34 guests' feedbackWhat a fantastic stay! Peiter and his wife were incredible hosts - upon arriving, we had warm farm-baked bread in the kitchen with jam and butter. Nestled in the breathtaking Nuweveld mountain range, this charming guest house offers a serene retreat away from the fast pace of everyday life. From the moment we arrived, we enjoyed the best of the Karoo with sheep in the veld and surrounded by mountains. The farmhouse itself is beautifully maintained, providing comfortable and cosy self-catering accommodations. With three well-appointed bedrooms and a fully equipped kitchen, it felt like a home away from home. The stillness of the Karoo, combined with the stunning landscapes, made for a rejuvenating getaway. If you’re looking for a tranquil escape to recharge and reconnect with nature, I'd recommend Eselfontein Gasteplaas. It’s a hidden gem that perfectly captures the essence of the Karoo, offering not just a place to stay, but an experience to cherish.
We had a great time at Eselfontein, the wind was a bit strong and cold on Friday when we arrived, but AGA made up for it. Thanks for fueling AGA. The 30 km dirt road to guest farm is very beautiful and can be driven with a normal sedan car. Thanks again for als, the nice chat, and I'll see you again soon. This time I'll come with the motorcycle, then we can go for a ride.
We were spoiled with a pure white snowy weekend on Eselfontein. The owner and his wife made sure that the AGA stove was nice and warm all weekend, and we were properly spoiled. I would definitely recommend it!
We had a lovely stay in the characterful farmhouse with everything you need. The house is neat and everything is spotless and comfortable. Freshly baked buns were a delicious treat!
Was a real farm experience with warm, freshly baked bread.
The farmer and his wife were extremely friendly. My dog and I had such a nice stay. After a long day on the road and coming home to freshly baked farm bread. I will hide there again for sure. The place is super clean, everything you need and more. Thank you very much for the most beautiful evenings in the Karoo. Have fun, have a nice walk!
We had a very nice stay here. Pieter is so hospitable and the house has so much character. Quiet, peaceful and stargazing is amazing. Nice barbecue and bike ride.
Lovely house with all the necessities. Perfect place to switch off a bit.
Words are too few to describe this incredible diamond in the heart of the Nêrens Karoo. Not only is the hospitality of the owners exemplary, they feel like family you haven't seen in a long time. The guest farm receives the Michelin award for creating an extremely clean and functional oasis in my beloved world. I'm trying to come up with excuses to visit again.
This was the highlight of our visit in the Karoo. We only booked one night but would definitely go back for longer. Here we experienced Karoo hospitality like no other place. The view is breathtaking and the house is a beautiful old farmhouse that reminds me of my childhood on my grandfather's farm. Even delicious fresh sandwiches received on arrival. The price is no indication of what you can expect. It's really dirt cheap for what you get. Thank you very much for your hospitality and the nice chat and visit. You really have a gem in the Karoo.
Hospitality and friendliness as you only get in the heart of the Karoo!
Wonderful. Beautiful surroundings, perfect house, well equipped, beautiful view. Karoo hospitality at its best. Very friendly and helpful farmer who knows the area and showed us the most beautiful ridge road.
The owners are always friendly and the place is very beautiful and takes you back many years.
The owners are friendly and helpful. Farm is beautiful. Can go for long day hikes. Good bird watching.
Fresh, clean carol air. Great farm experience. Eselfontein is well located on the Karoo Highlands Route, only 32 km from the town of Fraserburg. If you want peace and quiet this is the place. Away from traffic/city noise and all-pervading technology.
Neatly and comfortably furnished, against a fantastic mountain backdrop. Completely safe and peaceful. The host was extremely helpful and returned my lost items to me. I am very grateful! It's on the Rantepad, the alternative route between Sutherland and Fraserburg - a wonderful mountain landscape. Something special. Will definitely visit again! The WiFi is strongest at the windmill, but it was such a "Karoo experience" that we quite enjoyed it!
We are so thankful that we decided to stay at this farm out of town for the weekend of a wedding in Fraserburgh. Unbelievably beautiful area and hospitality of the people here. Do yourself a favor and stay for a day or two more than planned and enjoy the Karoo at its best. I hope to see Pieter them and especially his father, Oom Piet again soon.
See stars.
Highly recommend driving the ridge road to Sutherland.
The hospitality of our host and wife, and the silence of the Karoo, keep us going back again and again for more.
Wonderful place to experience the tranquility and natural beauty of the Karoo.
Nicest Karoo house with everything you need, feel free to recommend it.
Just a note, from the town it is a 30 km dirt road to the farm. There is no cell phone signal from the town to the farm. Limited WiFi in the farmhouse itself.
Pet friendly and there is a swimming pool/pond for the summer and a beautiful old Aga in the winter which Pieter will be happy to light for you. The cottage is fully equipped.
Karoo house with very thick walls, nice view over a small valley and braai area in the forest. Heard interesting stories and information about the environment from Pieter. Here one makes friends easily.
Good value for money, clean and safe.
We enjoyed our stay at Eselfontein. There is a story here that needs to be told. Of a quiet strength and love for the ground. From the nature that makes you marvel in a farmyard and watch the stars as you wait for the new decade. What was also nice for me was the little treat that awaits you when you arrive there. Delicious filter coffee, fresh bread rolls, farm milk and homemade jam. The strangest thing is the chickens that sleep high in the tree and are your alarm clock to get up. However, it is best to talk to Pieter and share his world that he loves for a while.
We had such a friendly welcome, warm delicious bread, coffee, rusks, a filled up pool! We had a lovely Christmas there.
Wonderful accommodation in a very beautiful part of the Karoo. Very neat and well-equipped farmhouse with a large kitchen table for nice long visits. Wish we could stay longer.
The farm house is beautifully looked after, clean and tidy. Maresa's bread rolls the first night were a hit! It's a working farm, with sheep, lambs, swimming pool and nice chats. The sundowners at peak time were an experience. Thank you very much for a wonderful Karoo getaway weekend. See you again soon.
Very nice and clean and peaceful.
Warm reception. Top-notch accommodation. Lots of interesting things on he farm for city slickers. You have to come here to experience true rest for your soul.
We only spent the night, but Pieter made an effort so that we could see how the sheep were "showered" the next morning. Nice and warm sitting in front of the coal stove and playing games with a bottle of red wine. Highly recommend it.
Perfect place if you just need to forget about all your worries and get some new energy in nature. Pieter kept the AGA sove nice and hot. The rusks, warm bread and jam was such a nice treat. Unforgetable walking triail on the farm.
