The big original farmhouse, dating back to 1704, was renovated into 4 spacious, fully equipped, self-catering units with shower bathrooms. The kitchen in each of these 4 units is fully equipped. Each unit also offers a living area and Viognier, Pinotage & Shiraz have TV's with 18 Open View Channels. Pinotage & Shiraz have 2 bathrooms each.
The old wine cellar, harness-, mill- and milk rooms were renovated into luxurious guest rooms. There is a bar fridge and coffee-making facilities in each room. Guests also have access to the small communal kitchen.
Outside, guests can relax on the veranda and experience the breathtaking views of the mountains, the Berg River, and the vineyards with the awesome sound of fish eagles crying in the background. All this whilst your children enjoy the huge garden with expansive lawns to play on and a sparkling pool.
The owners also opened a farm stall and restaurant that guests are welcome to visit. They are situated between Riebeek Kasteel and Hermon on the R46. Breakfast and lunch are served daily from 08:00 until 15:00, closed on Tuesdays. Du Vlei also has a small function venue for special occasions with guests up to 120 people and conferences for 50 people.
Du Vlei is only 75 km from Cape Town, a 1-hour drive from Cape Town International Airport, and a few minutes' drive from several wedding venues and wine/olive estates.

Kitchen shared with other visitors - there was no one else. There are larger units with better kitchen facilities. I really enjoyed the silence and openness.

The loft arrangement in the rooms that are alongside one another is not ideal, as you hear the creaking noises from your neighbours. But, as budget accommodation, it is good.
The rooms were spacious, but next door guests who stayed up late chatting loudly outside (night one) and playing music late (night two) somewhat spoiled our stay.
Received quick feedback on emails and we were upgraded for free to other accommodation without stairs to make things easier with small baby. Cleanliness in kitchen with appliances and amenities just needs some attention.

A double bed would definitely work, but otherwise everything is fine.
Small, but sufficient for short term stays. The second time we stayed there.
Friendly reception, neat and clean, value for money, will stay there again. Place the "Peaceful Sleep" mosquito repellent in a more visible or prominent place. The next morning I discovered it in a bakkie on the windowsill after the mosquitoes had almost eaten me alive.
Accommodation was basic and clean. Most of the reviews highlight the beautiful views of the valley and private stoeps with braai's but the Viognier and Cabernet units have no view at all and only a communal braai, this results in noise outside the unit and smoke coming into the windows. The biggest issue is the lack of hot water. Management is aware of the problem hence the notice on the bathroom door stating how to use the water but unfortunately when more than one unit is occupied, one gas geyser cannot supply hot water to the showers of the units simultaneously.
Very satisfied and would definitely like to stay there again.
Bring milk along for the morning after and drink tea on the patio! Very affordable and neat, everything you need for a night after a wedding. Hostess very friendly and helpful.

Du Vlei is a perfect getaway destination and value for money as well. Everything is very well maintained and the staff is very hospitable. The destination is very centrally located and offers many pastimes to enjoy, both on site and in the immediate area.
We needed a place urgently and Du Vlei was affordable for 4 people at short notice. This was a great experience and will be keeping their contact for future getaway planning!
Pleasant, friendly owners. Welcoming, clean swimming pool. Clean, tidy rooms with clean linen, towels included. Everything we needed was there. Unfortunately, both hot water taps at the wash basins were faulty, but Thereza confirmed that it would be repaired, gas shower working well. Maybe put other chairs outside on the sidewalk, as plastic chairs tend to slip on tiles? Book any planned visit to the padstal with its management as it is being rented. (We could not watch the rugby there because the padstal closes at 17:00 on Saturday afternoon). Due to the drought, fishing was impossible, too little water in the river.
Would recommend, but would also prefer the kitchen to be more spacious with a better look so that you don't feel like you have to wash the dishes first.
On the map, Du Vlei, is pretty close to the main road but make no mistake - only the morning birds will wake you in the morning. The rooms were clean and functional. The view from the river bank over the vineyards and mountains on the other side is amazing - not many other guest houses around here have that. A great "home base" from where to explore the surrounding area.
The service was very good and very friendly. Everything was 100%. Appreciated the simplicity and affordability. One does not always look for "fancy" expensive places. All I can complain about is that the coffee and sugar packets were not entirely acceptable. There wasn't nearly enough sugar in it. We left coffee instead because there wasn't enough sugar for everyone. We all drink 2 sugar and there was only 1 per person.
Service was so friendly and we had a good night's rest and it was so peaceful.

Something different from normal guesthouses, you really experience nature because it is located on a farm in incredibly beautiful surroundings. Rooms are very well furnished considering that it was old horse stable. Would definitely recommend for the nature lover.

Having no problem with accommodation, guests will be advised to take their own coffee if they are staying for more than one night. We only got coffee for one morning and didn't even think about taking more, as other accommodation options always provide enough bags of coffee for the nights you sleep over. Will stay there again, at least now we know for next time.

The original arrangement was for one night for a couple, but then life happened and we took the kids and a friend with us. We were the only ones using the communal kitchen, because there were so few people. Because it is small we would visit again, but then book the unit along with the kitchen. From start to finish everything was excellent. Service, cleanliness, the people who booked us in. So nice to have experienced this. Thank you.
We were received with so much hospitality and genuine rural friendship. Our room was perfect, clean and fresh. The view of the mountains at sunset is something out of a fairy tale. Wish we could visit longer!

Pity about the room next door to us having a burst pipe, their room flooded. As all the rooms are connected with water, the water was shut off. This meant that none of us were able to shower or use the toilet. We had to leave early on Sunday morning to use the toilets at the nearby restaurant. Not being able to shower was also not very nice. Other than that, the location is great and they have friendly staff.
This was our third time at Du Vlei and the first time we had problems with the facilities. Apparently a pipe had burst and that was the reason we had no water in our little house. I sent Du Vlei an email to ask if we could get our deposit back. They responded very quickly to the email and let us know that the owner is not available at the moment, but as soon as she returns she will contact us to discuss the refund of the deposit. I would definitely go back to stay there again.
Directions must also be indicated from Malmesbury if you therefore come in from the opposite side past Riebeeck-Kasteel. It is only passed on from Hermon's side.
The fan was just broken. Furthermore, it was very nice and we will stay there again. The environment is beautiful.

We were able to rest wonderfully. The owners are beautiful and friendly people. Well located for visiting the West Coast and surrounding areas. The restaurant has tasty meals and the staff is also very friendly.

The place was neat and clean, but we didn't sleep too well because there were rats or birds in the roof that made a lot of noise. It went on all night.
Our unit's privacy, amenities, porch, view etc. was something special. The pool was a surprise in the heat! With everything more than satisfied and very much enjoyed. The apartment was well equipped and nothing was missing. The nice braai wood, ice and other goods available on the premises were cool! The fans etc in the rooms were also a nice perk. (It was a hot weekend.) The bathrooms might just need some attention in general. The shower door won't close from the inside!

The view outside is amazing! Took nice photos. We didn't barbecue, but the barbecue place is nice! Oval cement block, pack camping chairs around it and have a good barbecue. The owner, Theresa, if I remember correctly, was very friendly.
It's very expensive for what it offers. Old bedding, hard towels etc. Top notch restaurant.

Farm and surroundings were a nice experience, the history of the farm as well as the old postal were very interesting. The beds were unfortunately a bit uncomfortable.

Nice and quiet and relaxed!
We were a group of four singles and therefore required four single beds. We were offered a bigger room, but unfortunately could not take it, due to a double bed. Furthermore, the accommodation was neat and small. A little more space would have been sufficient.
The setting, the friendliness and the accommodation are all great, but the rooms are listed as self catering and the smaller rooms don't have cooking facilities. So they are not self catering - they just have a kettle for making a cup of tea. I recommend that a small stove be placed in all the small rooms - a washing up facility could be provided outside so there wouldn't be a need for additional plumbing. Otherwise a good stay.

The accommodation at Du Vlei includes everything that is needed for a comfortable and enjoyable overnight stay. It would be nice if there were more channels on television than just SABC 1, 2 and 3 (maybe something like DStv compact?).
Du Vlei is outside Riebeek Kasteel (about 7 km). More attention can be paid to general cleanliness and beauty. Furthermore, it is a convenient stay facility.
