12 guests' feedbackThe place is beautiful. Couldn't get enough of the view. The host even helped us get the fire started. She was very friendly.
Awesome, awesome. So glad I came across the place. It is peaceful and so beautiful. Helen is very friendly and made us feel at home.
Great, the host was fantastic, and we all had a great time.
I highly recommend staying at the Eco Fox Den if you travel to Hogsback. Helen is a lovely host who goes above and beyond to make your stay memorable and is ready to assist with any queries. The solar energy and donkey boiler ensured that we forgot what load shedding was for the weekend.
If it wasn't for Helen's recommendations, we would never have discovered the gems of Hogsback that we have! Driveway and parking are not that easy to pass for a low car, and the apartment we were in is below the main house with a split plank floor. It won't be ideal for everyone, but it didn't bother us. There is another unit on the premises which is away from the main house. Should you prefer it instead, inquire. Beautiful place, everything you need and also a nice coal stove for the cold. Most beautiful views!
Very nice stay. Most beautiful scenery.
Sleeping 6 is a very tight squeeze. The concept is great, but the finishes are very rough and incomplete. There is no running water in the basin in the second bathroom. The owner received constructive criticism well and said they would implement the suggestions made. Although I think the daily rate is high for what the den has to offer, we had a pleasant stay. The views are breathtaking, and we loved watching the moon come up over the mountains from the veranda.
We had a really lovely stay overall, and this review is meant to be honest so that future guests aren't taken by surprise as we were. On arrival, our host moved us to the cabin because the Den was underneath the main house (not shown in photos) and filled with wasps. Our host was very kind and accommodating. Supper was provided per request on the Friday night at a small additional fee and was very nice. We were told about all the local attractions and given directions to a waterfall on the property. We were disappointed by small things such as small holes in the blankets and no microwave for heating up food. The road to get to the accommodation was also very bad, and we struggled a bit with our Polo Vivo. If it had rained, we would not have been able to make it in our car. We would have appreciated some warning on the website or from the host. We were also kept up with dogs barking late into the night and a rooster crowing at 4am. We really enjoyed the effort our host put into making the cabin eco-friendly. We were even allowed access to our hosts' garden, which was filled with herbs. On our last day, we were joined on the deck by a very lovable cat who enjoyed some warm tea and fantastic views of the Hogsback mountains with us. We really did enjoy our stay and spent most of our time sightseeing and visiting waterfalls recommended by our lovely host. The cabin allowed us to have a comfortable and relaxing evening where we could rest up for the following day.
The road is just very bad. We struggled to drive home in a regular vehicle. Would love a TV for the cold evening.
Interesting, unique and earth-friendly.
We had a wonderful stay at Eco Fox Den, a few things were not as they should be eg: There were not enough glasses, also no sharp knife, no braai tray for meat. The curtains don't close the windows completely and then there are some windows that don't have curtains at all that draw etc. quite uncomfortable. For people with small children: there are some large dogs that roam freely on the premises, but they are very friendly! The road is also not suitable for all vehicles. We were received very kindly and immediately told about all the "gems" around Hogsback.
Eco Fox Den is definitely centrally located in relation to all the hiking trails that are in Hogsback. The dirt roads need attention and would recommend it with a 4x4 vehicle especially if it has been raining. The cottage has an earthy feel and if you only want the essentials, this is the place to be. The charcoal stove is definitely a winner.
