The accommodation is solar powered which means that it is not affected by loadshedding.
The cottage comprises of a large lounge and dining room with a 3-quarter day bed and a single bed, a private bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom and toilet, and a kitchen. The outside porch is the ideal spot from where guests can enjoy a sundowner and watch the Blue cranes and open-beaked storks fly overhead, while the Cape robin, mouse birds and various sunbirds forage the indigenous flowers and insects in the garden. The garden is shared with your hosts, who will be there to escort you to your accommodation and help you get settled. Guests have access to secure parking and Wi-Fi.
The beautifully situated village of Suurbraak, sheltered by giant oaks, lies at the foot of the Langeberg mountains on the southern end of the Tradouw Pass. The mountains are rich in fynbos and bird life, and cattle paths act as mountain trails for hikers, mountain bikers and bird watchers. Guided village and mountain walking tours are offered, while horse riding and cart rides remind visitors that time has stood still in Suurbraak. There are basic braai facilities alongside the river with spectacular pools.

9 guests' feedbackA place to remember! The little cottage is so beautiful and full of careful touches - you are surrounded by the most breathtaking views and look out over a glorious garden, couldn't recommend this stay more! There are hikes and riding into the mountains and along the river - you can swim in the river and enjoy a smoothie at the local Paradise organic restaurant. The hosts, Mark and Heather, are wonderful and have lovely tips for your stay!
I could not find a suitable top sheet for the bed as it was far too warm for any other form of covering. When I needed help to light the gas stove, Heather was immediately available - thank you. The photos of the interior should be updated - the furniture is a bit different.
The most helpful host, sweet accommodation and beautiful accommodation. The dogs are friendly, and you can walk down to the river. There was a bit of noise next door but nothing too bad given it was a public holiday. The house is on the main road, so this place is best suited if you need to be in Suurbraak, or if you plan on driving out to the surrounding natural areas. Thank you for the lovely accommodation Mark!
Everything was great I will not mind to go again there.
We have frequented Suurbraak in years before we were married as we have family there. And this was our trip to show our kids the town and sights and nature and also to take our 9 year old spaniel for swims and walks. Heather's garden is beautiful and fully enclosed so our kids could explore while we relaxed having a braai. The town of Suurbraak is specifically out of the hustle and bustle of big towns. Don't expect to buy your luxury groceries within town, you'll need to get those in Swellendam. But the birds and the sounds and fresh air and mountain side, and the river! We remember it from years past, and it didn't disappoint. We will be back soon! Heather and her husband are lovely hosts with 3 friendly dogs of their own and they were so kind to our boys exploring their garden and meeting their chickens!
Served us well for a weekend away. Great view, friendly hosts and a garden of treasures with easy access to the river and mountain. Lovely reset.
Hospitality out of this world. Kind, friendly and very helpful. Made our stay much more special especially because we attended my uncle's funeral.
The host and wife kindly received us. The place was clean and we didn't need anything. An absolute delight in nature and the town.
Ernadoon's place offers the best of both worlds: It is located on a quiet road which means you are close to everything in this extremely safe town. But if you open the doors in the bedroom, you find yourself in a massive garden overlooking the Langeberge and the river. Then you will think you are somewhere remote, far away from the city and its people. Suurbraak is one of those rare South African villages where you can walk alone after sunset and be safe. So delicious! The unit offers everything you could need and Heather and her husband (as well as their two lovely sons-in-law) are extremely hospitable. Also feel free to stop by Paradise Organics, the small restaurant in town where the owners will tell you all the stories of this gem of a town.
