Lovely location, people, and accommodation.
Excelsior is a wedding venue and the accommodation seems to be arranged accordingly - for one night's sleep. Our booked unit was not assigned to us and was empty for 2 of the 3 nights we were here. The layout of the unit that was made available to us is impractical with the entrance door opening into 50% of the kitchen space. The kitchenette is very well equipped but has no space to put anything down such as mugs when you boil the kettle. The most delicious coffee was provided which we thoroughly enjoyed. The shower lacks a door/curtain unless the design is intended for the bathroom floor to be washed with each shower. Fortunately, a mop was provided. A 5 liter water was provided with the words that the borehole water only tasted somewhat brackish. During our stay it was brown water that came out of the taps and the owners had to return to the farm several times to turn on the water pump as it did not automatically turn on after power cuts and it appeared that there was no other person on the farm who could not perform the task in their absence. If the water as we experienced it is normal, future visitors will probably have to provide sufficient clean water themselves. The owners were very helpful and friendly and responded as quickly as they could to requests, but unfortunately things pick up and after a while it snowballs. We enjoyed and appreciated the recommendations of 'things to do' and places to visit by the owner. There are absolutely no safety measures in the unit or from where you turn off the road to the units. Any person can enter there without having to overcome any barrier or safety mechanism. As a result, I don't even want to award one star for safety unless one star means the front door can lock. The accommodation where we stayed right before Excelsior charged a similar rate and offered light years better quality, comfort and safety.
Lovely setting on sheep farm. The rooms were charming and nicely decorated. Host was very hospitable.
