was no one to manage other visitors who blasted music in the room next door until 1 in the morning. Hardly the peaceful Magoebaskloof holiday we had in mind.
Net bietjie gesukkel met kontak. Niemand om te help. Noodnommer werk nie. Nie krag gehad met tye. Gasgeiser gesukkel.
The location is beautiful. Just remember that access is a dirt road, and when it rains it can take a long time to get to the tarmac, even though it seems like a short distance from Haenertsburg. My experience is only about the part we stayed in, the other parts may be different. The cottage is advertised with a view - yes it does, but only if you are outside the cottage. The sheets were clean and mattresses firm. The house was tidy, but the curtains in the kitchen had probably not been washed in 30 years. The place needs new window frames and door frames. Nothing closes decently. The taps in the kitchen and bathroom are loose, and if you flush the toilet it pushes up and doesn't flush away. Maria, who keeps the place clean, then arranged for us to use the shower and toilet in the unit next door. The swimming pool is sparkling clean and beautifully situated, but again there is no place/chairs for guests of the cottage to sit and enjoy. It seems that the sitting area around the pool is more for guests of the big house, because the seating and chairs were on their side.
Due to the heavy rain, we were without power for almost 3 days. The standby generator did not want to work after we had to go and buy petrol ourselves. Staff were not helpful at all. One unit flooded and we dried ourselves while staff watched. Units were never cleaned. The resort is in urgent need of maintenance. Faucets in kitchen of cottage were loose. Roofs leak. Soap dispensers in bathroom were empty. Pool table's felt is sanded. In sympathy with the resort manager who passed away shortly before our arrival, we feel that the staff on duty did nothing to assist us.
We stayed in the "Cottage with a view" and what a breathtaking view it was. One can see as far as the mountain stretches and hear every bird whistle. One can really find peace by sitting at the cottage's social area with a warm fire over which the meat is roasting and a drink in hand. Unfortunately, there is not much for children to do, apart from the pool which will keep them busy in the summer months.
Friendly welcome. Tidy! Slept very well.
Lovely views and gardens. Comfortable rooms. Make sure to take a lot of firewood in the cold months. Lovely bath and hot water, except for during the unfortunate power outage the day after our arrival.
We were very comfortable in the room allocated to us except that the people on the floor above were rather noisy and that noise came down to us as if people were trampling on floorboards. They had to move early so we had to wake up 'with them' because of the noise.
We had a nice stay but the description of the unit is wrong. There is not a bath and a shower, just a bathtub. I was there with my father who is old and had trouble bathing. I asked if we could use other shower facilities, but neither the owner nor the boy who is the emergency contact person answered.
We were not welcomed by owner. After the time he came to meet us and immediately let us know that the unit is only for 2. To which I referred him to our e-mail communication. The place was broken. Window was broken in bathroom and lady immediately told us not to tamper anything there. You can hear everything people next to you are doing. There were people coming in on Saturday who made terrible noise all evening. Couldn't sleep. Thought it was about tranquility. No personal touch in places. Can see it's just about who pays and fills up space. Make no effort to put people at ease. There were 2 doors in our room that connect to other units. The bathroom door was almost ripped off first night to see if they could get in there. One can peek through key holes. Plekkie will not see me again.
See stars.
Very nice location and beautiful views. Very good WiFi which makes it ideal if you have to work.
It was good value for money.
We stayed in the two-bedroom cottage and had a wonderful time. We were happy with everything! We swam, mountain biked and enjoyed a braai in a wonderful and private garden overlooking the mountains. We have booked again for April.
Very friendly staff, fantastic views and everything one might need. Will only want to stay longer next time.
Will most definitely revisit!
Units very comfortable and tidy. Lovely pool and view.
Very nice and neat and we had a good time.
Beside the leaking bathroom tap, blocked drains in the bathroom and a noisy ceiling caused by patrons staying above us, our stay was enjoyable. Luckily for the family staying in the other wing in an awesome 2 bedroom apartment where we shared access to a wash-up basin for crockery and cutlery as well as a decent size fridge to accommodate all our perishables bought at the Berry Festival. I will however stay their again and pay more for utilities as our accommodation was purely more for a stay-over rather than a weekend. We enquired about breakfast on arrival, but to no avail. I was told to contact the owner that was currently in Gauteng. Although there was no DStv or amenities such as Wi-Fi, it would have been appreciated. Further more the place is beautiful as is the views. The swimming pool is awesome and surroundings are stunning. Hopefully my next stay there will be in the Garden Cottage.
Access road a nightmare. No DStv. Power interruptions often.
We enjoyed the place a lot and had a good time. Thank you very much for the hospitality.
Everything was perfect. The location is excellent with beautiful views over the valley. The gardens are very beautiful and neatly kept, and the rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished. This is for sure a "come back" place!
Lovely place, peaceful, quiet, great hospitality from the owners and the lady at the lodge. Just be ready for the gravel road leading to the lodge, but all in all, I enjoyed my stay.
It was one of the best places I've ever stayed at. The view of the valley, the hospitality, the cleanliness of the cottage was fantastic.
A very peaceful stay hidden far from the main road. Rooms are well appointed and staff very friendly and helpful.
Beautiful surroundings. Most beautiful garden and lovely swimming pool with nice view. Hospitably received and good service. Nice clean and well maintained.

Diggersrest Lodge is a rare find for us. We live in the area and never knew about this lodge. It is a fantastic lodge with spectacular views. Everything was fantastic.
I expected more from this place. Beautiful pool and view. Nice board games. Kitchen well equipped - no large glasses. The master bedroom is very nice, you can't tell from the photos that the Cottage is not even a meter from the main house, although it is classed as a stand alone unit it is not all alone and private. We were alone on site for a very long period of time throughout the evening, no live-in staff, no people in the main house, no other people in the other units. The location of the place is quite dark in the evening and felt unsafe. The Cozy Cottage shows that it has a shower and a bath, but there is only a bath with a hand shower (it cannot be classified as a shower). There are much better places in the Magoebaskloof area that are better value for money. Although this place shows it is located in Goerge's Valley on the website, the people from Diggersrest let us know that we only have to drive around Magboebaskloof.
Very nice place in a very nice area.
Even with the weather not quite cooperating, it was memorable.
Lovely place in nature to rest and close to attractions.
A wonderful stay at Diggers rest, the apartment is incredibly neat and nicely furnished. The view is breathtaking! We will definitely visit there again!
Accommodation was very pleasant. The friendly reception and friendliness throughout made us feel at home. It was a fantastic couple of days.
The views were unrivalled, the accommodation was excellent (although some small details need attention in places), the domestic staff - Maria and Wellington (the only staff we met the whole time) - were friendly courteous and extremely helpful. We were sad not to meet our hosts but found them very accommodating of our requests.
Beautiful, neat, clean. Road is a bit difficult to travel on. Supper would have been nice?
If you need a breakaway this is the ideal spot. The views are breathtaking! The chalet was adorable. If I have to add something: Just a little bar of soap in the bathroom for those who forgot to bring any. And just before guests arrive, maybe a small bottle of water for each guest.
Only slept one night. Very clean and tidy and if you like tranquility it is perfect. The environment is very beautiful. Very nice stay.
We visited the sights and also had a leisurely drive. There is so much to visit including Heanertsburg.
Neat and very pretty, clean rooms.
The area looks like a fairytale.
Freya, the german sheppard, is a very good host.
In between green hills, with a magnificent view overlooking a beautifully kept garden down into the valley, there's the place where Diggersrest is situated. We rented the small house next to the main house. It's like a little fairy-tale house. Very cosy. What can I say: we just had a wonderful night there.
Just the right place to recharge your batteries in this busy life, The owners are extremely friendly and are doing everything possible to give you the perfect stay. Beautiful environment to bring tranquillity to your soul, spirit and body. Facilities are very tasteful and well equipped. The only "negative" is the road and the directions. Otherwise, perfect. We will definitely visit again soon. This time a bit longer.
Really enjoyed it. Host even turned on the lights for us in the evening when we came in late. Kept us updated with Whatsapp if there were power outages. Until the TV comes to set us after hours. Tastefully furnished - needed nothing. Will want to visit again.
It was very relaxing and the view was breathtaking. My little boy was in awe and we enjoyed every moment. Will definitely visit the place again.
Comfortable stay with a very friendly host. The kitchen lacks plastic containers and an ovenproof container.
We were very pleasantly surprised by Diggersrest. The cottage was very neat and well furnished with beautiful gardens. Diggersrest is also well located with plenty to do in the immediate area.
Master bedroom a little tidy and lacks adequate wardrobes. Second bedroom nice and spacious. Cutlery is of good quality. Living room furniture is not very comfortable.
