The removal company came horribly late, and the host kindly moved the booking to the following night. It's a beautiful place, and our doggie Ginger loved all the open space to run around.
I stayed one night and I was more than happy with everything.

The place is peaceful and very welcoming.
The surroundings are breathtaking and our rooms were clean and equipped with all the necessities. In the absence of closeby restaurants, it would have been lovely if the facility offered dinner or breakfast on request, at additional cost, obviously. We would gladly have made use of it instead of having to bring our own food in.

We camped. The fog during the night makes everything wet. Staying in the rooms is a much better option. Comfortable clean with own shower and toilet facilities. Fridge, microwave, TV, kettle, mugs, glasses and coffee etc. make the stay pleasant.

Host was unaware of my booking on arrival. I was told that both the unit I had booked, as well as the one similar to that were fully booked. After some negotiating, I was given the unit. The unit was not clean, floor was dirty, curtains were dirty. A real pity, as the location is lovely, and with a little love and care, it could be a great option. Unfortunately I did not have a good experience, and won't be returning.

The hostess made us feel very much at home.
What a fantastic place to stay. Our room was comfortable with en-suite shower and toilet, hot water and towels provided. Rooms were serviced and kept clean. Great atmosphere and large open lawns for activities. Horses, dogs, a tame lamb and a cat all added to the homely feel of Fels Retreat. Sarina always on hand to attend to requests - she even had a pair of water pump pliers handy when I needed one! Highly recommended, and I will definitely be returning there again, probably in December.
Would definitely recommend to someone who wants to come to rest and relax. It's a nice place, neatly furnished with a home-like atmosphere and the service is unbeatable.
It's a beautiful environment. Different types of accommodation that are nice. Sarina was an excellent hostess.
It's my second time that I stayed overnight and I will definitely do so it again. Maybe a recommendation that there be two prices for breakfast, a small and a large breakfast one can choose from. I always feel welcome and it's a lovely place to stay overnight from Richards Bay to Gauteng.
I had a team of 5 that worked in the area and found Fels Retreat perfectly located. They were very accommodating in the change of our program. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area either for work or just an easy get away.
Is it just me who is full of fiemes? The price was actually not expensive - now we know why. The mountain behind the house is a nice background. The location is actually quite interesting, but the driveway from the street has not been scraped for a long time. The gate has a button, but it's not a doorbell; This is a scanner for the gate. Had to honk 3 times to get attention. The shed we stopped by was full of scrap material, grills and so on. At least there were friendly dogs and a pony or 2 who came to say hello. The rooms were clean, but the furniture old. The headboard of the bed was an old steel window frame. Cute idea, except that there were still pieces of glass in it - eina! The bathroom has a shower and another part of the bathroom has an old toilet and a small sink - quite shabby. One can break out the middle wall and build a much better bathroom. Maybe we're just the type of customers who don't belong here. It gave the impression that it was more of a wedding event. We missed sociability. There was e.g. not a porch in front of the cottage - just a trodden step and grass and a wire table from 1921 (circa). The "dining room" where we made and ate our own breakfast in the morning was a split pole type lapa with a single kitchen where I would not like to cook anything. A little creepy. So, in summary, sorry, but I wouldn't recommend the place unless a real effort is made to tidy up the space. Maybe it's just not our type of place - or are we just full of fams?

Guest toilet flush mechanism needs maintenance. Room B9 - the cold water tap needs to be tightened. The toilet cistern is inclined to leak into the bowl.
It was really a peaceful atmosphere where you get lost among the mountains and the nostalgia of farm life. Could do with something more for the kids, a better play park, maybe a pool, or even a trampoline. It's definitely our place to sleep next time.
The environment was very beautiful. The resort is very beautiful and nicely located. The unit we stayed in was not well maintained and was dirty.
