Due to the storms in the Western Cape and the fact that some of the main routes as well as the Huguenot tunnel were closed to traffic, we were obliged to postpone our booking by one night. After one phone call directly after reception at Donkin Country House, our request was met immediately and without hesitation. This is excellent service.
Only stayed one night.
I had a relaxing, peaceful overnight stay after a long drive. The room and amenities were perfect. I had the dinner, which seemed a little pricey for the food on offer. Breakfast was included. I only had fruit and yoghurt, but the option seemed good value for money.

On the way back to my destination, I once again slept at the Donkin in Beaufort. Very lovely town and would advise you to definitely make use of Donkin for your evening or two or temporary visit.

Room was very small but the dinner was great.
The room (room 6) allocated to us is situated in a corner. The room is very dark and in need of an upgrade. During loadshedding the generators are only able to keep the plugs and lights working. The aircon is not connected to the generator thus very uncomfortable on a hot day (38 deg) at the time we visited the facility. We decided to book in at another location which had better facilities and not being disrupted during loadshedding. Unfortunately, this facility is a type of budget accommodation. This cannot be compared to a more modern type of accommodation within the same price tag.
Inconvenient, for price paid it was little privacy, inconvenient bathroom, poor maintenance, coffee sucks not even decent coffee. Much more expected for price paid to stay overnight.
I was moved to another property down the street that didn't have green lawns and a pool. Although it was still neat and I would be 100% happy if it was what I booked, but it wasn't. Feel they should inform you if they move you so you can make the choice to accept it or look for something else.

From booking in to checking out there was no problems. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We had a delicious home-cooked dinner. Even though there was load shedding in the morning we were served a lovely hot breakfast. Definitely will stay there again.

Was very appropriate for the price and location. Sorry about Eskom loadshedding because it's only hot when the air conditioning doesn't work, but not Donkin's fault, so understood. Restaurant's meal was really worth the effort too as there is pretty much nothing in the area.
The place is very nice and very well located, it's just that the room just didn't have a very pleasant smell which was quite annoying. This is now the third time we have used the place. Last time we had a problem with aircon, but at least they helped us.
The establishment was very accommodating as I arrived at 01:50 and they were able to assist in a friendly manner without making me feel uncomfortable at all.

Right on the main road. A car coming past every 10 seconds. A truck coming past every 30 seconds.
When booked and during follow up I was told that they have a pool and a bar on the premises. When checking in I was told I had booked at a different property and not at the main property which didn't have a pool or a bar. At no point was this disclosed. Despite efforts to be moved back to the main property, nothing was available and I felt disappointed as I would have looked for alternate options.

Donkin responded very quickly to my inquiry and indicated that I could take my little Labradoodle with me. We got a comfortable room and the managers of the on-site restaurant played with the puppy very kindly and caringly. It was a nice stay for both of us.
The guest house is good value, but not an easy stay. Beaufort West shut down for Xmas day, so meals were a problem.
Place is okay, but needs attention. c-19 hurt the whole village. Donkin needs to work on their infrastructure.

We only stayed one night as we were traveling to Caledon and had already been on the road for 12 hours at the time of our arrival. Our unit's ceiling needs attention as the paint is either starting to peel or it was not properly prepared before it was painted. The door frame (wood) of the bathroom has a hole in it (which appears to be rotted). Due to the season we are in, we have specifically booked a unit with air conditioning, and although there is an air conditioner, there is a condition that it cannot be set colder than 22 degrees Celsius due to the pressure it puts on the electricity farm. This may not be a problem for everyone, but we prefer at least 18-19 degrees, especially with the temperatures experienced in the summer (it was 38 degrees in the afternoon at 16:30). For the rate being asked, we would also expect proper coffee to be provided in the room, but there were only Ricoffy bags and tea and we just went and bought our own coffee. At the price per night I can't recommend it - it looks like newer, more modern units have been added at the front and may be more value for money, although we didn't view them. However, Donkin Country House is neat and clean, but we have spent the night cheaper with better facilities.
Very expensive for what is actually an old poorly equipped family room. The "restaurant" consisted of a very small buffet with cooked food, without any separate provisions for children. There was no ice and the air conditioning did not work. The parking was simply poor and chaos.
The apartment's decor was old and the bed was hollow. Definitely expected more at that price per night.

I toured alone with my 2 dogs. The accommodation is nice and the people are extremely friendly, the parking is safe and the room was very clean and tidy. Would recommend it anytime for a comfortable tour with animals.

My family thoroughly enjoyed the accommodation and hospitality. A wide range of family members were with us on our tour - granny, mom, married couple and 7 year old daughter. It was an exceptional, welcome, enjoyable break en route.
Room was clean and tidy. Welcome rest after the long and crazy busy holiday traffic. Very friendly people who went out of their way to serve us! It was so nice to be welcomed and served in Afrikaans. I stayed on two occasions for one night each. Although I did not use them, they have a restaurant and bar and a swimming pool. The single room had a bathroom with a shower, air con, a small fridge with coffee/tea/milk, a microwave, a TV with DStv, basic crockery and a kettle which needed to be descaled. Parking is almost outside your room in a secure courtyard with a remotely operated electric gate. A no-hassle place, I would definitely stay there again.
Flat 2 is great, with 2 bedrooms, each with a bathroom. There is also a kitchen and living room with TV. Everything is clean and comfortable! Don't miss the dinner!
The place is spacious. Disappointed in the baths which are old and unstable. As the double bed in one of the rooms is rock hard, no one can sleep on it. Will have to replace it before I will consider staying there again. Furthermore, it is a very cute place.

Accommodation was very neat, very spacious & comfortable, also very good price. However, dinner was far too little even for small portions, and the price was ridiculously expensive. There is also no staff to help with dinner, so for accommodation I would recommend it, but not at all to eat there.
Double bed is harder than kitchen table. Baths look very bad, shower is not at all what a shower should be (I understand there is water shortage, but shower heads/pressure is just plain poor).
I stayed here for one night en route from Johannesburg to the Cape. It's situated right on the N1 in the centre of town so well positioned although there is a number of other hotels in the same street. The room was okay - needs a little redecoration. No fridge in the room. Also the first time I've stayed in a hotel room that had neither a wardrobe or a hook on the wall to hang a jacket. I had the evening buffet meal which was okay if a little dull and expensive. Not worth the money, I would eat elsewhere if I stayed here again.

We were at home in the Cottage in New Street. The baths should be upgraded, the general condition leaves much to be desired. Dinner was something special and we really enjoyed it.

The reception was warm. Little house was very dusty, almost as if it had been allowed for a long time and no one had opened it before visitors came. Shower was very very poor. Dining area where breakfast is served is dirty - forks still have jam on them, sugar bowl is under the dust, tablecloth was full of old coffee marks and breakfast is not value for money at all. Warmed milk was again served to us for cold milk with old milk skins in it. We're not complaining people, but it's one of the worst places I've ever been.

Although Donkin Country House was undergoing renovations, it didn't seem to mind. There was order at all times and safety was not a problem. The restaurant on site is fantastic and the food of excellent quality. The place is on the main street, but the traffic is not heard at all and is therefore not a problem.

The rooms were very nice clean and tidy, and I like that the vans can park inside and are safe. We also ate well. The only point that put me off a bit was that the tablecloth was dirty and the cutlery was not completely clean. I would sleep there again, but maybe just not eat there.

Donkin Country House is one of those places you go back to again and again. Now with the upgraded rooms with the convenience of a small fridge and kitchenette, this is the ideal place to spend the night on a trip to and from the Cape. It's neat and clean with friendly staff and delicious food. We would (and have) recommend it to friends and family anytime.

A very nice experience. The food was some of the best. The seating area in the dining room was small. The service was excellent and the boy at the bar was extremely friendly and pleasant. The room (09) just needs more attention and the radio can easily be replaced. DStv will be welcome.

I was a little afraid of noise from trucks when I saw that the guest house is located on the main street. However, in the rooms it was not a problem, and we could sleep undisturbed. Everything was very well organized and the service was excellent. Beds and linen were of good quality and we were able to spend the night comfortably. The cars are safely parked inside the complex. Would definitely recommend!
