What does a traveler want from a guest house? Safe, quiet and clean. And Route Gastehuis offers all three. In addition, there is a friendly hostess and Vlakfontein is a true Free State farm with wide open spaces, blue skies, beautiful sunsets and bright shining stars. Thank you!

Our stay was absolutely perfect. It ticked all the right boxes from fast and friendly reception and check-in to comfortable, spacious, and clean.
Had a wonderful stay with our 2 little children. So much for them to do and to explore. The pool was such a win!
After a bad stretch of dirt road, thankfully not too long, we arrived at the gem of a place. There was no one at reception, but after a call we were kindly helped by a black lady. Our room had everything needed. All the doors are not locked, and one has free access to all parts. The place's gardens are incredibly beautiful. I wanted to swim, and the lady went to show me where the pool was, far where you have to walk. I then told my wife I wanted to swim without clothes, because it was too far to walk, which I did. The owner almost caught me in my Adams robe, was just in time. The owner is a beautiful helpful person. We had a great barbecue outside until very late. The next morning we woke up to rain and lovely fresh farm air. I would recommend this place to anyone!
The farm is beautiful and the view is breathtaking. The heated blankets were a pleasant surprise as the evening was cold.

I really enjoyed the tranquility of the place after the long, busy road. It's great that there is lighting during load shedding. It was an excellent overnight stay and could easily enjoy a few days of tranquility there.

Overall pleasant. Would recommend air conditioners to be added and a shower door, as the whole bathroom floor gets soaked when one takes a shower. The water pressure was also very low. Better coffee would be a bonus. And just to clean a bit behind the tables, chairs, and beds, as there were a lot of spiderwebs in the rooms. The pool is not easily accessible either.

We were very warmly received in the neat facilities and very beautiful farm environment. The afternoon jogging session on the farm was wonderful. Trompsburg with good places to eat is close by. A hand was quickly added to help me look at something under the car.

After a long day on the road, En Route was like an oasis. The room was clean and comfortable, the veranda heavenly and the communal kitchen and lounge facilities impeccable.

Accommodation is incredibly neat and there is enough space for large groups of people. It is just a short distance from the N1, and the ideal place for overnight stays in large groups, or small groups.

The room is well furnished and tidy. The dirt road there was exceptionally bad. Must mention that it rained for 2 days before our stay there. The power was out and we only received a small flashlight. A few candles would have helped. Even if it was only in the lobby and kitchen area. For a place that receives guests so many times. We were 6 different groups that night. Should have a generator available. No advance notice was given of the code to be keyed in at the gate. It is also difficult to see the keyboard where the code must be entered in the dark.

We had a quick overnight here on the farm, but the tranquility and millions of stars that could be seen at night made a lasting impression. We were received kindly despite arriving late. Great guest house for traveling en route to your destination. Clean, peaceful, we'll equipped and a beautiful setting. Just a note to bring own drinks and something to accompany your meal if you opt for a meal provided by the guest house.
The mobile phone tower in front of room 6 is not nice to look at on a farm. The single bed is very uncomfortable, even for children. However, we would still recommend it to anyone. Delicious meat packs for barbecue!

It's lovely to arrive on this beautiful farm away from the busy N1. It's not far though, but still peaceful and quiet. Clean and neat accommodation and the braai pack that we ordered was great.

Well positioned to overnight stop en route to Cape Town, having left Johannesburg at midday. Reception friendly and efficient. Rooms very comfortable and tastefully furnished. The braai pack was good value and great quality meat. The kitchen facility had everything one needed to prep and serve food. The communal dining area is spacious and well set out. We enjoyed walking on arrival and early in the morning. For those with young children there’s a great play area. For older children there are indoor games. We would definitely recommend En Route.

We really enjoyed our stay at En Route. Even though the power was off, Wilma went out of her way to assist us with all kinds of gas appliances and gave us complimentary braai packs for our inconvenience. The rooms are beautifully and comfortably furnished and the self catering kitchen is fully equipped. We will be back.
It's a lovely place out on a farm. Especially if you've been driving tired and need that rest chance. It's nice to know you can use the kitchen if you brought your own food to eat. Basically like a communal kitchen. The room was spacious, clean and tidy. Something I wasn't used to was the hard mattress. I would like a small fridge in the room for personal use. The bathroom was clean and tidy. The shower's drainage had been a little slow. But it could probably also be about the type of drainage system. The floor of the shower was a little slippery, but not bad.
The dirt road is very bad and with the rain even worse. The lady and her husband could be kinder. The power was out and there was no provision for a generator which is essential if you have clients who have traveled far. There was a gas stove for coffee. Fresh milk would have made a big difference because the powdered milk was old and wouldn't dissolve in the coffee. Also slept well.
If you want to buy food you have to go back to town to buy food. No bathroom or toilet in the room.
We stayed in Room 6 - Self Catering Unit. Two rooms, one is the bedroom with two single beds facing each other and air conditioning, the other room is equipped kitchenette and bathroom with shower. Very comfortable, neat and clean and definitely affordable. Quiet and peaceful on the farm. Friendly and professional reception by Wilma. Would definitely stay there again and can definitely recommend it.

Friendly, helpful hosts without being in your face and of course there's nothing to beat farm life, with all mod cons. Highly recommended, and would definitely return to repeat that experience.

The room was very hot and the bed very uncomfortable. The ventilation is definitely not adequate, although a fan is supplied and it is not enough. I would suggest heavier window coverings as there is too much light seeping through into the room. I think most people are light sensitive - especially after travelling all day, the traveler's intention by sleeping over is to get a good night's sleep, but with all the light that proved not to be the case.
In peaceful surroundings with good quality bed and linen. Electric blanket for the cold Bloemfontein weather was a bonus. Will use En Route Guest House again in the future as overnight accommodation.
Owners not present. Only domestic worker we received. Security a real problem as it is on a farm. No one to inform you about security situation. Although there is an electronic gate at the main entrance, there is no burglar alarm in front of doors and windows. Windows are out, outside doors don't lock, dogs eat you up with kindness and fencing around the house, gate is open all the time. Spent the night alone on the property. As a result, slept restlessly.

Our unit did not have a TV, which might have been more ideal for the children. A large courtyard and neat dining room ensure that you don't even notice that there are other visitors.

The bar fridge was perfect for us. Didn't even need to use the communal kitchen. Breakfast was more than enough. The children also really enjoyed the climbing frame, with the large lawn to run around. Wilma was very accommodating with us. Helped very quickly with all our inquiries and requests. I will definitely stay at En Route again.

It is clear that a lot of money has been spent on this place. Everything is perfect except the ablution facilities. There is one shower and the door to the shower could not be locked. If someone were to open the door, you would be staring straight into the shower. It's a pity.
I had a very nice stay. I arrived there in the rain and was warmly received with an umbrella in hand. The kitchen is nice and spacious with a television and very well furnished. Als is new and clean. I was out there again in the morning in the rain. What a great farm experience. I actually don't want to recommend the place, otherwise everyone will book it and I might not get a place again if I want to sleep there (just kidding).

En Route Gastehuis is on a farm about 6 km from the N1 near Trompsburg. The road is a stretch of dirt road, but is in very good condition. Excellent security and covered parking. Beautiful shady garden and very tasteful rooms. Good quality beds and bedding. My husband and I stayed in a small apartment unit with a kitchenette and bathroom. I would only recommend that they maybe put in roof fans or air conditioning - the fan that is there is too small to really make a difference. My in-laws stayed in a double room with en-suite bathroom with DSTV in their room. We bought braai suits from Wilma and it was delicious. The communal kitchen had everything we needed (including coffee machines!) and we had a great time grilling. Since we were driving very early, Wilma packed a breakfast for each of us with muffins, yogurt, fruit and juice. We will definitely stay there again.

We have various accommodation options. All the rooms share a communal kitchen and two of the rooms have their own kitchen. There is also a communal TV with full DStv. Each room is equipped with an electrical blanket, a heater and a fan. All linen and towels are provided. as well as coffee and tea.
The communal kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, microwave, coffee plunger, 2-plate stove, crockery and cutlery. A quad with braai facilities is also available.
Enjoy the peace and quiet of the farm and the garden where you can relax. The electric fence provides security. Please note that the guesthouse does not have a generator and that only basic power sources can and will be provided when there is loadshedding.
