The location is stunning, the room is more than big enough with everything and more for two people and then the loads of activities on your doorstep. It's amazing. Just made inquiries for a group booking for 6 couples for the weekend of my birthday. We're going to have a good time there for sure.

The rooms very nice, but a fan or air conditioning is a priority for me. Because there are no fans in the bathroom, all the hot air enters the room and it is very very hot and stuffy. Because I mostly travel alone, I don't sleep with doors open. The restaurant was a disappointment. 2 items on a small menu not available. 07:15 next morning the restaurant's doors were still closed. The food was cold and the noise from the kitchen deafening. Come on, Fairy Knowe Hotel, such a beautiful place. I think you can do better than that!
Hotel failed to tell us that the river was polluted and we couldn't swim. Hotel sink didn't work and for 4 people in a room, they did not fill the large water dispenser they provided us with daily.
We had a nice meal and walked around. Everything is made new. Bedrooms very nice and tidy.

We were very kindly received and could choose our own rondavel when we got there and see what it looks like. The food was absolutely fantastic! We spent hours by the river and caught some great fish. Although there were other guests staying in the rondavel next to us, we had privacy and enjoyed the silence.

The customer service was very good and in Afrikaans! The room is clean and tidy and has everything you need, and you sleep very well! The restaurant offers the most delicious breakfast and other meals. We also did the Christmas dinner there and it was out of the book delicious! The people who work for the Fairy Knowe Hotel are friendly and always helpful. I will go there again for sure.

Fairy Knowe Hotel is located in a beautiful part of our country not far from businesses, yet peaceful. With a river and hiking trails there is no reason to be boring and in the evening if you don't want to be quiet a trip to Wilderness for entertainment and restaurants is a good idea.

Everything in the hotel is very old and it needs a lot of TLC in order for it to be worth paying +- R1000 a night.
It's a very outdated place. The shower over the bath without a mat to provide slip resistance is a death trap.
The number of wonderful activities and relaxation available at Fairy Knowe was perfect. We enjoyed relaxing by the river, canoeing and reading books in the hotel lounge. Another great activity was the morning walk to the bird hide nearby. And there are so many great restaurants in the Wilderness village just up the road.

Would go again, only two things scratched: We think a cold bottle of water in the fridge on arrival would have been very welcome. We were not informed in advance that there would be no dinners, nor that the bar would be closed. Would like to see one or two sports channels on TV. Other than that it was a very nice experience.
Fantastic location. We stayed in a rondavel. Simple accommodation with only the necessary in the rondavel, but neat and clean. The staff was extremely friendly and kind. The farm has been in the same family since the 1800s, which makes it special.

The staff is friendly, but very unprofessional. It is a shame for a bunch of young men who terrorized other guests and the management was not up to dealing with it. One goes with the expectation to experience the peace and quiet of the Wilderness, and not to sleep in fear.

We spent a very pleasant time at the hotel. There was a large variety of breakfast and it was pleasant, staff also very helpful. The location makes you forget all your stress. I would recommend it again to friend. Negative: Room carpet could easily be replaced, as well as the bathtub was dirty.

Very historic hotel with wonderful people.
The hotel is in a terrific location. The breakfast was really nice and the mornings were peaceful. The swimming pool and grounds are looked after. During the booking, one of the cheaper places in the area was. The rooms are a bit dilapidated (still clean), but I feel the price was expected and I was still happy with the room.

It is a very beautiful place.
My first visit was special, but with my second visit the service in the dining room was bad. The table tennis rackets were broken and the pool table felt was very thin and almost unplayable. The service was friendly and helpful, but the structure fell apart a bit. This is a great pity as it is a great location but unfortunately I will not visit the hotel again.
The location and view are beautiful. The hotel was a disappointment. It is definitely not well maintained. Musty smell in rooms, carpets are worn, paint on walls is off, cobwebs in the windows, bath enamel is off, cabinet handle is off. Breakfast was like hostel food - dry and tasteless. We checked out one day early. Will only go there again when the hotel is renovated. It has incredible potential over the location. It's such a shame that the place is not maintained.
Really enjoyed our time there. The breakfast and buffet meals were heavenly. Would recommend anyone to stay there. Something the management could look into is making WiFi more convenient by getting it in rooms.
I didn't feel it was a 3 star hotel. It just looks dilapidated in places. A 3-ter hotel also does not give Ricoffy and Cremora in the rooms. There was a lot of dust under the bed and things from previous guests that had fallen behind the dresser. So it certainly wasn't moved away every time guests were there. We also didn't have hot water to bath/shower every day.
The staff were very helpful with advice and information about the area and made us feel at home from the start. The breakfast is delicious with fast service. Despite the age of the building, it is well maintained and you have at your disposal everything you would expect at a reasonable rate. The children really enjoyed the river and pool.

The Fairy Knowe Hotel is situated on the beautiful Serpentine River in Wilderness. You can't find a better location. It is also super peaceful and beautiful there in nature. Unfortunately, the facilities (rooms, bathrooms and dining hall) are from a bygone era, but not an attractive bygone era. I would guess there was a renovation in the 70's and nothing was ever done again. So one can understand the reasonable cost. However, I would have been willing to pay more for a little more luxury. The staff, from the management to the kitchen and garden staff, were very friendly and helpful.
Lots of space in the rondavel. Should please better canoes provided. And the shower curtain needs to be replaced.
Great spot on the river, grounds are well looked after and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The rooms were terrible - grimy, needed painting, bath was shocking, no phone, no fridge, 3 blurry DStv channels not 8 as advertised. The sports equipment was shocking. 10 table tennis bats all broken, a net held together with sellotape and a part of a cardboard box. Tennis equipment was outdated and balls terrible. No restaurant as advertised? No menus for the minimum amount of food they did prepare (burgers, chips and toasties). Our quote said a buffet breakfast which we were looking forward to - didn't happen, no menu. Water in the rooms was warm - just. I know they advertise as the hotel being an "Old dame" but this old dame should have been retired a long time ago.

A very pleasant stay with the tranquility of the surroundings and the nice rowing on the river was worth it. Didn't get the room that was booked. The hotel can become a preferred destination if it can be upgraded. The food is good, but not always constant. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Good location, but some areas are tired and should be refreshed. Administration is not good and we struggled for weeks to get refund of room's cancellation. We will visit again but the place has unfulfilled potential and needs some loving attention.
The staff were very helpful and made us feel at home during our visit for the SA Cross Country in George. My husband really enjoyed the barbecue that evening at the rondavel! We and our children enjoyed the short time in Wildernis, fortunately the weather cooperated and we were also able to get out of the stand.
The photo of the room on the website I booked is not the room I got. I have for a double unit facing the garden and one next to the river with 2 single beds. The directions and GPF map kept pointing us to the wrong place. I contacted the reception to help me but the lady working there could not explain to me how to get there and suggested that the driver speak to me and would call me back immediately as we had already arrived in the Wilderness and repeatedly at the wrong destination arrived 10 minutes later, no call but luckily received correct directions from a Wilderness resident. Room clean and tidy. Nice view and location over river and safe environment. Breakfast was satisfactory although a waiter eating the last bacon crumble from a serving tray before it is refilled minutes later does not paint a good picture. May be listed as B&B instead. It's a nice place with a lot of potential but with better management.

At that particular time there were 60+ young rugby players from different clubs at the hotel for a course in the area. They were very friendly but complicated breakfast. The staff were thus very busy and I was the only other guest there for breakfast. The second morning I had yogurt, but no fruit. The room had a beautiful view, but I had to carry my luggage up and down a difficult staircase. The staff at reception were friendly and provided me with information on the area. I have stayed in better places for the same amount of money in the area. Wilderness is so beautiful that the view made up for the accommodation.

The double rooms are equipped with either a double-, king or twin beds and include an en-suite bathroom. The rondavels and cottages are free-standing and are equipped with a double bed and or a double bunk and single beds. Amenities included in all of the room categories are TV's and tea-and coffee-making facilities.
A buffet breakfast is served in the mornings. The hotel also offers a well-stocked bar, outdoor swimming pool and canoes available free of charge for our guests - first come, first serve.
