Host rather unfriendly on arrival - just interested in the money. Stairs to room - dirty and smelly carpets - safety risk, looks like loose carpets draped on stairs. Shabby lampshades on sides of bed. Old food stuck on table cloth on table next to bed. Curtains torn. Filthy cupboard for clothes, paper on shelves has known better days. Dirty heater panel against the wall - full of blue marks. Bed linen not ironed. Towels hard and "used up" - appear shabby and has an awful smell to it. Water outlet of zink in room, blocked - water takes long to run out. Notice of water saving against the wall, very shabby and Prestik shows as fatty spots. "Kitchen area": greasiness around power plug on the wall (previous cooking probably, not cleaned properly).
Our reservation was made for 2 adults and 1 child of 7 years and the reservation was thus confirmed. Our self-catering unit only had one double bed and no bed for my child. It was quite uncomfortable to sleep for 3 nights. Furthermore, the unit was adequately equipped.
Nothing was too much trouble for Marius and Annemarie. Very friendly en helpful.
We said from the beginning that my daughter was 16 and they made us understand that this was sufficient accommodation. If you pull out the sofa, you have to fold the table. There is no seat when the sofa is pulled out. The fridge is so small it can't hold a bottle of milk upright and the people were more worried about their dog getting out the gate than their guests' comfort. They were also more focused on whether they had already received their money, than the reasons for our early departure.
My experience at Eagles Rest was very disappointing to say the least. I moved out after a weekend (I was there for a month booked and paid.) I feel the owners are not aware of what happens in B&B and leave the staff with assignments to manage the place. You also get the feeling that the least is being done to maintain the place (a little paint and Handy Andy will do wonders.) And after I moved out already 10 days, I had to tell the owner they weren't even aware that I no longer live there. After complaining about cockroaches and bugs biting me in bed I had to hear that they can't understand that it bothers me because I'm an outdoorsy person? I couldn't believe my ears.
Will definitely recommend to friends and use the service again. Easy and convenient.
A safe environment and definitely value for money. The self-catering unit is well furnished, will definitely stay there again in the future.
