Set on a working farm in the Sneeuberg Karoo, the accommodation is always clean & comfortable, and the service always warm & friendly. The farm is situated about 10 km outside Nieu Bethesda, so it's also a perfect base if you want to explore this quaint little town.
Peet made us feel right at home. Friendly, helpful, kind and generous. We loved our stay there and would love to go back again and stay for longer. WiFi only works closer to the main house, but who needs internet when you are in such a beautiful location?

It was a delight. The host is just most welcoming and showed us the farm. Although we had a burst pipe and there was a lot of water in our booked cottage, he just invited us to stay in the main house and moved us to the much bigger cottage the second night. The cleaning staff was amazing.
Doornberg is a beautiful farm with so much history and character. The owner, Peet, is a true host. We had a wonderful visit, walked and rested. Would definitely recommend if the business of the city gets too much!
We were pleasantly surprised by the school house. It had everything we needed in terms of kitchen utensils, braai facilities, towels etc. The swimming pool was lovely and the garden was lush. It was fun to walk around and see the farm animals, and the mountains surrounding the farm are magnificent. The best part was how quiet it was. We felt safe and completely relaxed though we were only there for 2 nights and one day.
Would recommend but it's too expensive for what you get. It is actually a sleeper 2 made into a sleeper 4. The bathroom is not up to standard. This is why it has to be a sleep 2.
Unusually heavy rains made it a bit of a challenge for everyone due to flooding, power cuts, infrastructure damage etc. No complaints considering the hosts had to deal with very challenging conditions. Would love to go back to properly experience the area.

Warm welcome, lovely farmyard, nicely equipped kitchenette, spotlessly clean. There is a cool gas heater for the winter, no fireplace, nice barbecue spot under the tree! Take provisions with you - you don't always feel like driving to town, 9 km!
As a night transiting through Nieu Bethesda, the old farmhouse we stayed in at Doornberg was very comfortable. We had all amenities one could need.
The road to the farm was interesting, and the farm environment surprisingly beautiful. We had a choice to take a larger unit than the one we booked, and this unit was beautiful, spacious, tidy and well equipped. A swim in the farm's pool, fed with spring water, was invigorating.

The setting despite all the grasshoppers was stunning, what a nice farm house, with enough rooms for our group to pick and choose, we had a great time exploring the farm with all its hidden gems, well appointed and we didn't have anything not short, even several choices of where to braai, the men were in their element. Definitely worth staying more than one night, definitely a must for next time. Thanks for sharing your 7/8 generations of farm history with us, was just what was needed to leave the city's dust behind.

We stayed in the old school unit. We will definitely want to stay here again for more than just one night. The tranquility of the surroundings and the farm is charming. Boer Peet was our knight on a white horse by helping us repair two flat tires before we left. The people of the area are warm and the accommodation was clean, comfortable and tidy, it was a quick but lovely stay.

Doornberg is special to me and my husband, because we also spent the night there on our way to Plett during our honeymoon seven years ago. On our recent visit we were able to introduce our little boy to the special farm.

The children in particular were very pleased with the old school which has been beautifully transformed. Peet and Hannelie make you feel very welcome and between the horses, chickens, ducks and swimming pool the children had more than enough to keep them busy.

The house was spacious and there were enough beds and bathrooms to meet everyone's needs. Peet and Hanna also made an extra effort to accommodate an additional 3 guests who toured with us at the last minute.

Peet and Hannah are wonderful people and immediately made us feel at home. We stayed in the "old school" and really enjoyed it. Everything was clean and tidy. It was perfect for one night's sleepover for our family of 4. Wish we could have stayed longer.
We were lucky enough to stay in the School House for a night. The School House is a stunning old school building that was a working school until 2003. The room still retains some elements of the old school which adds a certain nostalgia to the visit. Very comfortable, clean and neat accommodation. We were very well received by our hosts and had no issue finding the place. Even though we had dinner in town, the kitchen was thoroughly kitted out for those choosing to cook. We would definitely come back for a longer visit next time to take advantage of everything that Doornberg Guest Farm and Nieu-Bethesda has to offer.
What a nice getaway to Doornberg. We enjoyed it very much, learned many interesting things/farm things and there is plenty of room for an 18 month old boy to keep him busy. We stayed in the schoolhouse, very neat and everything that could be needed is there. And the Van Heerdens are absolutely wonderfully pleasant people. And New Bethesda pleasantly surprised us! Will definitely return to it again!

Doornberg Guest Farm has everything you need for an overnight stay. The owners were very informative about the area. It has a nice relaxing country farm atmosphere.
The schoolhouse we stayed in was very hot and too close to the sheep and pig pens. Lots of flies and no air conditioning or mosquito nets in front of windows. The building looks neglected from the outside.
Peet and Hanna made us feel so welcome on their paradise. We and the children learned a lot about the Karoo farm life in a short time and will definitely visit again soon. Thank you for the lovely place to stay and all the facilities that were clean and usable.

This guest farm, with its host and hostess, Peet and Hanna van Heerden, offers the traveler the opportunity to experience the Karoo in its entirety. What is advertised is provided. Peet and Hanna welcomed us with open arms and we immediately felt welcome. The accommodation is very clean and tidy and all the facilities are in good working order. You can unpack, rest and cook without worrying about anything. And then there is the Karoo with its stars, its silence and its peace. Here you can clear your head and let your heart rest. For sure not just for a one night drop in... One should stay here for at least a few days.

We had a wonderful time in this large old farmhouse, equipped with everything one could possibly need. The owners, Peet and Hannah, are very hospitable! Our children had a wonderful time running around and cycling on the farm, even watching the sheep being sheared, the most beautiful view when you walk up the hill. Note that the dirt road (8.5 km) between the farm and Nieu-Betesda can take a while with a vehicle that is not 4x4, but it is doable!

The accommodation was situated amongst farm animals which gave you a true rural experience. The owners were friendly, helpful and had good knowledge of New Bethesda and all the places to visit. The pool was lovely and the braai area clean and adequate.

We slept in the old school. Very cute with all the school paraphernalia. The room was fully equipped. They had everything you would come to need in the kitchen. Cellphone reception was bad and we didn't have a TV (But that's how we like it). It's a lovely environment and the owners are really kind. Unfortunately the gravel road coming from town is very bad, but not totally impassible. Just drive carefully.

After our two-day visit in the Karoo National Park near Beaufort West, we had the best night at Doornberg. Doornberg is a genuine working Karoo farm with a very interesting history. Will definitely make time to spend at least 4 days on the farm to explore all the hiking trails and much more. Peet and Hannah are down to earth people and very friendly. We will definitely recommend Doornberg to all our friends and family.

The owners of the farm were amazing and helpful. The Vlei cottage was the most peaceful place we have been to in a very long time. To be able to sit and relax surrounded by nature and their animals on the farm was brilliant. We would recommend Doornberg to anyone and will most definitely return again.

If you are looking for a clean and peaceful place to stay, this is it! We stayed over for one night and it was incredible, with the stars so close it feels like you can reach out and touch them. The owners are very hospitable. The men were welcomed with an ice-cold beer and the women could choose what they wanted to drink (free of charge). The old-fashioned fireplace in the house works very well.
We were overwhelmed by the cleanliness, hospitality and nice farm stay! It was once again proof that spending the night on a farm is the best choice, especially on Doornberg! We recommend this place anytime and will go again!
Hospitality in a true sense of the word - it felt like a holiday on a farm. We "kuiered" around tea and home made biscuits discussing South Africa, farming, art and architecture. The children had so much fun with the horses and all the other animals. Awesome home cooked meals. We LOVED it!

I can definitely recommend Doornberg. We stayed 2 nights on our way to the Cape. We explored Nieu-Bethesda for an entire day, what a gem. We will definitely stay at Doornbeg again. The hospitality was wonderful.
The place has an absolute homey feel and the hosts are very friendly. You have all the privacy you could ask for and are surrounded by the love of nature. The fireplace adds a spark to the chilly evenings which is best enjoyed with a glass of red. We loved every minute there!
