Dusk to Dawn is a spacious country house in the most southern tip of Mpumalanga, the "Place of the Rising Sun". Dusk to Dawn is situated on an attractive 1800 hectare farm, with a variety of farming activities. These include a large modern piggery, dairy, beef farming, maize and timber. Viewing of these different activities is possible by arrangement.
The hosts have turned their family home into a friendly and welcoming half-way stop for tourists and visitors on the N2 en route from the Kruger National Park or Gauteng to the KwaZulu-Natal north coast or vice versa. The Engelbrechts are fifth generation descendants of German missionaries who settled in this area in 1870 and German is still spoken at home.
Accommodation comprise 6 units and can accommodate up to 19 guests in total. Each unit is fully air conditioned, has tea and coffee making facilities, a mini-bar and selected DStv.
All breakfasts at Dusk to Dawn are served with a generous helping of good cheer. From the moment that guests walk into the sun-washed dining room in the morning, they can expect to be lavished with a variety of fine food. Guests can choose from an extensive menu while listening to the chattering chorus of Dusk to Dawn’s many birds.
For dinner, guests can delve into our country deli or order a bountiful picnic basket. The wide variety of choice in meals offers even the most adventurous palate something to enjoy. All meals are freshly prepared every week. These meals can be enjoyed either in the comfort of your own room or in the garden room overlooking the pool or the wooden deck in the lower garden. If guests prefer the comfort of their own room or cottage, they can enjoy it in their own private dining area. All dining areas are equipped with luxury cutlery and crockery, a fridge and microwave should you need to warm something up.
For children the garden is an absolute amusement park featuring a solar-heated swimming pool, a tree house with adjoining jungle gym, and a hammock. 'Johnny’s Arc' offers kids an opportunity to get into close contact with a large variety of farm animals such as chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks, sheep and goats.

The establishment is clean and the service is great. The breakfast was.
Sent us directions, all necessary info and dinner options well in advance. Arrived to a beautiful cottage with extra touches like some sherry and delicious homemade rusks, as well as a delicious meal. We were super impressed and will definitely be back!
We stayed at Dusk to Dawn Farm Guest House for only one night as we were driving to Southern Mozambique. We chose the location as it is just outside of Piet Retief and away from the noisy N2. The farm the guest houses are situated on are picture perfect and a welcome break after a few hours on the road. Since the guest house was not full, we were upgraded to units next to the dam which were amazing. Our kids, 11 and 13, loved the space to play some soccer and interact with the farm animals. The highlight of the stay was definitely the breakfast. Would come back just for that.
Gudrun welcomed us as old friends. The cottage was perfect, comfortable and clean, with a private terrace and luxury bed linen and bathroom. The choice of supper dishes were great. Starters, mains, cheese and deserts, all fresh prepared and delicious. Whenever we're in the neighbourhood, we would like to stay in place and walk around in Gudrun's rose garden.
Beautiful farm with very nice views, gardens and a lot of extra effort with everything, would spend the night there again anytime!

The rose garden is an absolute must-see. The view is picture-perfect and the friendly reception and delicious meals make it difficult to drive away again. The units are spacious, comfortable and have everything you need. I will definitely bring my family next time.
Dusk to Dawn is a beautifully situated guesthouse between hills in a rural setting. We enjoyed the rhythm and sounds of the peaceful farm life, and the friendly welcome of the hostess. Our beautiful cottage was well equipped and very clean. The big breakfast the next morning was delicious - made from the eggs that our daughter herself went looking for in the chicken coops after feeding the alpacas! We will definitely stay there again if we are in the area. Thank you very much for your kind hospitality.
We were received very kindly, and enjoyed the peaceful farm visit very much. The rooms are perfectly equipped with the highest quality furniture and linen, the food was delicious and the room comfortable and warm. Wonderful views, lots of animals to look at and nice farm atmosphere. We felt like royalty! Would definitely recommend it.
