Beautiful old house that has been very neatly converted into a guest house. We often sleep here on the way back from the Cape. Bonus: The guest house is right opposite the police station. It is very neat and clean with very friendly staff.

We arrived late and the hostess was still available. She moved us to a more comfortable room with an en suite bathroom which we were very happy about.
We could only confirm on the day of our overnight stay, but Suene (manager) responded immediately and gave all the necessary information to get there and clock in after hours. She stayed up to still receive us and gave us all the information to leave early again the next morning. The rooms were very clean and tastefully furnished. We felt safe with all the security measures they had there (and also that it is located next to the police station). We would highly recommend the guest house anytime for overnight stays for long distance travelers. Thank you very much, Suene!
Upon arrival I was seriously ill and the people from the guest house took me to the hospital and made sure my family knew every step of what was going on. Without them I might not have made it! Thank you very much, you are lifesavers! Thank you for the bedding and food you brought to the hospital. Real people man!
Our stay was an overnight sleep, a halfway stop from Cape Town to Johannesburg. The guesthouse had everything we needed, and we had a comfortable stay. The unit was clean and ready when we got there, and the manager was friendly and helpful. It is a great guesthouse to stopover for the night and rest.

The rooms were noisy and you couldn't walk around without waking up the whole block. The shower curtain did not close nicely, so it was wet everywhere once I was done, and there was little to no hot water. The hostess was more interested in my fiancé than in showing me to my room. And I was placed in a very dodgy place in Colesburg. Didn't feel very safe there.
Not at all, the room reeked of smoke. It was horrible and the bed was so hard.

Eating places can all be recommended - we ate very good pizza at Allesera. Shower door has trouble closing/opening. Might want to warn prospective guests that access to room 12 may be difficult for older guests due to the outside stairs.

It was a stopover for us on our way to Cape Town. Loved the rooms. Very welcoming reception. Felt even safer as it's near the police station.
We were booked in a room without a bathroom. When she saw we were 3 people, she "upgraded" us to an en suite room for free. Very clean with good mattresses and with everything a person traveling needs when staying over.
We used Donalds Guesthouse for a "halfway stop" on the way to Paarl. Was a lovely room with a clean bathroom. We drove again early in the morning and the arrangements for the early departure were easy. I will definitely spend the night there again in the future on my way to the Cape.

The rooms were neat and we liked the antiques. Maybe the outside of the building could be renovated with a coat of paint and the garden could be given a little more attention. The place was not really the type of accommodation I would use again. The communal kitchen made it feel like a very upper-class backpackers. The room was beautiful, clean, and neat, and the atmosphere lovely, antique, and quaint, which I like. However, the coffee and coffee creamer (no fresh milk) were not what I would expect, but again, the price should have been my warning. The shower door was loose and came off when you tried to close it. Personally, I won't stay there again if I have a choice, but it was good enough for a place to sleep, and I would use them again if I struggle to find other options. You do get what you pay for.

Room needs to be upgraded.
The room is supposed to be self-catering. There is only a kettle with 2 glasses, 2 mugs, coffee, tea, creamer and sugar in the room. There is no microwave and small fridge. We arrived about an hour and a half before loadshedding was to begin. There is no extra lighting provided to us. Not even a candle. When we left, we had to unlock the gate. My wife had to walk all the way back to the room to put the key under the mat. Couldn't there be a holder at the gate to put the keys in? This is extremely unsatisfactory! Therefore, I do not recommend this accommodation.
We had usual load shedding plus further power cut for long periods. The owner can feel free to invest in rechargeable light bulbs to light up the room in the evening. Sitting in the dark for 3.5 hours is not pleasant.
Stay was pleasant enough but attention to detail is required. Shower was not clean, one bed noisily creaks at the least movement, door lock malfunctioned locking us out, forcing access through the window.
We had to wait for the agent to open up even though she had our arrival time beforehand. The room was not aired and smelled of urine.

Donalds Guesthouse is good enough for an overnight stay, if you want to stay longer I would recommend making sure there is a fridge and aircon facilities because in the unit we stayed in there was no fridge. And this at a hot time of the year. Was disappointed with that as the place itself is very hot and with loadshedding the fan doesn't work at all. Windows also could not open so not intended for long term stay. There is talk of wifi but there is nothing in the unit?

Was very kindly received and taken to our room and also shown all the amenities in the kitchen. The room was nice and spacious, the double bed's mattress was comfortable for us two elderly people. Just a pity our boiler was broken, but Suane apologized profusely. We just used the microwave in the kitchen to boil water for coffee. A farmer makes a plan, doesn't he!

Despite the fact that Eskom only gave us electricity for an hour and a half during our stay, we slept soundly and the room had everything we needed. Will definitely stay at Donalds again if we are in the area.

The guest house has a fully equipped kitchen with freezers for guests who want to keep things frozen. The mattresses in Room 2 (4 beds) need to be replaced. We previously slept in Room 9 and those mattresses were in excellent condition, so the poor mattresses may be limited to Room 2. The older home needs paint on the outside.

Only problem was their Pitbull terrier who walked in front of my 88 year old mother. And the young man who checked us in just stood and watched. Only after we asked to please taking the dog aside he did so.
It's a beautiful place but I don't like the cracked floor and the old fashioned doors. Parking was also a problem because you can park next to each other then everyone is bothered about this matter early in the morning. The place gives off a spooky atmosphere.

We were also in Donalds Guesthouse in March 2019 and then afterwards complained in a review about a very dirty kitchen and poor customer service. But we wanted to give this B&B a second chance and so we recently stayed here again on our way to Cape Town. And this time the kitchen was very clean and tidy. Everything is very clearly arranged. And the service was equally good, fast and friendly. We only have one more piece of advice: the owner should ask a friend who is a bit handy to go through all the rooms at once and fix small things. Like in the room we stayed in the little handle of the bathroom door that hung completely loose; And the way the bathroom sink is attached to the wall. It doesn't have to cost a lot of money and will make the overnight stay in Donalds Guesthouse even more attractive.
All disappointment was that there was no water at all on the morning of our departure. We fell in the road very early and couldn't even report it to the driver.

A++ for the lady who received us. She will go an extra mile. The place was dirty. My bedding was stained and wrinkled. I am convinced it was not washed. Toilet made noise all night. They must have been aware of the problem because the toilet bowl was tilted down when we arrived. The whole place is neglected and the kitchen could be a good location for a thriller movie. The wet shower goddess, which has seen better days, constantly sucks against your body while you shower. The longest night of my life.
Bathroom light didn't work at first. There is a TV, but it doesn't work. There are too many steps that are different sizes can be a hazard for old people. The car gate is not properly in place and can cause damage to a car. The bed and shower were 10 out of 10.
The TV only has 4 channels (SABC 1,2,3 and E-TV). Us in room no 13.
The room did not smell good at all, as if fresh air never came in. The towels stank so much that you were disgusted with yourself after you dried off with them. There are lots of small things that were broken, bedside lamp shades are loose, soap dish in shower is loose, so your soap falls on the floor all the time. The bathroom door handle is also loose. The secure parking lot is not as secure as you would hope because the gate's lock cannot close properly. So anyone can open the gate, even without a key.
Wouldn't recommend anyone. Beds are very bad, not comfortable at all. Bathroom needs to be upgraded and cleaned throughly. Nothing to say.
Insufficient parking facilities on the premises. People were being parked in. Had to locate the owners to have vehicles moved to get out. Parking is not marked. The TV in the room is the size of a matchbox and does not work. Wifi can only be accessed outside the building. We asked about this and were told "that's how it is". There is one two point plug in the room which is for the fan. Take your own with if you want to charge anything. The shower was hand held as the clip on the wall was broken. The curtain rail in the bathroom was broken. There are no complimentary soaps, shampoo or anything like that. First guesthouse i have ever been to, that doesn't have that. There is no jug for water in your room. You need to walk to the kitchen to get water. The property itself is beautiful but in desperate need of maintenance.
Even though it was clean, there were spiders and cockroaches in the bathroom and lots of mosquitoes.

I enjoyed an excellent stopover in Colesberg while driving between JHB and George with my dad. This is a super old building dating back to the 1830s! Location is great for a quick walk to restaurants for dinner, the bed was perfect for me (nice and firm) and shower had good spray and heat. My room was a good size too and very clean. There are tea/coffee items in the room with a kettle and rusks were offered too. I'll definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed a good night's rest in a beautiful room with fine linen. I would recommend a winter sheet in the winter seeing as how it was bitterly cold and I was also thankful for my dressing gown! The hot shower was lovely. Good premier coffee like Nescafe/Jacobs/Douwe Egberts will ensure a five-star rating. I will visit there again.
Everything was very tidy, the reception was friendly and parking space 1 for our trailer with furniture safe. We would recommend the accommodation.

But it is usually more expensive.

There would have been 2 overnight visits at Donalds Guesthouse, 7 days apart, but then only 1 night stay due to travel complications on our way back to GP. We had fun going hill climbing near the guest house and police station, lovely!

The visit was very nice. The room was very neat and cozy. Although no one was in the office to help us, they were very helpful over the cell phone. No one bothered us and we could rest comfortably for our journey ahead.

My only suggestion is to separate people who drive early in the morning from guests who don't check in until 12 o'clock in the evening. My sleep is very disturbed by talking, TV and footsteps. Otherwise it was 100%.

Two persons in a room, only 3 pieces of biscuit. Creamer for the coffee, for the price the owner could definitely look at fresh milk or pods as an option. The mattress in Room 10 is uncomfortable, falling inwards. Time to replace.
We were booked in rooms 7 and 8. The morning of our departure we were stranded in the dark before 6 o'clock when the power to both rooms went out. We thought it was a power outage, but the rest of the building's lights were on. We have a suspicion it was the boiler or heater in room 7 that knocked out the power in both rooms.
Ansie received us warmly and helped us to feel right at home.

Overall, it's not bad at all. I would just say the way to the laundry lines should not be through Room 11. The check-in time must be earlier. I wish guesthouses that offer TV and WiFi would aim a little higher. SABC and eTV are not offered. WiFi should run smoothly. Otherwise neat and not too bad.
Some staff themselves did not comply with the Covid rules and also there is no application of Covid rules in the common areas such as for example on the verandas, etc. There was only lukewarm hot water at 19:30 and we had to wait for the water to warm up.

Our accommodation was a bit small for 2 people, but otherwise it was tidy, safe, peaceful, quiet, and the perfect overnight stop between Johannesburg and the Garden Route.
Make sure you get there in daylight to gain access.
Wasn't aware of our arrival or if we did pay. For self-catering, there wasn't even a table or even a microwave to heat something up.
Their customer service was a little awkward and confusing, but once they were ready to actually show us the room, it was very pleasant. Cute small rooms, lovely communal kitchen and nice outdoor area.
The wooden floors are beautiful. It makes a lot of noise when other visitors pass by in the corridor.
We slept well and showered, but I just feel the WiFi never worked well and in the morning when we had to drive there was load shedding and not even a little boiling water for a little coffee. The guest house manager could really only boil some water for the guests on a gas stove before they hit the road, we all have gas stoves in our homes these days. It's not an excuse.
A bit expensive for what you get and the mattress in Room 10 needs urgent attention.
Room just big enough for a double bed. Not much more space than that.
Look, I understand that this is just a stopover. But on reception the man was sitting on his phone and video chatting with someone. Struggling to get our name on a paper. And when we took to the room. Inside the room it was neat. But there was a bench that was broken that they know about which my 1 year old found very interesting. The thing had spikes sticking out. Broken glass for the bedside table next to the double bed where the lamp stands. And in the bathroom there is nowhere to put anything down. If you use the bath, you can't put your soap and things down anywhere. The curtain in the bathroom does not close properly, so you can look directly into our bathroom from the street. And finishing the place is only big and partly half done. I know it's not the most expensive place to sleep, but I've had much better for the same price range. And I won't go back again.
I would like to have WiFi connection immediately and not ask for it. Gate opening is open for anyone to enter and the location not very good. I was alone and didn't feel safe. Rooms and TV could really use some upgrading.
Thanks for that. Unfortunately, the room lacks attention. There were ants everywhere, on the floor and in the coffee and tea rack everywhere. The wooden floors had many small black bugs, climbing up to the bed. The shower's glass door is completely loose and almost fell on me when I touched it. There was no hot water either. The shower's water didn't run out, you stand in the water while you shower. The fan worked but really at mercy and it's hot, no aircon. The linen and bedding and towels were clean, thank you. The wifi code was given to us but did not work. It rained very heavily that night and the wooden door has a large opening at the bottom and the rain almost poured in. Overall a little sprucing up would be good.
The best thing about the place is the rate - I don't want to knock the place down, but I'd rather pay double for better convenience and quality.

It feels like I am a child again in my grandmother and grandfather's farmhouse. The plank floor - when we were children we enjoyed the creak and noise under our feet so much. Basic but comfortable and clean rooms. Plenty of safe parking, convenient and quiet. The well-appointed communal kitchen, dining area and lounge in the old house came as a surprise and would be very handy for groups or families.

After a long day on the road it was nice to unpack and relax at Donalds Gastehuis. The beautiful stone house made me long back to my young days on our farm. The authentic farmhouse in the town was very centrally located and very well furnished with everything you could need, so neat and clean and Ansie is a wonderful hostess. We traveled with our 3 dogs from Gauteng to the Western Cape. The guesthouse owners were very nice and upgraded us to a bigger (more expensive) room for free to make it more comfortable for us and the dogs. The gate was locked all night and our car was safe. Donalds guest house is under new management. The whole place has been upgraded, rooms are neat, brightly lit, kitchen is well equipped if you want to prepare small meals yourself. Safe area with enough parking, and enough rooms if you need a place at the last minute. House is an ancient work of art with a real Karoo atmosphere.

Directions start at the airport. We travel by car so it is difficult to use. For future intake of the elderly, quite a few holding places would e.g. the shower and bathroom and toilet. Maybe with booking the ages also ask. These are only suggestions and not criticism. Donalds Guest House is a beautiful old house. Good luck going forward.

At least TVs can be replaced, we couldn't watch TV at all. The bath in room 8 is very very smooth for showering, it would only help if a suction mat could be placed in the bath.

Surroundings and location of guest house is within walking distance of restaurants. We arrived at the guest house at 15:50. Called hostess to let her know we had arrived. Unfit, she informs them that they only receive guests from 16:00. We are informed breakfast will be served next morning at 9 o'clock. For traveler it is too late. Between 6 and 7 would be acceptable. Arrival 29th, inquiry to hostess regarding time of breakfast was unanswered. Had to call her, was informed no breakfast was served. It's a disappointment. Just be careful. I would recommend Donalds, just make 100% sure with booking that breakfast is served as a rule. Our next overnight stay in Colesberg will be at a guest house that usually serves a friendlier reception and breakfast.
We were looking for a peaceful sleep on our way to Plett but unfortunately it was not what we got. We had a group of revelers braaing and drinking until 1:30 in the morning right outside our room. Unfortunately management weren’t able to control them. This, with uncomfortable beds made it an unpleasant stay.

We only stayed one night at Donald's. The room and bathroom are clean and tidy. The bed is very comfortable. We also had our two dogs with us. The staff gave us a room that was comfortable for us and the dogs.
We came in at noon. Our room was ready. Clean and bed was comfortable. Clean towels were on the bed. There is a shared kitchen available if you want to make your own food. Adequate parking. Right across the police station. Plus point for safety. 3 restaurants within walking distance. If you want to enjoy a cold beer after your trip, it is best to get your own. The places to visit are quite lame and dilapidated. There is not much to do in Colesberg itself. In the kraal is the best restaurant in town. Food was tasty, tastefully presented but be prepared to wait a bit. They also have air cooling which was a relief in the heat. Service is friendly and personal.

The building and furniture are old and tired and the room was very small and that after they upgraded us to a bigger room. If you want to keep something cold or warm up, you have to use the shared kitchen, which is closed at night.

We arrived there at 19:00 and were received very kindly. We were starving and quickly received directions to a cozy place to eat. After we were magically full we checked out and found the room was cozy and warm (what a warm welcome). We woke up peacefully the next morning and enjoyed delicious biscuits and coffee before we left again. We did not feel unsafe at all and will definitely stay there again in the future.

The room was clean but very basic. The mattress was not very comfortable and we couldn't pick up the wifi in our room. The shower door also couldn't close but the shower was deep enough not to mess water on the floor. There was a kettle, rusks, tea and coffee in the room. There was no fridge in the room but in the kitchen there is a big freezer for communal use. There was also a fan in our room which was very welcome.

Although the people of the area feel safe to leave security gates unlocked during the night, I feel that the security gates should be locked, especially with small children who sleep in a separate room with a door to the outside whose security gate does not lock .

No advance SMS received. We arrived at the guest house at 13:10. We realize it's before 14:00, saying we just want to say we're here and willing to wait. First words were you are too early. Said we are willing to wait. Lady said will check if our room is ready. Made out receipt and wrote WiFi password on the back. I ask if the password is concatenated and if there should be a space in between, her answer was, I don't know I use it. We had our dogs with us, both are therapy dogs, and when asked if I could take them to the patch of grass for what was necessary, the lady was very aggressive and said they could go for a walk in the hill behind the house. After I explained to her that this was not acceptable to me, she pointed to the door between the front and back of the guest house where I could take them to the grass. We went for a walk through the town with the dogs and when we came back there were 2 dogs in front of the grass where their food and water bowl was in the path next to the grass. I really can't see what the problem was that my dogs couldn't go there. The next morning when we drove I made sure all my dogs' excrement that was between the plants was picked up and put in a bag over the tap at the fountain. I let the lady know, got no reply back. Room is really very neat, would have preferred that there was another table on the other side of the bed.
Donald's guesthouse needs a renovation. It should be painted once and provided with cleaner floor mats. Faucets, tiles and so on need to be replaced. This time we got a different room than a week back, with a better double bed, but there were no chairs in the room. So you can't spend part of the evening sitting in your room reading or watching TV. And the communal kitchen was dirty. The microwave oven's power button was off, while it was on a much too low power. There are also clear instructions for use in the rooms for the TV, the WiFi password and the use of the kitchen. Is it the intention that everyone washes their own dishes again? Or can you just leave it dirty everywhere in the kitchen as happened now? In summary: this guest house has enough possibilities but the owner can exploit it in a better way. Currently, despite good beds and clean bedding, the guest house leaves a neglected impression.
Plank floors are nice but creak terribly, especially at night when you have to walk the 20 meters to the bathroom past other bedrooms. The TV in the room is probably 30 years old. Small screen, up in one corner of the room. No air conditioning.

Everything was 100% great sleep and had a friendly reception. Only the parking was a bit of a problem. When we had to drive out very early in the morning, 2 other vehicles stood in the road where vehicles had to drive in and out. Was a terrible struggle seeing as the Amarok is very wide and the one vehicle that was in the road also had a pram. Otherwise we were 100% and more satisfied.

The room was neat and clean. Could use shared fridge facilities. Shower facilities only, no bath. This is acceptable with the water shortage. There is only one fan. With the heat I would have appreciated it if there was air conditioning. Couldn't sleep at all because of the heat.
The administration of our reception was once again highly professional and Piet made us feel as welcome and at home again as if we unexpectedly ran into an old friend and, although our room was still excellently neat and clean, exactly as in the photos, it might be time for a new, firmer mattress or two.
Ideally situated as a halfway stop between Johannesburg and Cape Town. Establishment is in a quiet area and there is access to shops and restaurants close by. Room was very comfortable and I had a good night's rest. Best of luck on the future growth of your establishment. Value for money per night.

Donald's Guesthouse is very well equipped with everything one could need, especially for just an overnight stop. My mother really enjoyed the room in the house with the nice, big bathroom and nice bath. My two dogs and I stayed comfortably in one of the outer rooms. The parking is right in front of the rooms, but maybe think about putting a lock on the outside gate.
Donalds is a clean, tidy place to stay. There could be a fridge in rooms or at least water. Otherwise all you need for one night.

The place was not at all up to standard and there was an ashtray in front of every window which did not smell good. We are not smokers and were not acceptable. There was no smoking inside the rooms which was good, I was very sorry I paid the full amount in advance. Otherwise I would have lost my deposit and gone looking for another place.

We stayed in a multi-room guest house with pleasant surroundings and quaint architecture. Parking was a little tight though it did not cause any problems.
We decided on the spur of the moment to sleep over instead. We were warmly welcomed and had a nice time with some of the other guests. The room was clean and comfortable, just what we were looking for.

Donald Guesthouse can count among the best in Colesburg, because it is a very nice place, well located and very safe. The place is a little neglected, I don't know if the helpers were off, it was full of dust and dirt. If it can be cleaned and the storage space right next to the kitchen and dining room is cleaned up a bit, it can look and stay much better.

Everything was so neat and clean and everything provided and can really recommend it to other travellers.
No, not worth it.
Overall, it was quite a disappointment when we arrived at the guest house. We weren't expecting luxury accommodation, but first impressions of the guest house were that it was neglected. It doesn't look welcoming. In that respect it is like the rest of Colesberg, dilapidated. The owner/resident shouts through the window above the office if they can help. On our second time there on the way back home after the holidays there was not even someone to give the keys to the room. If the keys were not in the office gate, we would probably still be standing in front of a closed door. As a self-catering unit, they may also provide a fridge in the room. If perhaps a little effort (pride) is put into the guest house, it can be a positive change. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the picture at all.

The place definitely has potential, but they are going to have to work harder to create a clean and safe space for overnight guests. Our room was full of cobwebs, and we couldn't get the advertised WiFi reception in the room (and we chose this place over others because of the WiFi), the premises were dark and felt unsafe. I don't think the setup justifies the price they charge, rather charge less or put in more effort. Will not stay here again.
The host was friendly and te room was clean, but we had to ask for toilet paper, the beds were really uncomfortable and the pillows terrible! The TV could just as well be taken out of the room - it's so small! Definitely not worth the money. Keep looking.
We stayed in the main house and not in the house or annex on the photo. Beautiful architecture with bad lighting - too dark - they should put better light measures in (of the sort that compliments the architecture and colour schemes) for better lighting. Sheets on the double bed is a bright purple colour - white sheets would work better. No toilet paper in one of the bathrooms - the kids had to come fetch from the main bedroom. Front door could not close - it was broken and got stuck - only a trellis gate prevented people entry. Repairwork is needed - it creates a poor impression. The manager was kind enough to specially make a braai available to us - thank you for that.
The room didn't have any windows, only one above the door. No aircon. Reception wasn't that great. The safety for ladies wasn't up to scratch. The door couldn't lock properly.
Donalds "dump" is the typical "wannabe" and sorry excuse of a guesthouse. No decaf coffee, manager had to go out and buy some. Bedding is of a lesser standard. TV is as big as an A4 sheet of paper. Communal kitchen is filthy and the list goes on. It blows my mind. Photographs are extremely deceiving. I couldn't and shall never promote this dump to anybody.
Rather keep driving towards Bloemfontein, people!

The unit does not have air conditioning. We hardly slept. With the current weather patterns, a guest house must have air conditioning. Heat is unbearable and one wants to rest well after a day's long journey.

As a single traveller the accommodation met my overnight-stay needs with a warm shower, comfortable bed, communal kitchen and safe parking (close to police station).
It's just very hot in Colesberg. It's ok for just one night's overnight on the way to the Cape.
No aircon. No bedside lamps. Pitch dark when I switched the light off by the wall. TV poor. Was so small, I needed binoculars. Remote controls didn't work. Couldn't turn the TV off with remote, same with the other room. Nowhere did they mention that cooking utensils are available to make your own breakfast. Would be useful for first time users.
Some basic maintenance needs to be done to the buildings inside and outside. Grass needed a cut.
For the price it's probably not too bad. Plank floors that crack badly. Very unsafe. We were out for dinner that evening and when we returned there was no lighting which could be very dangerous.
Accommodation very basic. Cotton linen on bed would be highly recommended. There are satiny linen on bed which is very sweaty in summer. Tiles in bathroom that are broken do not make a good impression. If it wasn't that they were animal friendly (I had my cat with me) I wouldn't have stayed the night there.

Upon arrival there was nobody at the office. We had to ring the bell a couple of times. The bed was so hard and the whole place just didn't feel nice. Didn't enjoy my stay.
It was 42° outside and the standing fan did not work. We had to get another one - after asking. There was one electric lead which was badly connected. No bedside lamps. The floors creaked so badly you could hear the neighbours walking around. Definitely not an experience to be repeated.
Arrive at 18:00. Had to ring and knock the bell for a very long time before the manager came out. He was poorly dressed and unprofessional. I couldn't use the bedside lamp because there was no wall plug for it. No security exists. The mattress in the room is in battered condition and belongs on an ash heap. After I went to eat, I had to struggle in the dark to unlock the door. There were no lights on. I had to call the driver to turn on the lights. His excuse was that the lights attract bugs.
The rooms are extremely hot given how scorching hot it is in the Northern Cape. One could have fainted from heat exhaustion. The toilets are disgustingly old and need to be redone. The rooms are full of bugs. The garden looks deserted and neglected. The owner needs to do some serious renovations at that establishment.
We are very friendly and quickly helped by our host. The old house and rooms are beautiful and all the facilities were clean and well maintained. Just the place for a weary traveler. Calm and quiet. The beautiful plank floors and antique furniture together with the curtains and lampshades create a feeling of my grandmother's house. Nice and cozy, almost as if Grandma is going to peek around the door at any moment with home-baked cookies and tea and her best fine china. Thank you very much.

It is completely tidy and safe for an overnight destination. What is particularly advantageous about Donalds is that one can arrive there late (even slightly later than 10 o'clock in the evening if you make an arrangement). We were received kindly and everything you need is in the room. It was also particularly quiet when we were there.
Upon arrival we were welcomed by the owner. No problem there, but the room was substandard and made us feel uncomfortable as a family.
After all the other pet friendly places to stay, this one was just so-so.
When we got there at 18:30 the place was shrouded in darkness. No lights were on outside. Only after I pointed it out to the manager was it turned on. The room was ordinary. Bathroom unpleasant. Personally, I feel that R500 for the evening was way too much and an amount of R300 would be more appropriate. It was really just a place to sleep.
The wooden floors are incredibly noisy. No air conditioning. Can't open windows. Caged and felt warm. We decided at 3:30 to get up and drive.
We will definitely not stay there again. Tourists normally have a cooler and then you expect there to be at least a small fridge to keep milk or juice cold. There was a beautiful hanging closet but no hanging space...the rail was missing. The worst part was that the shower was filthy. It's not just a week's dirt, but months'. I took a picture if you are interested. When we paid, we were asked if we wanted a receipt. For any business a receipt must be given for any monies coming in.

Advertises DStv but only has TOP TV. It felt unpleasant and uncomfortable. Definitely would not recommend it. Extremely weak!

Mr Botha could see that we were old people on our way to Noupoort by bus. He said after I called him that he couldn't pick us up at the bus stop. Arriving there, he very reluctantly came to strip us after I called him. His place was 5 km from the bus stop. The boiler didn't work, it was very cold, there was no place to hang clothes, no place to put things, no power point for the bedside lamp, no warmth, no accommodation. The next morning he was clear despite the fact that he was aware of our transport problem. We wanted to compensate him for the transport, but he was clear!

Room was spacious, bathroom/shower was handy, clean, and delicious hot water. Kettle with coffee, tea, sugar, milk powder and cups were ready for lafenis. Modern bedding contributed to a restful night's sleep. I was very impressed with the helpfulness and tremendous effort the people at LekkeSlaap made to keep me informed all the time, and to deal with any questions so quickly. The emails were truly an experience! Many thanks to the people there, before I even arrived at the guest house, I already felt at home! Indeed I can tell that it was a pleasant sleepover experience. I can truly recommend the place! Would have really appreciated having an information leaflet behind the door explaining everything (just a thought!).

Arrived late at night and on the road early next morning.
Friendly welcome. Room tidy and everything needed for one night's sleep was there. Bed linen clean and fresh. Problems with DStv.
The rooms are very hot and the fan does not help much. The floors also make a lot of noise and I think for the price you can get better.
Not bad as a stop over, but compared to other places where we have stayed for the same price, Donald's is overpriced. Other places in this price range have DStv, bar fridges, swimming pools and exceptionally comfortable beds. Not unhappy with Donald's, but they may have to up their game a bit to stay competitive.
Upon arrival there was nobody to greet us and the bell did not work. I stood outside calling, but Donald did not have a room for us even though we paid the deposit. It took a couple of hours to sort out the confusion. There were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and the blankets were hard, cheap and scratchy. To make matters even worse, we had cold showers as Donald did not know why the geyser was not working and called out an electrician eventually, but it was too late.
This is basic overnight accommodation.
It will help future guests a great deal if the office for the guest house could be in a different area.
We were only booked into Donald's for one night as stopover on our way to Plettenberg Bay, so in reality we were looking for a place to stay overnight. Donald's Guesthouse was a disappointment for the following reasons: 1) The picture on the website looks inviting, however when we arrived we were shown to a facebrick converted house at the back of the house pictured on the website. 2) Piet, the gentleman who checked us in was polite and helpful, but could not explain to me why we were not being accommodated in the house pictured on the website. 3) The bedrooms were comfortable and we had a good night's rest. 4) Lighting in the rooms was not good at all. 5) TV (whilst we were not too concerned) did not work at all in any of the rooms. 6) Generally the cleanliness left a lot to be desired. To sum up I was extremely happy with the excellent service given by LekkeSlaap and will use you again, but Donald's was a big disappointment.
A decent stay.
We arrived to an unattended reception area, staff had to go and look for the responsible person.
No housekeeping provided during our stay - not even the simplest of simplest changing of towels or emptying of the bin. There was no toilet paper provided, and we were not informed about water shortages in the area before our arrival. There was the noise of what we think was a rat and tenants during the night. The drinking water provided on arrival was not refilled once, and when we got to the room, there were already used sugar papers laying around from previous guests. Not very happy at all.
Not a good experience, ants on the floor and in the bed. Single bed matress was not good. Fan could not be set to work effectively.
The ad says self-catering units. However, the accommodation offered was only a room with a boiler. No microwave oven or fridge that one expects from self catering or at least only cutlery! The TV didn't work. The toilet didn't work. The bathroom is so small that you sit with your knees under the sink and against the wall, if you sit on the toilet.

The guest house just lacks that something. The bedding is laundered and facilities only the very basic.
Not recommended at all. The beds were so uncomfortable. Already seen much better places for the same price.
The Guesthouse rooms look like outside rooms at the back of a house. Asked for two single beds as I had my adult son with me, but got a double bed. It is self-catering, there is not a fridge. There is advertised DStv, but it was TOP-TV. The bed is worn out and when my son moved it felt as if I was going to fall off on the other side. When we left the morning I had little bugs crawling all over me. Wish I could get my money back after having to kill the bugs crawling on me. All that was okay was the bathroom. The water was warm and the shower big.
The room was clean. It was very hot and it would have been nice if there was a fan. the bathroom is very, very small. The wooden floors creak terribly. The reception was friendly and helpful.
