68 guests' feedbackThis accommodation makes maximum use of the beautiful surroundings. Out of town with magnificent views of the surrounding hills, yet accessible to all amenities. Tastefully decorated and well resourced, especially for very chilly nights! Rugs next to the beds on the icy tiles would be helpful. We enjoyed the donkeys and the ostrich. Our hostess went out of her way to ensure our comfort.
Clean, tidy and hospitality 10 out of 10. Unit has everything and we really enjoyed our visit. Will definitely book Donkieshoek again.
Wow! Look no further! Karen is the best "host" we have ever had. Nothing is too much trouble for her. Donkieshoek is amazing! From the electric blankets, gas heater and fireplace to the spotless place, fresh eggs delivered to us and blazing hot shower, this was the best value for money we've experienced in a long time. Can recommend Donkieshoek with great confidence. Thank you so much, Karen!

Karin is not only a wonderful hostess, she bends over backwards to make one's stay at Donkieshoek comfortable and enjoyable. The cottage is beautifully appointed with all the luxuries one could possibly need, especially if you have just finished walking a Tankwa Camino. From the tasteful interior decoration to the quality of the linen and lovely wine glasses and of course the donkeys that give Donkieshoek its name - everything is so nice you actually just want to stay there. It's great that it's on the edge of Calvinia outside the busy town but still 5 minutes away from all the shops needed. The perfect base to explore the Tankwa Karoo.
We enjoyed it very much. When we got home, my wife told the kids and they booked the next stay. We look forward to it.

We had a wonderful stay at Donkieshoek. The cottage offers everything and the finishes are modern. The location is lovely with the open space, view of the Hantamberge and with the donkeys opposite the property, giving a nice farm feel.

We had a wonderful stay in the excellently equipped and beautiful house. Since it was very hot, air conditioners and/or a pool would have made it even nicer, but the fans helped.

It's a great facility. Everything speaks of finesse and taste. The location may worry some people because it is separate and slightly out of the main town, but the security measures were great and it was lovely to hang out on the stoep with a braai.

It was me and my husband with my parents. My father is very difficult to move and is in a wheelchair or walker, and we could handle him there very easily. There is more than enough space. We only stayed one night on the way from Upington to the Cape, but I will definitely go there again for longer. It is very neat, very well furnished. There is plenty of storage space to unpack. Nice beds and everything is clean and very nice. These donkeys are a big treat. And the other animals also entertained us. It is so wonderfully quiet. Nice indoor grilling, and then outdoor grilling. You can just have a good time there. Donkieshoek stole my heart. We will definitely go there again. The food (grill packs, salad and braai buns) we ordered was also delicious. It also made things a lot easier for us not to buy things on the road. So they put in a lot of effort. We asked to have DSTV and everything was clear and easy. The WiFi is also good. We had no problems.
We had the most incredible time visiting Calvinia, and staying at Donkieshoek was just the cherry on top! It's such a beautiful stopover, we didn't want to leave. We will definitely book a longer stay next time. Every single thing has been thought of to make your stay as comfortable as possible, the inside and outside braais are perfect, and the animals were so entertaining, we made two stops at the Spar for carrots for the donkeys, they were so cute! Looking forward to visiting again!
The accommodation was top notch. With load shedding we are spoiled with solar lights. The cute donkeys also made it special. This is definitely the best accommodation in Calvinia.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by friendly donkeys and staff. The directions were easy to follow and the place is luxurious and tasteful. During beurtktag all lights and WiFi work. Braai place on the porch as well as an indoor braai.
Karen received us professionally and took us to the accommodation. According to the photos, I knew it was beautiful but we were really so surprised. The bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, were so comfortable and well appointed. The braai on the porch as well as inside the house is really a bonus. What a gem of a place with its 4 resident donkeys and 3 ostriches. Next time I will visit longer.
Donkieshoek exceeded all our expectations. Gas heaters and electric blankets on the beds ensured warm bodies and warm hearts. The fact that there is always power during load shedding is a huge bonus. The house is well equipped and spotlessly clean. Karin was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely want to stay there again.

Donkieshoek is a modern house in a quiet setting. There is no traffic noise from the main road, which is heavily used by big trucks transporting minerals. The barbecue area is exceptional. The bedrooms are spacious, and the en-suite bathrooms are modern.

The indoor barbecue was a godsend with the wind being cool outside. The cottage is very well equipped. It's fun to watch the donkeys.

The facility has everything you need and is very tidy. Provision has also been made for load shedding. The facility can handle 4 adults and we were only 2. Cost for 4 persons is good. We really enjoyed the donkeys and dancing ostrich.

Very interesting town, the museum is a must. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful, food for the soul. Love the little school's play village, hope our town also wants to do something like that.
We stayed 4 nights during the flower season and had a great rest. Karen received us with great hospitality and went out of her way to make our stay pleasant. The cottage is just outside the town and very quiet with good security. The indoor barbecue was a bonus for the cold evenings. The unit was very comfortable with strong water pressure for a nice shower. We would definitely want to stay there again.

The house is very tidy, well equipped, convenient for our half-way stop between the Cape and Kgalagadi. The veranda is large and cozy for barbecuing, and the donkeys and ostriches provided good entertainment.
Don't be put off by the harsh environment on a plot just outside Calvinia. The house is very nicely furnished, clean and comfortable, with a lovely veranda for braai. We only stayed one night on our way to Kgalagadi and would stay there again.
The fact that there is an option to grill inside or outside is great.

Two lovely spacious bedrooms each with king size beds (as well as a single bed). Was thankful for electric blankets! Indoor and outdoor grilling. Was great to grill in the freezing cold, with no smell of smoke in the house. Kitchen very well equipped. We were thankful for a lighter as we forgot to bring one! Hope to book in there again soon.

The indoor grill is just a problem and smells very bad.
The place was awesome. Was unhappy with the service when we had to check in. Owner provided a location, but when we arrived there was no one to hand over the key. We call her and she says we have to drive to her to get the key or we just have to wait half an hour, this after we have provided her with our arrival time.
We were on our way to Langgebaan and decided to visit all the small towns towards our final destination. Donkieshoek on Calvinia is a wonderful place and we will definitely visit it again. The people are very friendly and the town is very friendly and clean.
Everything in Donkieshoek is quality, from the furniture to the cutlery. The place is spotless and the donkeys are an added bonus.
