The children really enjoyed the fresh air and animals.
The water supply was a problem. There was no hot water, as well as no pressure for any water supply. The WiFi pin in the room didn't work either.
No keys to lock the door in SA! The place is run down and in dire need of maintenance and management. The list of things wrong is so long. I would need another holiday. The staff were friendly, the beds were comfortable, and we slept well though.
Road to lodge in a very terrible condition. Loud music from other guests from 22:00 right through the night. No warm water to take a shower in the morning. Poor lighting around lodge. Light not working in front of the room where we had dinner.
Peaceful, stop-over with farm living.
We arrived well within the check-in time only to know our rooms were given to someone else. We got given the bottom unit and friends the top. The unit looked and smelled dirty and the building was not up to code in any way (exposed DB box, light fitting wire hanging from the ceiling, exposed screws that are sharp end sticking out). We slept on top of the duvet, fully clothed (bed sheet and duvet stains). Would never recommend this property to anyone. It's unsanitary and unsafe.
Accommodation and place very neglected. Roads very, very bad. Cannot get in touch with host or owner. Geyser not working.
Lights don't work. Water pipes broken. 2 days without power, and also without water. Water was drip-drip. Had to wash in a sink for 2 days where needed. No generator. The road there is impassable. But that cannot be held against the resort.
Farm surrounding area is beautiful. The accommodation itself is a mess. Buildings in desperate need of repair, roof leaking, no hot water, geyser not working. Gardens not maintained. Very untidy. Roads terrible. Cannot get in touch with owner on any number.
It is clean, their service was good and staff was friendly.
Didn't get the room we paid for. Staff didn't even ask who we were when we arrived just took us to a room we didn't book for. Road in bad condition. Reception room untidy.
Had a lovely peaceful weekend. Very quiet place, very comfortable. Staff are very helpful and considerate.
The hosts Elsie and Pieter are very helpful and friendly. A stayover to remember and the surrounding is beautiful with interesting history. Absolutely highly recommended.
Very helpful staff and owners. They took care of us like family.
We were kindly received by host Rohan who made an effort to make us feel at home.
Beautiful place and the host is very friendly and accommodating
Fantastic place for a stay over. The hosts were incredible, accommodating and very very friendly. There are animals to see and although they had load shedding on our stay, the food (which was delicious and very generous portions) was delivered to our door step on time and hot. I would most definitely recommend this guest farm for a stay over or visit.
We stayed over on our way to St Lucia and it was a wonderful experience. The monkeys crawl right onto ones heart. Everything was neat and clean and Elsie goes beyond the expected to make sure all ones needs and wants are met.
The farm atmosphere created a holiday destination in no time. The children really enjoyed all the animals.
Elsie and Pieter treated us like family. The braai was great, the room cleaned daily despite the fact that we slept in each day, and the view breathtaking. Elsie and Pieter clearly love animals and we really appreciated the time Elsie sacrificed to tell us more about the monkeys that she rescues and looks after. Due to the recent rains the road to Emahlathini has a lot of potholes, but you can eventually make it if you're patient. Another guest managed to get there with a small Kia Picanto! Can't think of anything negative.
Enjoyed the excellent braai and homemade boerewors! Good wine too. Beautiful scenery. Quiet location. Many animals and very friendly! We had a wonderful stay. Thank you Elsie for making our stay exceptional.
Bordering the mountains of Swaziland. Lovely tranquil guest farm house. Lots of friendly animals as geese, dogs, monkeys, emu , turkey , goats and much more. Excellent food. Braai recommended with homemade boerewors!! Elsie is an excellent and welcoming host!
Excellent value for money with wonderful, dedicated people.
We stopped at Emahlathini on our way to Kruger National Park from Richards Bay. Elsie received us very kindly and immediately made us feel at home. Sorry we couldn't stay longer. The children really enjoyed the dogs and monkeys. Although Piet Retief is much colder than we are used to, we slept wonderfully warm under the feather duvets and were rested to start our journey the next morning.
We had a wonderful stay, were really welcomed with open arms, and were able to make friends straight away. A beautiful place, certainly one I will use again.
We felt so at home there and were taken care of. Thank you very much!
The host couple of Emahlatini are genuinely hospitable and make an effort for their guests. The accommodation is clean and tidy. It is a good headquarters from which to visit Swaziland and the regions around Piet Retief.
We stayed at Emahlathini for business, but will definitely go back and explore the area and Swaziland further. We felt at home and even the pets make you feel welcome!
We would recommend to anyone! We enjoyed Elsie! Thank you for the delicious breakfast and hospitality!
The wonderful rooms and beautiful surroundings are supported by friendly staff. Nothing was too much trouble and we had to stop again for a cup of coffee on the way back from Swaziland... for two hours! Nice, nice people with a heart of gold. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, VERY well laid out and have everything we could need. When we stopped, our own barbecue fire was already burning and Piet and Elsie's sons offered to carry our bags in... service? No, just nice, nice people to hang out with. We look forward to our next visit in a few months when I bring friends from the Middle East to visit as only Piet and Elsie can. Thank you for all the extra arrangements for the rest of our time in South Africa!
We had a great time and just want to go back again soon. It was an experience to visit there. The people are very hospitable.
The perfect place to be away from city life.
It is a beautiful place.
