We enjoyed the privacy, tranquility, sound of waves as well as the accommodating of the owner who met our needs every step of the way. In fact, she went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. We also enjoyed the fact that a gas heater was available as it was rather chilly. Much appreciated.

Good location and quiet with a complete DSTV package meant that, when at home, we could watch TV in peace after the day.

It was a lovely and peaceful visit in an exquisite and stylish unit across from our favorite lobster restaurant. The beautiful paintings in each room added to the tasteful decor. The hostess's restaurant suggestions were spot on with delicious fish dishes.

Would recommend, was nice but just a few points. The house is divided into 3 units and the room of 1 is by the braai visiting area of 2 and the bathroom windows. Security has at the door that one can sleep with the door open. There were no beer glasses either. But other than that it is very beautiful.

Great place, but the bed was super uncomfortable. We even had to turn it over to sleep better. I actually feel a bit lost because it says the place has a king size bed, but actually has a queen size bed. The main reason I booked the place was for the king size bed, to our disappointment. So actually feel like I paid for something I didn't get. I would like the hostess's feedback and an explanation as to why she is advertising it this way if it is not? We had a nice stay and the place was neat and had everything you need. The kitchen could do with a bit of an update with some of the pans being rusty so we couldn't use them at all. I do have photos as evidence too. The grill was so dirty that I probably had to clean it myself for an hour before we could even think about grilling. So maybe just pay attention to that too. I think she should mention that there is a restaurant directly opposite you and you don't have the sea view as you expect you will have. Make it clear in the description and add a photo so people know about it. Other than that everything was okay. Hostess was also not as great as everyone says she is. Actually think she's pretty short.
The stay was comfortable but advertised as on the beach, without any mention of a busy restaurant between it and the beach. Needs fumigation to get rid of the biggest cockroaches I've ever seen!

Shade net, especially for sun and rain, tiles in shower are loose - a risk of cutting feet when showering. Unit very comfortable but very hot and needs cooling. Toilet seat is loose and therefore uncomfortable. Furthermore, the stay was very pleasant and we would highly recommend it.
Did not meet the owner or manager, but someone came and opened it for us. The lady on the phone was friendly and helpful. Would stay there overnight again.

Had a fantastic breakaway in the ground unit on the side. Had everything we needed in the unit and we woke up to a beautiful view of the ocean each morning. Jax was great at communicating and we were central enough to walk everywhere. Even the waterfront was only a 15-minute walk away.

D.V. Engelhijs is one of the most beautiful, perfectly located units we have ever stayed in. The unit's decor is elegant/beautiful, and you have everything you need to have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It is a self-catering unit with everything you will need. Good location, across the road you are at the beach, there is also an incredibly nice restaurant, Die Voorstrandt Restaurant, opposite the unit, delicious food and atmosphere. We will definitely visit there again and recommend it.

Accommodation was beautiful on the beach. The owner was very friendly. The view of the beach stunning. If peace and quiet is what you looking for this is the perfect place to go to.
The biggest problem is the people were good peddlers and they stand and watch you in your bed from the street and refuse to walk if you tell them no you are not interested. They will stand there around your car or by the wall and watch you all day long even when you are sleeping in bed. Don't feel safe like that.

Lovely, furnished apartment a stone's throw from the sea. Very comfortable and spacious rooms and bathrooms. As indicated, it is just behind the Voorstrand Restaurant so there is quite a lot of movement from staff, customers and street vendors throughout the day. But you won't just get closer to the sea.

Everything was good, shower was dirty and clogged and wouldn't drain. Other than that, everything was great. Would love to come again.
We enjoyed our stay, the position of the cottage is excellent, it is quiet and peaceful. When we had a problem with the electricity, due to loadshedding, it was sorted immediately, thank you Vanessa. A little disappointed that there was no servicing in the cottage over the 4 days, not even to empty the bins, otherwise no complaints.

D.V. Engelhijs was by far the most expensive accommodation we had on our West Coast tour. The place is small, but has everything one needs, and our stay was comfortable.
Indoor fireplace/braai out of order and the wind sometimes came in past the hanging cupboard in front of the hole which was uncomfortable for ladies.
The unit we stayed in is ideal for a couple. Hostess made sure we were aware of the load shedding schedule. The little problems that there were were sorted out immediately.
Bathroom is very small. Safety is certainly a source of concern. Braai area is across the unit next to bathrooms/toilet. We chose not to use the facilities.
Only a couple of things that would need improvement. The sponge to clean the dishes was really worn out and could have been replaced prior to the guest arriving.
We felt uncomfortable about the bunch of boys who constantly wanted to sell us their shells and sat in front of the house all day (because the restaurant is opposite and lots of visitors come to it).
Unfriendly reception by host. She apologised afterwards which we accepted.
Too bad the towels weren't at least replaced every day.
For the next incident and "cherry on the cake" the owner apologized and reimbursed us for one night's stay, which we really appreciate - about 20:20 the last night all wall plugs kicked out and the owner was unreachable. It turned out the next morning after many messages and calls since the night before that she was gone and left a key with someone just in case, but neglected to let us know. Stay was disappointing. Shower was clogged the first morning, luckily my husband was able to open it. Water pressure weak. Two used soaps (no!) in the soap tray at the bottom of useless "shower caddy" had to put shampoo and shower soap on the floor (which doesn't look like waffles). A hook or two in the bathroom would be welcome. Toilet seat loose. Top sheet stained. Do not leave carpet clean. Freezer part of fridge needs defrosting and cleaning and handles of fridge doors were dirty, wiped clean before use. Outside hangout area is right in front of unit next door's bathroom windows, where people were for the first two days. Street vendors really annoying.

Beautiful, stylish unit, just across the road from the sea. The Voorstrand Restaurant is just diagonally across the road, which is very convenient. Everything we needed was there. The kitchenette is well equipped. Although the unit is actually very small, the furniture and its arrangement gives a sense of space. The unit is tastefully decorated with beautiful oil paintings throughout. The kitchen has more than enough crockery and glasses - I was impressed with the good quality pots and pans, and was able to make nice food. We had a delicious barbecue also with a lovely sea view. This unit has absolutely everything needed for self catering. There are white bed linens and everything is nice and clean. Our hostess is friendly and went out of her way to make our holiday plans work.

What an incredible place to relax and unwind. The beach at your doorstep and a restaurant across the street (not noisy at all). The amenities of the village is a short drive or walk away. Everything was perfect and we had a wonderful, enjoyable stay. The unit was open plan, very much like a studio apartment, but nicer because of the lovely patio with braai, where we relaxed most of the time. It was safe and comfortable for 2 people. Tastefully furnished and decorated. Absolutely sublime.

The unit is amazingly well kept and neat. Very well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay. Close to the beach and restaurants. Quiet little town which makes it perfect for a relaxing getaway. Great communication from the host. Would highly recommended.
The only problem is when the other guests make a fire we had to close the room and bathroom windows. This causes the place to be very hot, a standing fan would have helped a lot. Very pleasant stay, will use it again.
All that was a problem was the water in the showers. It runs very slowly and the flow is weak. It takes a long time to e.g. wash hair and rinse off conditioner. It will also help if the front door has a security gate on it. Then you can leave the door open without fear of someone slipping and stealing (or worse).
Due to Covid we were more limited in our unit than we expected. The unit therefore felt smaller due to all the time we had to spend in it. And the sink is very small, and only 1, so difficult to wash dishes. Under normal circumstances this would not have hindered.
View of the sea with Voorstrandt Restaurant just opposite is a big bonus. We also received a warm and friendly welcome from Jax and would recommend the place wholeheartedly!

All negatives are that there wasn't enough toilet paper and the dishwasher didn't have salt in it - it had a smell.
We were in Paternoster for a few days and DV Engelhijs is located on the beach so to speak. We really enjoyed it in the West Coast village and will definitely come back and use DV Engelhijs again.

My daughter and I had a wonderful 2 night stay at D.V. Engelhijs. The apartment was clean and spacious with beautiful ocean views, perfect for 2 guests. Luxurious linen and towels provided. Lovely patio with built in barbecue, table and chairs with cushions for extra comfort, perfect for sundowners! We spent 3 comfortable nights at D.V. Engelhijs. The compact open-plan beach unit (there are two other units with separate sleeping facilities also available) in which we stayed (kitchen/sleep/sitting) is very neat with beautiful decor. The en suite bathroom with a shower is small but comfortable. The barbecue patio with a view of the sea is private enough to enjoy your morning coffee outside. You are a stone's throw from the beach and if you don't feel like going far for dinner, Voorstrandt Restaurant is just across the street. Jax, our hostess was very friendly and went out of her way to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We definitely recommend this unit.

D.V. Engelhijs' location is perfect. We were very well received. You can walk everywhere you want to go and the restaurant which is right across the road is also very convenient. We could go for a nice walk along the sea. Would recommend people to vacation there anytime.
The place is just very small with really no space. It's actually a bachelors apartment because your bedroom, living room and kitchen are all in one, so it's very small for a long vacation for 2 people. Perhaps it should be advertised as such. You must also place your bags on floor space. There is no laundry line, I see the laundry rack under the table where the TV is. There is no space if you want to hang something in the evening. You can't sit it outside and drive, the locals and children are busy all day in the street selling shell arrangements, fish and lobster. We were warned that we had to be careful and lock everything up. Both units' toilet windows are right on your braai area, which was not very nice. But the place is very neat.
The unit is very nicely furnished, neat and clean. The location is fantastic! You can just walk across the street and you are on the beach. Our two-year-old son was welcomed with open arms and it is very difficult to find places that accommodate children and for that we are very grateful.

The only thing that bothered us was the fact that the kettle was dirty and the shower was blocked and not clean. Fantastic and a lovely weekend.

Full DStv package with flat screen TV is a big bonus. It's just a few meters across from the beach. De See Kat restaurant belongs to the couple. I must say their sushi and oysters were fresh and of good quality. We enjoyed the meal. They provided good service at the restaurant, as well as house D.V. Engelhijs! Both places have a good view of the beach/sea. Would love to visit again, for a nice getaway. We also supported the local children with their arts and crafts that they make from seashells, etc. to earn something. It's understandable for a remote fishing village, where work is scarce. Place and location is well located in Paternoster! Thank you guys.
The accommodation was fantastic, but unfortunately the weather didn't play along.
You can't get any closer to the sea! Accommodation offers everything you need for a self-catering weekend, but also close to good restaurants for a dining out treat.
A bit more expensive than other accommodation but worth it based on the location, upmarket furnishings and comfort.
It's a comfortable spacious room. Tidy. Walking distance to many restaurants. Long beach to walk on.

Porch overlooking the sea, television, comfortable bed and sofas, beautiful paintings and comfortable bed and bedding. We will definitely go there again for a nice break.
We will definitely stay at D.V. again. Engelhijs goes home. The apartment is very conveniently located, beautifully located and super central. The sleeping facilities were the best we have ever experienced and very comfortable.

This is a beautiful guest house with everything you could possibly need for your holiday. The finish and furniture are very luxurious, the verandas are lovely to visit with beautiful views over the bay and everything is literally within walking distance.

Quiet accommodation right on the beach, the unit has everything you need for self-catering accommodation and there are also braai facilities. We had a great stay!
Perfectly located opposite the Voorstrand restaurant, with a nice view of the beach. In Jacki and Eddie you couldn't ask for better hostess and host. Definitely try their De See Kat restaurant. The unit we had was smaller than we expected, but was good enough for a short visit/a weekend. The fact that there is full DStv at least helped. A few cosmetic things: no dish soap, very small bath towels, not enough toilet paper. Was nevertheless a very nice visit.
Road directions very good and the reception very hospitable. Room very neat and all necessities available. Lovely to fall asleep to the sea and wake up again. Very centrally located and everything within walking distance. Definitely a place I would recommend and visit again to experience total peace of mind and peace. Their restaurant, Die Seekat, is undoubtedly worth a visit for a delicious meal.
I would stay with D.V again anytime. Engelhijs goes home. The view is fantastic.
The unit unfortunately feels squeezed between the main building and the house next door. However, the unit is very well equipped with all equipment. Unfortunately, the braai is built too close to the unit which causes the smoke and ash to blow into the unit. There was a banging noise above the unit which the owner could not sort out and was terribly annoying throughout the night. We packed up 2 days earlier and went looking for another place to continue our vacation.
Rooster was baie vuil kon nie op hom braai nie. Televisie was 2 dae stukkend. 7 dae dieselfde handoeke in die nat Kaap. Geen skoonmaakdiens Asblik was vir 7 dae nie skoongemaak of vloer was nie gevee. Vloer kan doen met topping net sement.
Our stay at D.V.Engelhijs was pure pampering! The unit is very tastefully furnished and also well equipped. Everything is very neat. The location is ideal with only the street separating the beach. Sea view from the bed! What more can one ask for. We are also privileged to enjoy a delicious midday meal at the owners' restaurant, De Seekat. Everything is top notch and we will definitely visit again.

Each unit is equipped with a TV, and has its own entrance, as well as a private patio and braai area. The units are equipped with linen and bath towels. Guests have access to off-street parking in front of the house.
Paternoster offers a variety of activities, such as sailing, wind-surfing, horse riding, kayaking and e-bikes. Guests can visit Cape Columbine Nature Reserve situated 20 minutes away, and the West Coast Nature Reserve situated 45 minutes away. For the golf enthusiasts, there is a golf course in Langebaan which is half an hour away, and 1 in Shelley Point which is 20 minutes away.
