We stayed one night, and everything was clean.
They have a cat problem that keeps wanting to grab your food. You can't have a relaxing barbecue without the cats getting in the way.
We didn't stay. We got there, unpacked, debated the horrible smell of the room, and the fact that it felt unsafe. Then we booked a new place, packed up, and went to the new place. The bedding was clean. However, it's more suited to groups of adults who are travelling than families with toddlers.
We got there and unpacked. Looked at the bed on bricks, lay down on it and was unsteady. The fridge had a strong unpleasant smell. Also had to look for the owners as their doors were locked. Would not recommend it at all.
The room was comfortable enough, but it was not clean.
It was very clean and peaceful, and the animals that came to say hello every morning were cute to us. But the location was very bad for a stopover on the way to Cape, very far out of the way, and not close to any places to eat. There aren't really any facilities to make our own food either, so we had to drive quite a distance to the nearest restaurant.
This place is not what it looks like in the pictures. The swimming pool looked so beautiful in the pictures, but in reality, it is so unattractive; the water was so green. None of us wanted to swim. The TV is outdated and not working, and the place looked dirty. There is a sign in the bathroom which says washing hands saves lives, but there was no hand soap. The base of the bed is on the floor. None of us bothered to even take a shower in the morning; we could not wait to leave. The people are friendly; that's the only positive thing about this place.
There were guests who drank and got drunk and cursed each other very badly and wanted to fight. We did not feel safe. There is no caretaker who silenced or put guests at ease. Trash bins were also not cleaned and animals roam around looking for food from the guests? Couldn't shower either because there is no water pressure.
The owners are very friendly, but only speak English. It's not a problem, but you just have to be aware, because messages in Afrikaans outside of the platform are not answered. The place is perfect. It's outside the industrial area of Bloem. Gut close to the tarmac and the bit of dirt road is not too bad. The entrance is paved. Many improvements can be made by just paying attention to small details. E.g. the units are similar to makeshift classrooms from my primary school days so get hot quickly and there is no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan, but the fan didn't work properly, so the only other option for cooling off in the heat was the pool. It would have been enough if only they were ready for the tourist season. Unfortunately, the pool was green and only half full. There had also been a dust storm in the afternoon and the whole unit would probably have been covered in a layer of dust if we hadn't sealed the slot under the door with bags and towels. After the time, no one came to see if we needed help cleaning. It's a small thing, but would have made a difference to the experience. The walls of the units are also very thin so you are aware of the other people in the units around you. I would not recommend the place for families on vacation. Maybe just for a place to sleep for someone on a business trip or a quick stopover on a tour somewhere.
Their dog barked all night so we didn't get a very good rest. The fan switch also fell apart.
Room was very hot and humid, there wasn't a fan or aircon. There were a lot of bugs in the room and the shower was moldy.
We checked in on Thursday for 4 nights (5 adults, 1 high school, 1 elementary school child, and a 3 year old baby). The other friends checked in on Saturday (2 adults and 1 high school kid). So I have quite a few points that I want to bring to your attention: 1. Very unsafe, no safe parking for vehicles. 2. No privacy, workers who keep walking on site by guests while sitting and barbecuing, no privacy at the bathroom of house 2. 3. Water was a big problem, no hot water on Friday morning, the rest of the time everyone had to take turns showering, not good water pressure. 4. Shower is not clean at all. 5. No cleaning services as advertised. 6. No wash basin, mop, broom, etc. to tidy up and clean it myself was not available, and the ones that were asked and received after the time were very dirty. No facilities to cook yourself. 7. The 6-Sleeper, did not have complete cutlery. 8. The big bins outside were never cleaned, they overflowed with the rubbish, in front of the house, very untidy. 9. House number 2's fridge only worked the freezer compartment. 10. The braai area was only cleaned once during our entire stay. 11. We received only 1 roll of toilet paper each for the entire 4 days per cottage. 12. Wifi signal was very bad. 13. The swimming pool was grass green, could not use it at all. 14. The children's swings etc. is broken, could not use it. This is definitely not worth a 4 star.
