El Yolo One is a working Karoo guest farm situated at the foot of the Swartberg mountain range in the Great Karoo. Our guests are able to come into close contact with a variety of farm animals such as cattle, sheep, turkeys, ducks, geese, peacocks and chickens. Please note that the route to El Yolo One includes a gravel road of approximately 30 km.
Accommodation includes a variety of rooms and chalets to choose from, and each unit features electric blankets, wall heaters, kettles, safety boxes. In addition, all rooms have a bathroom, swimming pool towels and complimentary wood for the fireplace and braai facilities. All rooms have spectacular views of the surrounding Swartberg Mountain range.

The mountain cottage is privately situated in stunning surroundings. The finish is a unique combination of rustic and extremely comfortable, with everything that one needs (including no TV and no WiFi) for a wonderful stay. Helene and Michael are incredible hosts who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and ensure that we had an excellent time there. The little extras, like freshly baked bread, were much appreciated. If you are looking for a remote place to stay that is comfortable and homely, then El Yolo One is for you! Do yourself a favour and try it out!
We stayed in the mountain chalet, completely private, ideal for people looking for something different from the usual accommodation. Light snow and sleet in the early morning. Warm blankets, electric warm sheets and wood dust make it a lovely stay. Wood for stove was provided. We didn't come up short.

Yes. The farm is very beautiful, service was friendly, aloes bloomed very nicely and the area is very beautiful.
My partner and I and his son stayed over. Due to very wet areas we could not go walking in the veld to see the waterfall or rock paintings etc. We were surprised by Helene with a lovely warm bread which we polished before our braai. All staff was very friendly and helpful and thanks for all the wood. The amenities were great but just 2 things that I would add/change if I was in charge there. At the steps of the Mountain Cottage at night - there are no lights to see where to step if you are at the braai area and want to go inside to collect goods - we used our camping light which we put on the top steps to show light down the steps. And the bathroom - a cool idea but slightly impractical- when you shower all your clothes, shoes, other bath goods are wet as the water sprays all over the area - a square or round frame around the top area with a curtain hanging down would help - no problem with anything else in the bathroom except that one's clothing etc. gets wet. Other than that we enjoyed the time there and would like to return when it's a little drier to be able to enjoy the outside sights.

The 5 sleeping units are well equipped and the linen, blankets and towels of excellent quality. We stayed 4 nights and did an activity on the farm every day. Visit El Yolo if you want to spend time with your children. There is no internet, so no distractions. Go for walks, swim and take naps. You will be surprised how good it is for your soul and for your relationship with your children. However, you must be prepared to do the activities with young children.
Enjoyed the tranquility and the awesome view with some game walking past. Enjoyed the short 4x4 route.

Very nice camping if you like off the beaten track camping. All the basic amenities are there. Would not recommend for low vehicles. Preferably high clearance vehicles. No need for 4x4 where we camped.

We really enjoyed our stay. The kids could run free and ride their bikes, etc. The only issue was the lack of signal, and we use our phone for business quite frequently. Other than that, it was lovely.

The mountain house is a lovely, cozy place to stay with very nice views. Well equipped with everything you need. The Dover stuffing was a big favorite to make on food. The natural beauty only comes into its own when you go for a walk and explore the farm on foot. Thank you very much for 2 wonderful days.

You can both travel peacefully by just being, but you can also experience adventure with the 4x4 routes, or walk the same route calmly.
Reception was warm and personal, unit was more than adequate with beautiful view. Beautiful walking paths and 4x4 routes in unspoiled nature. Many bird species present. There is also a large and safe playground for children.
Place is clean and somewhat secluded. Each chalet is is a decent distance from each other so you won't need to interact with other guests. Pool is slightly small, but there is a big dam, one can swim in if you're willing to do a small hike to get there. The hike to the dam and waterfall is pretty easy to get through even for those who or not-so fit. The chalets are fitted with everything you need (fridges, utensils, mini oven and microwave, really nice bathrooms). You'll be able to see some animals every other hour (kudu, springbok, sheep, chicken, etc). Only downside is that you will need a vehicle with a decent amount of ride height to get over some of the mini-hills on the dirt road (only about 6 in total).

The Manager is a wonderful hostess and nothing was too much trouble. The cleaning staff were friendly and thorough. Perhaps some attention could be paid to maintenance. At least it didn't bother me too much and I will definitely visit there again.

Good service. Willem came to pick us up to drive together to the cave with the bushman drawings. We camped under the poplar forest which offered welcome coolness against the heat. The hot water donkey worked well after a nice hot day in the Karoo. At night it cools off nicely and a blanket is essential. There were no mosquitoes. Our dog also really enjoyed the visit.
I only slept one night in one of the single rooms - part of a trip from Vanderbijlpark to Vermont - I prefer back roads and quiet places to sleep over. Helene is a hostess par excellence and everything was neat and clean and the accommodation very comfortable. Suggestion: possibly put a small fan in the single rooms. I had a great time and will have to plan to go again and stay longer. I would still like to camp there too. Thank you Helene and Kara for a lovely evening.

We came to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary here just before Christmas and everyone who was there couldn't stop talking about how perfect the place was. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful, the accommodation is really tastefully furnished, the facilities are excellent, and the food is delicious. But what makes the place really fantastic is the manager, Helena. She goes out of her way to meet every need of her guests, and more. And she does it with such ease and grace; nothing feels like it's a hassle for her. I have never encountered such a host/wife anywhere else. Thank you, Helena! Thanks to you, my parents and the rest of our family and friends had a wonderful and unforgettable time.

My wife and I stayed for just one night. The place is an hour by dirt road outside Willowmore, but the dirt road is as good as tarmac, very well maintained. The manager is very friendly, and made us feel very comfortable and at home. Everything was well organized and our unit was ready when we arrived. They were also willing to accommodate any check-in time. The unit is neat and big, bathrooms neat and big. The views of the mountains and scenery were breathtaking. Breakfast the next morning was delicious. Will be able to recommend El Yolo One for sure.

We were crazy about the "remoteness" of the house. I would love to hide there again some day. The beds were really good quality and we were all crazy about the shower.
From the reception to our departure an absolute feast. The view and at night when you look up at the sky: stunning! Looks complete like stars painted in at night, so many and bright. The waterfall is wow! So between rock formations. Helene's service and hospitality is great and the food served is delicious! Highlight was definitely waking up on Sunday morning in the Mountain chalet and outside everything is covered with snow! Kids were so excited, it was a first for them. El Yolo One is definitely seeing us again and we recommend them without any hesitation! Thank you Helene and Willem.
Although the area is beautiful and quiet, the units are uncomfortably close to one another which means no privacy and you can't really enjoy the scenery. We really wanted to enjoy the isolation of the Karoo, but were disappointed. The place is well furnished, but a self-catering unit should have at least one small table, microwave oven, crockery and cutlery as well as facilities for washing up. This is entirely lacking.
The only problem was that the hot water in the unit was turned off and completely cold. The thermostat was allegedly replaced recently, but no-one tested the system to see that it works properly.
The landscape, hostess and cabin are absolutely amazing, the hike up to the cave paintings are absolutely worth it. Do not change a thing! This place is a winner!
Helene made our stay feel more like visiting old friends than staying in a lodge.
The chalets were very neat, luxurious and well equipped. The restaurant didn't meet our expectations and the swimming pool is very small. The gravel road to the farm is in disrepair and almost impassable with a standard sedan.
What a lovely place to relax, just be at peace and enjoy nature and hospitality. Very nice walking and paddling with our children and enjoying the beautiful starry sky in the evening. We will definitely stop by El Yolo One again if we are in the area.

We also have camping sites available, each with a private bathroom, electricity and water.
Guests have a choice of self-catering or restaurant facilities. We mainly serve traditional Karoo farm meals. The restaurant kitchen can also be made available to larger groups in a self-catering capacity. We do have a Wedding/ Conference venue. It can accommodate up to 120 guests.
The area is a photographer's dream, and the telescope facilities enable you to view the spectacular Karoo night skies. We also allow bass fishing, target shooting, rock climbing and mountain biking, provided you bring your own equipment. Swimming can be undertaken at the swimming pool next to the restaurant or in the farm dam.
We have tame and wild game such as eland, springbok, kudu and duiker and our bird life is extensive. Many wild and endangered flora have been spotted. We offer 4x4 routes for the experienced as well as the inexperienced. Hiking trails have been created for a more adventurous hiker or those who wish to take a casual walk. Fascinating Bushman rock paintings can be found in 3 different caves on the farm. Fossil spotting and unpolluted mountain streams and waterfalls are some of the unusual features of the farm.
Our climate is moderate in summer due to our proximity to the Swartberg, 1000 m above sea level. Some snowfalls can be expected in winter.
We have a trampoline, jungle gym, farm animals to feed and much more to keep the young ones happy, while parents keep an eye from the restaurant patio.
