Fisherhaven Travellers Lodge is near the Bot River estuary in Fisherhaven and centrally situated to explore many of the Overberg attractions. This small tranquil area is on the whale coast route, a suburb of the famous whale-watching town, Hermanus. Fisherhaven is privileged to be the home of a herd of wild Rooisand horses. The only wild wetland horses in South Africa. We are 92 kilometres from Cape Town Airport and 11 kilometres west of the centre of Hermanus.

Vanessa and Derek make you feel very welcome and give you lots of very interesting local information, i.e. whale watching, restaurants, pubs etc. Also lovely location and loved hearing the frogs at night! Would definitely recommend it. Great value!
We only spent the night, but for us it was quite okay. We would suggest in our room, N1, that the single bed could be removed. It can then be ideal for a small table with two chairs. Another suggestion is a small microwave for quick hot meals, such as pies etc. The coffee and milk powders with the cups can then be placed on a small shelf above the table. Then too, a door stopper will be good against a pesky wind that constantly closes the door. Otherwise, it is a quiet, tidy place. By the way, why the pool room is only available on request, I don't know. Keep it open if it is for guests' use. I didn't see any braai facilities either, and we South Africans are braai people, even if it's just a sausage with braai bread.
The hosts are super friendly and helpful. Everything worked in the room. No complaints.
If you are looking for tranquility this is your destination.
It must be emphasized that Fisherhaven is 13 km outside Hermanus. We were under the impression that it is in Hermanus itself. We were certainly surprised when we still had to drive 13 km outside Hermanus. The place is very beautiful. Neat and friendly accommodation.

Vanessa and Derek are excellent host and host. Fully equipped kitchen for self-catering guests, and indoor swimming pool (which unfortunately we didn't have time for). Spacious rooms with lovely balcony for early morning coffee.
Vanessa was a fantastic hostess. Grateful for the effort they put in. From recommended restaurants to event times etc. forwarding to us. They have access to the lagoon area if you book there. Basically a private beach. WiFi, swimming pool and secure parking. Very satisfied.
You can relax and explore the area from here. It is close to Hermanus with many restaurants and attractions. On a wine trail and the wild horses was a pleasant surprise. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
Very kindly received by Vanessa and Derek. They even saw us off at five o'clock upon our departure. We also received information/link in advance about events in Hermanus. Vanessa also regularly provided information such as where to have breakfast, places to visit and also encouraged to use the access to the beach to watch the sunset and even put extra blankets down for the cold. Unfortunately, the purpose of our visit, namely to come and say hello to friends and spend as much time with them as possible, did not allow us time to drive around and see and explore Hermanus. As a result, we also did not use facilities such as the pool room, kitchen and braai area at all. My only point of criticism, although we were well aware of it, is perhaps only the stairs leading to the bedroom. One has to walk rather very carefully and especially with handfuls of luggage, especially with the descent you can unexpectedly buy a piece of Fisherhaven Traveller's Lodge. Also received organized and prompt feedback on all my queries. Thank you very much Vanessa. A few mosquitoes also made their appearance. Thank goodness for the mosquito net. DStv is also a big plus. Will use Fisherhaven Traveler's Lodge again on the next occasion if we visit Hermanus.

Vanessa is absolutely a perfectionist (like me, I see her in me). She and her husband gave us the warmest welcome. Her place is well cared for and very neat. She takes pride in her work and in her home/ accommodation. She works very hard! She loves her work, she does it with so much passion. Our stay was absolutely wonderful. Vanessa is very well informed to guide and advise about travelling, she gives good directions and is familiar with most holiday accommodation. We will definitely visit again and will refer. The following is not meant as negative criticism! Negative criticism can build and can help to improve etc. etc.! Not that Vanessa and her husband have to improve, they are doing perfect. Maybe they can try to accommodate clients who prefer a shower over a bath to maybe make one shower available to those who prefer showering. Maybe they can accommodate for soft music at the pool area when one wants to chill with a drink and very soft music in the background while relaxing at the swimming pool. This music doesn't have to be loud and noisy and it doesn't have to be on all the time. TV, programming and channels: different people have different tastes in different programs/movies etc. like one watches an interesting movie/ program then the TV channel changes whilst one is in the midst of a interesting subject. This actually annoys or frustrates one. Time factor: We felt a bit restricted as everything has to come to a standstill at 10 pm. We are middle aged, we are not rowdy/loud and we know how to act, as we have homes too and we will not be out of line in someone else's property. These comments are NOT to discredit or to be critical or to pass judgement - on the contrary! It's merely suggestions we are asking to be considered. It also appears if the place is more tourist and regular clients friendly. We reiterate that the above comments are not intended to break down or to complain, it's suggestions intended to build or change or improve. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the place or how the owners run their place, they reserve the right! So please accept our sincere thanks for your hospitality and your genuinely kind nature. Fisherhaven's Lodge is not far from Hermanus. Very clean and neat with safe parking.
The hostess and family were very friendly and made us part of the family. Accommodation available was very neat.
It was very nice, peaceful, away from everything and everyone. The place is very neat, everything you need is there. We only took our clothes with us, everything else was available, bedding, towels, fridge, pots, pans, even a hair dryer, etc. There were other guests too, but the place is so nicely decorated, we didn't even see or hear them at all.
The place was just fine, offering reasonable value. The facilities are neat but unfortunately outdated, so don’t expect to relax or sleep well with the building’s noises in the wind. The one host is extremely rude and made us feel totally unwelcome, and the unfriendly manner really ruined what should have been a relaxing stay. I most certainly do not recommend this establishment.

Finding the place was easy and the friendly host made us feel at home. Spotless room, couldn't find anything wrong with any aspect of the accommodation. Also affordable and there are wine estates in the area. We didn't get to them thats why you will see us agai.

The owners really went out of their way to spoil me and make my stay very pleasant. Wonderful environment with wild horses walking around the houses and shyly stopping long enough for you to take wonderful photos. (The Nortje's helped me with checking off a lot of my wish list.)

Our stay at Fisherhaven Traveler's Lodge was nice and peaceful. We only have one request and that is that they should think about fitting a kitchen area into the room. Not everyone likes to share a kitchen with others. And our sleeping place was upstairs. So walking up and down to the kitchen can be quite exhausting.
A very pleasant wellcome from the owners and made us feel at home immediately. It is very well situated between Hermanus and Betty's Bay. Really enjoyed the trip to the penquin breading site and the history of the the old whaling station. It really makes one wonder why we are slowly destroying our world.

Very neat, clean place to stay. I would recommend it for 1 or 2 nights to stay overnight after a long drive. Owners were also very friendly and made us feel at home.
We were warmly welcomed and since there was space available they offered an upgrade. The facilities are very comfortable, beautiful, neat and clean. We felt very safe during our time there.
The rooms were upstairs and no glasses or fresh water was offered. There are no showers, just a bathtub which was uncomfortable. I would give them a 5 out of 10.

I felt victimised because I had my kids there. As if a problem. We were told the TV is too loud, child laughing and having fun is too loud, talking was too loud. The family and kids were very excited to be at a holiday destination, but this was a let-down.

To coincide with the peaceful ambience of the area we regret that we do not allow visitors (non-paying guests) or accommodate large group bookings, or any form of parties and operate according to the municipal by-laws of the Overstrand municipality.
There are many places to visit and things to do in and around the Overberg: whale watching, shark cage diving, wine tasting, bird watching, horse riding, trail running, mountain cycling, fat bike riding, wind kite surfing, kayaking, adventure tours and hiking. There are interesting rock pools and good swimming spots nearby with endless sandy beaches: Grotto Beach, Voëlklip, Onrus, Sandbaai, and Kleinmond Beach. A visit to the nearby Botanical Gardens and Penguin colony at Stony Point in Bettys Bay.
