Great location on the Vaal.
There was no electricity n we had to use our phone to light bt the lady next they have gaven her the light it was terrible.
We had a wonderful stay; our reception was warm and helpful. The housekeeping staff was good except for one lady who was very hostile to us (the receptionist knows her because I complained about her). She wanted to force us to leave the property at 10 am after checking out, and I refused. We sat at the braai area. The same lady doesn't have manners, customer service, and communication skills. She even entered my room while I was dressing, and I was very taken aback by her behaviour. On Saturday, the very same lady had an issue with the receptionist for borrowing us chairs to sit outside.
Upon my arrival we were received immediately and professionally. However, the unit (16) had a strong, unpleasant smell of smoke (grilling wood) in the room. In the evening there was a wedding reception right next to our room and continued until 11 o'clock. The generator competed with the music to be the loudest. After loadshedding (20:00-22:00) the power did not arrive until 8:30 the next morning.
Economical accommodation. Gardens are beautiful. Bedding needs updating.
The stay was not good as we didn't have hot water to use, and the place had a lot of spiders.
Was there on a very cold night. Blankets not enough. There is an electric blanket on the bed - not working. There is a panel heater on the wall - not working! Why do you have these things if they are not working! There was no electricity and no water. They claimed it's load shedding at a time when no load shedding was scheduled.
Not a place I would recommend. Lovely scenery, the rooms are nice but there is water damage. Safety is very low with anyone having access to the premises.
Nabours was noisy, tried phoning the manager at 22h00. phone was off.

Unit was immaculately clean and perfectly located. Reception was very friendly and helpful. The silence with the roar of the river was tranquility for the soul.
On the Vaal River, very beautiful. The units are very spacious, really liked the shower head, (never seen such a shower head before.) The mattress is somewhat worn, maybe time to replace it. Was very comfortable with restaurant on site. Safety may be an issue as strange people may pass along the river. Overall a very nice stay. Will discuss again in unit 16.
The area was very nice and safe, the rooms were very neat and the staff at reception were friendly. The only problem was the shortage of water on Sunday morning. We couldn't shower and neither could the children. It was a problem after a wedding.
The water next to us that runs like that makes you so peaceful. Beautiful view and a peaceful environment.

Water was off at the time of power that was off, would like water, can do without power. Main entrance's gate was open all the time, so anyone can just walk in or drive in. Very nice place, had a great time. Staff are very friendly and very helpful, no matter what goes wrong.

Short a lot of work, for the price a no.
The swimming pool was filthy, there were empty beer bottles and dirty nappies left strewn all over the place. As we walked through the venue, there were empty beer bottles left lying around. There was a group of guests falling all over the lawn in front of the river and making excessive noise, which we were told would only be asked to quieten down after 11pm. Everyone should be allowed to enjoy the facility equally!
Carpet in room soaking wet. Roof leaks. Katurine smells prominently. Refrigerator not working. Dirty curtain. Barbecue area does not have a chimney. Braai area full of ash, dirt and previous guests' things still lying around. Stay away instead.

The highlight for me was the gin bar where I had the best gin cocktail ever.
Only bad event is that they allow incredibly loud music after 10 and it was uncomfortable and we had trouble sleeping.
However, whilst sleeping we heard someone fiddling with the front door handle.
I booked a river view unit and was very pleased with the tranquil setting. There were two reasons for booking at Egweni 1. WiFi 2. The larger units seem to have tables that I could work from. When I arrived neither were present; however the staff made a plan - they brought me a desk and chair, and provided me with a room to access the WiFi for work as needed. Minor maintenance issues / queries were also attended to promptly. The accommodation is basic but comfortable and I had really good restful night's sleeps with the sound of the Vaal in the background.
Room 15 and 16 were without water, and 16 did not have a kettle to boil water. Room 8 has no ventilation.
Very relaxed, enjoyed the spa - helpful staff.
Bed is full of bugs. Floors are dirty. The wet towels were not changed after I asked. No lighting for load shedding. Didn't have load shedding schedule. Neighbors chat so loudly you can't sleep. The public can enter the lodge's grounds without using an entrance. Didn't want to sell me ice cream.

We had a wonderful weekend at Egweni's. Their restaurant has the best food at reasonable prices. Even the bar is very nice. Everything was just perfect. We also booked a picnic basket. Egweni upgraded our room to a unit with a fireplace because it was a bit rainy. The photos do not do the lodge justice. The places are nicely furnished and are on the banks of the river. Will definitely visit Egweni again.

The photos on the website are very deceiving. Terrible accommodation. Couldn't shower in our unit, either piping hot or ice cold, no in between, tiny bed, takes 10 flushes of the toilet to finally clear the bowl, bathroom light wasn't working on arrival, no milk or Cremora in the room, had to ask for toilet paper. Poor lady at reception trying her best but there wasn't anything she could do to fix the shower etc. Our front door opened onto the parking lot, no privacy if the door was open, no patio or outside seating area. Different size rooms for the same price, wasn't fair. There should be clearer understanding of what you're getting when you book. We really did not enjoy our stay at all. Won't be back or recommend.

Here and there there is room for improvement to the building, otherwise very neat and beautiful. No complaints! The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed our time at the lodge, very relaxing.
Very nice environment. Value for money. Just needs a decent cleaning. Parking space at the unit was not guaranteed as other guests parked wherever they wanted. Maybe they can mark off parking for each unit. We weren't sure about safety either, as the gate was open the whole time.

Beautiful river views and staff were super friendly and helpful. Not a lot to do with kids, but a relaxing night away. Budget friendly and close to town.
Overall it was fair, the housekeeping service was very poor, we had to call the manager on Saturday to clean our unit as the cleaners forgot to clean our unit - then we had to wait at our unit whilst they cleaned the unit as they didn't have a key to lock our unit. It was my wife's 40th birthday this weekend hence the trip and the unwillingness of the staff to clean our unit left a bitter taste on the overall beauty of the lodge. Over and above that there was no power and water at the lodge which was unpleasant. Plus no staff was on duty when we arrived. The manager (I think) gave us the key for our room and mentioned that there is no water and electricity currently.
After my reservation I was informed that we were being moved to other rooms due to availability, it was said that the rooms had the same amenities, this was not the case at all. There were no braai facilities in our new rooms. It was where everyone parked, so you were woken up early by vehicles going in and out. We were also further away from the river, with not even a porch to sit outside. The rooms in question are for overnight stays and not for a long weekend.
Neat and everything you need close to everything with the river flowing right there.
