39 guests' feedbackBeautiful, clean and dead quiet as I had hoped. Could walk among the wildlife.
The most amazing setting, with the chalets positioned well in the reserve, close to the pool and dam, with wildebeest and monkeys frequently passing near to the chalets. The nature reserve is full of animals, especially wildebeest and a variety of buck, and it is amazing to do a self-drive, hike in the reserve or take a guided night tour. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and I would highly recommend it for a breakaway from JHB/Pretoria. I would, however, suggest you do the trip with a high clearance vehicle as the roads are quite rough, especially if it rains.
A very quiet place. Loved the trees and the animals.
Was very nice and peaceful.
I really enjoyed myself. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The place was clean and cosy. Definitely coming back again.
We had a great time. Especially walking among animals is so great!
A lovely stay, really enjoyed the rock pools.
Wonderful reserve with walks/hikes possible amongst animals.
Good destination if you like to walk but some of the trails can be demanding. Some roads currently not in good condition.
The hut is very nice. Located right in front of a store room and staff rooms was very invasive as the staff are up and down constantly, talking very loud and coming to pick up things and people with old noisy bakkie and tractor. If you want peace and quiet, this is not the place. You can't sit at your fire as people do not respect your privacy and talk loud and make so much noise that it is impossible to relax. I am very disappointed in the 2 bush cabins for the walkers. They are being renovated (new buildings), but the site looks terrible, one can still keep it clean, while building there. The builders has no respect for nature or animals around the site. Papers, tins, glass clothes and rubbish are scattered all over the place. Animals were seen chewing on plastic bags. It's very bad. Close the roads there then, because 4 cars drove in there while we were birding close by and they were all disgusted about the stand of things there. The cabin down at the river is not at all being looked after or maintained. Please communicate to the right people so that someone takes responsibility and look after these special places. We love Ezemvelo Nature Reserve, but our last 2 stays were really not a nice experience. The people working there must really get a speech from management if management still exists. Bad experience.
Generaly good, ablution blocks not that clean.
You guys have my number and email, call or email me, then we'll talk through this. Ezemvelo has a lot of potential, but you were left behind 30 years ago. There are challenges that I'm sure you know about. Yes, the photos look more or less like that, but it's about detail. Bathrooms e.g. The kiosk is very understocked. It's the basics that you can do that just give that extra touch. The area around the pool is very neglected and dry. Yes, I know it was winter, but I don't think you have a shortage of water. Certainly there could be a little more greenness. If you want, talk to me.
The monkeys were a big problem. They start early in the morning and are at the camp the whole day. I would advise that they try to scare off the monkeys on a daily basis. They are so cheeky and you cannot move without a monkey trying to take something. So no, they don't do enough to keep the monkeys away from the campsite. The dustbins were also a problem. Not enough dustbins and not secure for the monkeys.
It was disappointing. All two chairs in the room were broken. Sink in the bathroom crooked and loose. Shower walls were dirty. Table outside was broken. The 20 km dirt road is very bad. Looks like no maintenance is being done.
The nature is beautiful and there is a lot of wildlife to see with walking paths. The walking paths are well marked and worth walking. The campsite is neat and quiet. It's worth it if you love nature and just want to experience tranquility. (Psst. The large pool is out of order and it would definitely be more worth going if the pool was in working order.)
Delightful and pleasant.
Peaceful place to relax and enjoy your own peace.
I would have preferred that the chalets were built much further apart. We escape from the city and commotion to come to rest, then you hear the neighbors. The animals are healthy and fat, the barbecue area is good and the service was excellent and friendly, the man at the main gate is grumpy, but otherwise the visit was nice.

Was very calm. Couldn't do much because rain, not Exemvelo's fault but no one came to hear if we are satisfied or have any comments. Terrible dirt road to drive on. The resort's road is well laid out and we saw many beautiful goats. Fishing facilities are bad.
I would not recommend anyone to stay here at all. I unfortunately made the mistake of looking at the Chalets which were R900 and thought a cabin for R800 would be more or less the same. We struggled to find the place and got stuck in mud. At least Adriaan was very nice and came to help us. We are very grateful for that. The hut was 8 km away from everything so we couldn't swim either. The pool was at reception. The cabin was very dirty and did not have forks, although I asked in advance. There was no lighting. The ad says there are solar lights, there aren't. There is also no drinking water. The water is full of bugs that come out of the tap. The geyser was also faulty. There were only 2 statements. Very hot or freezing cold. The fridge didn't work either. And I had to use the freezer section to keep cold. The fridge door was also broken. If I had known it was so bad I would have brought my tent and camped for R300 instead. The experience is the same, except you expect it. When you rent a cabin you don't expect to pack that much. If I had known that I could have at least brought my own tools. The nature is very beautiful and peaceful. But the hut is "daylight robbery". I feel very disappointed. I would rather pay for a chalet or campsite.
You can really just rest, watch wildlife, the house was neat and clean.

The Highveld Park offers an exceptional biome of which little is protected. The walking trails are well-marked and well-kept. I had good walks with my teenagers.
We have previously stayed in many other places that we found online on the website that cost less and were more value for money. We were informed we could check in until 10pm, we got to the gate and the guard looked a bit confused but got our keys, when we got to reception to hear where the chalets were (because the normal chalets weren't designated not on plates) then it was already closed, apparently already 17:00. We drove around and then came across the caretaker who was happily able to show us where to go. The chalet was neat, but as I said the amount paid and value for money does not line up, I think it is worth more R450 per night.
This is a hidden gem perfectly located just outside Pretoria and Johannesburg. You can see the reserve is taken care of and the scenery and everything was just perfect. The mountain cabins is exactly what we wanted and we loved living off the grid for a day.
I loved it and would go again.
Scenic, peaceful. Plenty of animals and nice mountain bike trails.
Tranquillity is important to us. The no music policy is a good thing. I hope it will be sustained.
Always very nice at Ezemvelo. Camp and Chalet accommodation are both very neat and the shop is well equipped.
The game drive was an experience and will definitely do it again.
It's a nice, peaceful place, very nice for a weekend getaway.
Excellent, friendly service and beautiful.
We had a great time. The animals are plentiful and the game drive was very enjoyable.
Ezemvelo is really beautiful, with very neat, basic and simple accommodation. Our chalet was cosy and had everything we needed. I was sad that we arrived late and had to leave a bit early the next morning cause hubby had to work on a Sunday. We have both agreed that next time we will stay longer and enjoy all the amazing things Ezemvelo has to offer, and we would mostly recommend it to our friends and family.
Comfortable without any unnecessary luxuries that will drive up costs. Very beautiful nature with lots of wildlife to see. Pool clean and tidy. Pond with fishing facilities was a bonus. (Reeds may be removed to create larger fishing area). Game that came to graze right up to residential units at night was something special.
Been very calm. Apart from the rain, we enjoyed it and were kindly received.
Pool well maintained, chalet needs renovation. Clean, but old fashioned.
The accommodation was clean and tidy. The variety of game is great. The pool is an asset. The general manager and manager as well as the lady at reception were very helpful and friendly. We had a nice stay.
