94 guests' feedbackThe stay on this farm far exceeded our expectations! The hostess is friendly and helpful. We felt at home. The beautiful garden and beautiful surroundings were a bonus. Wish we could stay there for a few days!
Wonderful relaxing cottage with everything you need.
Joanne, the hostess, was so welcoming and everything was beautifully appointed. Lovely garden, tranquility that you can only enjoy in the Karoo!
We experienced exceptional hospitality and kindness with a very comfortable room, which was clean and warm on a very cold day. All the comforts that we needed for an overnight stay were available to us. Thank you.
It's the 3rd time staying at Finchly Farm Cottages, and it's awesome as always.
Stay was nice, thank you.
Very helpful and makes an effort to meet guests' needs.
Pleasant and suited our needs.
Lovely farm atmosphere with the most beautiful sunset. Gardens are very beautiful and peaceful. Had a lovely stay and was very surprised and grateful to find an electric blanket on the bed. Accommodation unit was neat.
Peaceful, comfortable farm stay that takes you back in time with historic decor items. Great quiet away from city lights to look at the night stars and beautiful sunset and rise.
Had a great stay. Very hospitable, friendly and helpful. Peaceful farm atmosphere. Enjoyed the stay very much, would like to stay there again.
The welcome was warm, but the cottage was a bit shabby and dusty. Lovely breakfasts. I think the location would be great in good weather. Sadly for my purposes (I was on a landscape painting trip) the weather was very cold, wet and windy. The farmers, however, were delighted.
Unit met the basic needs with all the amenities. Slept over one night. TV was on but could not change channels. Wasn't sure if there was WiFi. Host didn't mention anything.
We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed a delicious dinner. Beautiful place to stay, clean and tidy and friendly owners.
Comfortable and lovely surroundings.
Finchley is a beautiful oasis. We cycled through the Baviaanskloof and were immediately able to cool off in their swimming pool. The rooms were well appointed, nice and cool. Feel free to make use of the delicious dinner and breakfast. We took breakfast packs which we ate on the road. This was a highlight of our drive on the way to McGregor.
Very 'lekke' stay, friendly service, lovely oasis on a working farm. Had a fantastic dinner.
Everything was in working order. Crisp bedding.
Capture everything the Karoo has to offer.
Very friendly hosts in a beautiful quaint town.
Despite the winter cold, we were warmly welcomed, accommodation is comfortable and well-equipped, we will be back again.
Accommodation was clean and tidy. Lapa with braai facilities was excellent.
Was a very nice overnight stay. Very safe and quiet!
Farm atmosphere and quiet.
Nicely restored house that is well equipped in a quiet area just outside the village. Grill available and good security. Free WiFi was a bonus!
Finchley Farm Cottages is very ideally located just outside the village of Willowmore. It is easy to get there and the tranquility is wonderful. Beautiful gardens and very friendly people. There are many walking paths and hills to take in a 360-view. Truly a recommendation for someone looking for tranquility!
Hostess was friendly and helpful. Enjoy a delicious dinner. Beautiful garden to relax in.
We slept well at Finchley Farm. The people are very friendly, helpful and love children. Our children had fun cycling on the farm and playing on the climbing frame. The highlight of the evening was for sure the delicious, home-cooked food that was served in our little house on a freezing cold evening. And of course the fireplace and warm blankets on the beds!
We had a great time staying here! The electric blanket on the bed chased away the cold! Joanna's food for dinner was steaming hot and very tasty!
Everything in cottage you need. Just bring extra spray or mosquito nets. Lots of mosquitoes.
Dirt road is good. No Wi-Fi. Garden is unkempt although there is a gardener. Toilet takes a long time to fill.
In the afternoon we went for a nice walk on a two-track path between the thorn trees. Very nice, peaceful place to stay. Joanne's canned beetroot is also to be recommended. Wish I bought more!
Definitely the place to rest in heavenly silence. The hostess was extremely friendly and considerate. Her meals are delicious. If you want to rest in a farm environment with all the comforts at your disposal, make this your choice.
The service was amazing. The people were friendly and helpful. We had a great time. Thank you.
We were received very kindly. Place is neat and clean and very comfortable. Surroundings are beautiful and peaceful, your typical farm feeling. Will stay there again.
We were well received and received good advice about good restaurants for dinner. Very interesting decor in the rooms and everything needed was available. A complaint about no water in the room was addressed immediately.
Great overnight stop between Gauteng and Knysna.
Quiet farm overnight stop. Great hosts. Peaceful and laid back. Will always use them when in the area.
A lack of plug points for all the appliances available.
Peaceful overnight stay on a Karoo farm in this well-equipped cottage. The decor adds to the charm and atmosphere.
We just stayed overnight at Joanne's place. She is very friendly. She tries to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
The room was comfortable, but needs some maintenance.
Not suitable for three people - space is too small.
A must-stay gem.
The garden is very beautiful with a large variety of plants. Beautiful flowers photographed.
Great value for money. Very comfortable stay. Highly recommended.
Very well equipped cottages.
Hostess was friendly and helpful.
Always pleasant to sleep over at Finchley Farm. Quiet farm atmosphere. Rooms and facilities neat and clean. Ideal for business or family visits and overnight stays.
The apartment has a bedroom, lounge and kitchen, bathroom with shower and corner bath. Very comfortable and clean and well-equipped. There is a small outside area to sit with a private corner of the garden. Unfortunately, it is not a free-standing unit, in the bedroom, you can hear your neighbours in their kitchen. We had quiet neighbours, so not a problem.
Very friendly reception and very helpful.
Peaceful farm atmosphere. Neat accommodation and only stayed one night. Staff friendly and helpful.
See stars.
Good choice for an overnight stay in the tranquility of a Karoo farm site not far from the town or highway. Comfortable accommodation, helpful hostess.
Basic amenities, nice pool. Conveniently outside of town.
Carpets in room were a lump in my throat. Bathroom old and shower was not so fresh. Grill grids were very dirty.
Upon our arrival the room key was wanted. TV remote was not available. Hostess had to fetch one in another room which was of no use anyway as the TV was snowing so much we couldn't see anything. Ice container with ice in it was dirty and moldy. Shower floor and walls were dirty. Bathroom light was not covered. It looked like maintenance had been done and things had just been left in the bathroom. Also when we booked through the website we asked for bed and breakfast. Breakfast was not included which was quite disappointing.
Not far off trail. Farm feel, neat and friendly! Will definitely visit again!
We were kindly received. The unit is beautifully furnished with antique furniture and decor. Nice quiet and peaceful. Just remember that the use of the aircon is R80 per day extra. But if it's very hot it's worth it. Would definitely recommend.
Hosts were fantastic and welcoming.
The owner was most helpful. We lost our cheaper cottage, but she was able to put us up in another slightly more expensive cottage and sort it all out. We'd love to have stayed longer, and we both hope to come back. Charming place in beautiful countryside.
Away from the city and beautiful antique style Very hospitable people
We stayed in the economy self-catering accommodation. The beds were most comfortable and we slept very well.
The hostess is very nice and helpful and the farm easy to find. The staff are lovely, thank you Ria! Everything was clean and tidy!
Very nice, well furnished, nice garden, friendly people.
It was so nice and peaceful to sleep on the farm. Joanne and Michael made us feel welcome, and had a delicious breakfast on the farm porch. Children really enjoyed feeding the donkeys. Will stay there again.
We had a lovely stay here. Nicely close to the main road from Willowmore. Well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The Karoo house is beautifully authentic and charming. It was nice to have a barbecue on the stoep, and the children could cool off in the pool.
We had a nice stay and were able to do one of the hiking trails. It was a relief after sitting in the car all day. We were able to get wood cheaply from the host and they were kind enough to provide more fine wood as well. We will spend the night there again if we go that way again.
Ideal stopover on our way to the Cape - neat, clean and comfortable.
We stopped over in Willowmore for one night on our way to Addo and stayed in the 2 bedroom cottage. It was neat and tidy and had everything we needed. The decor is old farm cottage style with creaky wooden floors and some antique furniture pieces as well as a few quirky decor items which I rather liked, but might not be to everybody's taste. The bathroom is large with a decent size shower and large bath. I would have liked a shelf/cabinet for my toiletries. The bedrooms are large, though the twin only had one dresser. We stayed one night and never unpacked, so it was not an issue. The living room was a lot smaller than the photos suggest, but more than adequate for us. The chairs are a bit rickety, but comfortable. I would have liked some scatter cushions as I am on the short side and the seating is rather deep. There is a TV with DStv. It is in a beautiful, old cabinet and a bit low. The one cabinet door keeps getting in the way when you need to go down the passage. The kitchen is galley style, but bigger than it looks on the photos. There is an inside braai on the far side of the kitchen which might be a bit tricky to use comfortably as it would only accommodate the braaier. There is a lovely, sunny stoep with a patio table and chairs. It gets the sun through the day and might be too hot in summer, but was wonderful for winter. There is an umbrella stand to offer some shade. There is small lawn in front of the cottage and another small garden behind (where the 1 bed cottage is located) with a swimming pool. I saw a drum-braai for outside use. There is also a play area for kids in front of the main house. The cottage was a lot warmer than we thought considering how cold the nights can be. There are however electric blankets, panel heaters and more than enough bed coverings to keep you cosy. For the summer days all the rooms have fans and there is an air conditioner for an extra charge. The cottage is on a dirt road, but we arrived in a sedan with no problems. The road was better than some of the tarred roads in the Eastern Cape. You need to turn off the main road into Willowmore and drive under it to get to the dirt road. It was rather dark and hard to see the entrance when we returned after supper in town. The owners were friendly and helpful with great suggestions of where to eat and what to do in the area. I would recommend this as a stop on your way through the area.
I had a stopover on my trip back to Cape Town and Finchley Farm Cottages was perfect for that purpose.
Stayed in economy room which had everything we needed. Owner supplied microwave oven when we requested it.
Had a bit of a hiccup with our booking which was sorted out with no trouble at all. In fact they went the extra mile to accommodate us. Well done! We will definitely be back.
Cute place with good location. Feel very safe too. We were kindly received and our cold water was quickly sorted out. My son and I had a lot of fun playing in the play area. The photos on the website look a little outdated and may create a bit of a false impression.
Joanne made us feel at home. We got there at load shedding time, but she made sure we got everything.
Finchley Farm Cottages is a lovely overnight accommodation where you can relax after a long day's travel. The sleeping and washing facilities are clean and tidy. It is very quiet and so we could enjoy a good night's rest.
It had been delicious. Everything one needs is there. Clean and tidy. Would recommend to someone who likes silence and just being peaceful.
Here you can find rest for your soul again and realise what life is about. Highly recommended to people who live in cities, staying in their own jails. Come and experience freedom, fresh air, peace, rest and a lot of quietness!
Hospitality, small details are not missed, very nice visit, will definitely go back.
Nice place to sleep on a working Karoo farm. Authentic accommodation with everything you need. Close to town if you suddenly need something.
Hospitality, shower's cold tap didn't work. Water is scarce so we had to bathe. Bathed whole family in one bath. Was a bit inconvenient but it's only one night. Place very well furnished. Lots of spiders but that's also OK.
Warmly welcomed, quite neat, everything you need for self-catering.
Air-con apparently extra, and not friendly at all, I actually felt I intruded.
The farm is not far out of town. The apartment was perfect and had what we needed.
My dogs loved the farm and open space. We enjoyed our stay.
Enjoyed it a lot. Clean and tidy and has everything you could possibly need.
The location was ideal for our trip from Port Elizabeth. Old-fashioned but very neat.
Highly recommended. Relaxing farm atmosphere, but still not too far from town. Will definitely be back, thank you.
We had a nice stay and it's nice to spend time on a peaceful and relaxing farm.
Despite the fact that we chose the three hottest days 39°, 44°, 37° (the days before and after were 25° and 23°), it was an excellent experience. The exceptionally hot weather limited our activities but even so I saw 35 bird species. The evenings were lovely and balmy and the aroma of thornwood was special. The bigger living unit suited us well as it had lots of room (especially because it was so hot outside). New Years Eve the host and his family invited us to join them on their annual night ride to see the fireworks on the koppie with Willowmore's lights in the distance. It is a sheep and hunting farm and there is a lot of game. The hostess and her husband are real English farmers with the typical warmth of the Karoo farmers. We would like to return but apparently April is the best time weather-wise and also bird-wise.
Well sign posted. Close to main street. Very peaceful and relaxing. Slightly overpriced in comparison to the rest of our destinations during this trip of ours.
