Very nice stay! The garden and porch are beautiful. The kitchen has everything one needs. The hot tub is great. House is very clean and tidy. The town is friendly. Nice walking distance to Bokkomlaan. Really enjoyed the weekend there.
Very nice. Many activities for the children.
It was amazing. First time we hired a house with a jacuzzi and that was a cherry on the top.
Great, thank you Fisherman's Rest.
Beautiful place that met all our requirements. We had a great time and the jacuzzi was a hit!
Wonderfully peaceful. Place has everything one could need. The hot tub and trampoline were a winner.
Lovely weekend! Such a beautiful place. The garden was stunning. We loved the jacuzzi and the hammock. Will definitely visit again!
We had a lovely stay.
Fisherman's Rest is a wonderful little cottage in Velddrif, just near the river. It is mostly quiet and peaceful with a garden the birds love. It is within walking distance of the riverfront and Bokkomstraat where coffee and restaurants are available.
We had a very nice stay, only the noise of the trucks bothered us a bit, but otherwise it was a nice weekend.
Fairly good and comfortable. The huge mining trucks do spoil the quaint and otherwise quiet area with terrible sound pollution. Counted a truck every 15 minutes on Friday evening until late. They rattle the ground like an earthquake, which is unfortunate.
Delicious and it's completely kid-friendly.
We really enjoyed the place, comfortable and the hot tub was definitely a winner, but it would be much better with WiFi and a gas stove.
We had a rough start to our stay. We were forced to have a late check-in. The hot tub was not heating after countless attempts on day 2. It eventually started heating up. Bedding smelled half clean and half like someone else's sweat. We changed the pillowcases. Please note it was dusty as well. We really enjoyed our stay after, just not pleased that we could only check in after 4 as per the request of the hostess. We would definitely stay here again as it was safe and pleasant. Thank you.
Delicious. My grandchildren enjoyed the park and pool. Also the boma where they fried breadsticks. If children stay busy, it is also a break for parents. WiFi would be a huge plus.
We enjoyed the beautiful garden and spent most of our weekend in the garden. The windows need to be cleaned. The fridge is too small for a weekend. Cockroaches are having a field day in the kitchen dining area. The microwave is rusted with a hole rusted through (health hazard). The main bedroom bed squeaks with every turn. Hardboard serving as a base is cracked and needs to be replaced with a proper base. The jacuzzi is a joke, does not work. We made a fire for almost the whole of Saturday and the water only heated up slightly. No WiFi available.
Fisherman's Rest is relatively well appointed although very rustic - so one should expect a Fisherman's cottage. The garden is really beautiful and looks like a loop court. Unfortunately we couldn't spend much time outside due to bad weather. The constant noise from the very busy Voortrekkerweg unfortunately totally spoiled our visit. Sometimes it feels like the trucks are driving right through the house and it simply never stops. Unfortunately, the owner can't do anything about it - but if you're looking for peace and quiet, Fisherman's Rest is unfortunately not the place for you.
On arrival, the contact person and owner were not aware of our stay despite the reminders we received from you. The house was not cleaned and prepared and we waited 2 hours for them to clean the place without much communication. We were not advised of the loadshedding schedule and there were no candles or lights available. The main bed is uncomfortable and the pillows on the couch are dirty. The whole house requires a deep clean. Basic amenities, crockery and cutlery are available. The garden area was neat and maintained and amenities were as in the pictures. I am used to booking through you and have never had a problem with any accommodation booked but was disappointed with the response from the host.
Wow, what a beauty.
Very nice place. WiFi would have been nice. But all in all, the kids and I enjoyed our stay.
The cottage is ideal for what our needs were. The fireplace in the living room was very welcome in the cold, but I suspect the exhaust pipe between the hearth and the wall needs some maintenance.
I enjoyed my stay at Fisherman's Rest. The place was neat and clean upon arrival.
The bed in the main bedroom did not sleep nicely but otherwise, it was okay.
Location is on main street and there were lots of big trucks speeding by every 10 seconds. We got used to it later. Nice walk on the porch. All disadvantage with large group of people is the 1 bathroom.
Pleasant stay for staff who were working in Velddrift.
Was lovely, everything we expected. Bird life was outstanding. Fish and chips at Laaiplek are delicious. Went there, especially for the fossil park which was a "not to miss " visit. We'll definitely stay there again!
The overall experience was fantastic. I was a bit disappointed with the cleanliness as there were many cobwebs on the roof (which traveling with small kids raises the concern for spiders), as well as under the beds (we had moved the 1 bed for the kids to sleep in and had to sweep the room again). The house is more than sufficiently equipped with daily items one would need and enough toilet roll was provided. I would recommend the owner consider fencing the property off the street to offer a bit more security. DSTV was included which was a nice extra. The house is on a very busy main road that is used by trucks which need to be mentioned ahead of booking.
We had a great time away! We chose Fisherman's Rest before the heavy storms that blanketed the Western Cape and were relieved to find that Velddrif was almost unscathed. Our house was well fitted with all the essentials we needed, including utensils, towels, and bedding. We had no WiFi, but that made our stay even more enjoyable as we bonded more while playing board games, exploring the West Coast, and engaging in genuine conversation. A suggestion: perhaps fencing around the perimeter, as the entrances are easily accessible from the busy road.
We love nature and tranquility, so this place was ideal.
The unit was well stocked with everything needed.
Facilities were great but definitely need some work. There are a lot of devil thorns so you need to walk around with shoes inside and outside. Would not recommend it for families with small kids. Overall very clean. Was not able to get hold of Jolene to get the keys to the place. Rocked up at the accommodation and they were still cleaning. Only then did Jolene come through. No WiFi and the stove top needs fixing/replacing. Busy road right outside the one bedroom window. Also no gate in front so with my 2-year-old running towards the road the whole time was not great at all. Don't think I will stay here again.
Stove and oven no longer work effectively. Don't have any load shedding plans.
Lovely cozy holiday home. It's not child friendly because there is no fence around the house. The house is right opposite the road where the trucks drive day and night so that made it hard to sleep at night.
I just missed opening windows. Missed a canopy from front door to barbecue because it was raining. Trucks were bothering, but you can't do anything about it.
This was one thing if there was family with children very unsafe.
My stay was amazing. Exactly what we expected and more. House was huge, everything we needed was available, we all simply loved it. See you again soon.
The house is very neat and comfortable. The owner as well as the lady who brought us the key were so very friendly and helpful. The house is very neat and child-friendly. Would recommend 100 times.
Had a wonderful few days at Fisherman's Rest. The cottage is very beautiful and it is very good value for money. The house managers are very willing to help and easy to get hold of.
Very nice stay. Maybe just look at other boiler. Convenient and easily available.
Would stay there again anytime. It was and is definitely value for your money.
Everything in the house was perfect, kitchen equipped with everything except a gas stove as loadshedding is a reality and we had 8 hours of loadshedding both days. Wi-Fi facilities are needed too, even if we have to pay more.
Couch is very uncomfortable and no longer suitable for sitting at all. The stove is also not working efficiently. Very slow and awkward to use.
Very nice place to stay, close to shops, nice to walk in the area.
Would stay again. Bedrooms well laid out. Fire stove is a winner. Warmed up the cottage. Garden and braai area are very nice, even though it is directly off the main road. Not ideal for very small children because of the open road. Issues: One stove plate tripped the power when switched on. The bath's cold tap did not function. The stovetop kettle took almost an hour to boil. No fire stoke device visible to use.
The place needs a bit of attention, especially on the outside. No WiFi, no coffee/tea/sugar/salt supplied. Bedding is sparse and no duvet cover. All this after the price shot up the day we booked!
The area was nice and quiet. I was a bit disappointed in the place. One room's window was broken. You can't open windows for fresh air, then the pieces of glass fall out. You can't open any windows in the place, then the neighbors' cat comes in and climbs on the cupboards where you have to cook and just eats out of the plate. There is no barbecue, there are no scissors or pots with lids. There are only 2 small pots. It looks filthy next to the washing machine. Pieces of stuff were lying there and the towels smelled musty. There is no curtain or door to the shower. I would suggest it for group of people who don't have kids, because the kids run towards the busy road and the cars rush on that road. The tranquility was nice, but was disappointed with some things.
We visited there in June and it was lovely. Enough parking for all the cars. The outdoor barbecue area was sheltered and cozy with the tables and chairs and not cold at all. We really enjoyed the fireplace inside, it made the whole house wonderfully warm for the night. Many thanks to the owner for your friendly service. Oh yes, the walking distance from the famous Bokkomlaan.
Everything was convenient.
Needs a dining room table inside.
The place was very comfortable, it felt like you were at your own home with all the indoor facilities. We pretty much relaxed there. Very neat inside. Fisherman's Rest was tops. Many thanks to the owner.
Extremely clean and tidy. Beautiful art and a shy turtle in the garden. Walking distance from Bokkom Avenue to explore on foot daily and drink the best coffee, as well as watch the flamingos in the wetlands on the way to Laaiplek and Port Owen. Friendly Field Drive.
It was a lovely weekend. We enjoyed it very much. The road is just very noisy otherwise there is nothing missing. Maybe a bit on the outside, but inside very clean and tidy.
Absoluut fantastiese plekkie.... Sal defnitief weer kom...
It is a very nice place to go on holiday, but the house is not fenced in front, so it is not ideal for small children. But it is a very nice three bedroom house. It has everything you can think of. But for a three-bedroom house, it still needs a bathroom if you are more than 5 people.
Place is very neat.
Lovely house with everything you need. Lani received us kindly and immediately made us feel at home.
The ideal place for a West Coast holiday with its broad stoep/braai area and waterwise garden, the interior is tasteful, comfortable and well-equipped. Even the fact that the DStv didn't work was easily forgiven because the owner had made so much effort. We have mentioned this to the agent so hopefully that small thing will be corrected.
The address caused some confusion. The cottage is fully furnished, but still there is a shortage of certain things. Provision is not made for children in relation to crockery, such as plastic glasses and bowls/plates. I went to purchase (when I booked I mentioned that one child is 2 years old). The cottage was very clean, fresh towels and the warmest bedding. If neat and clean. The yard is open which makes it unsafe, would prefer to have a closed yard which would be safer for my kids to play outside and also safer for the vehicle. The house is slightly overpriced. Because it is a 3 bedroom cottage, I would rather say to make the price per night, and not per person. If more people had gone along, the price would have been a ridiculous amount. The cottage looks better than the pictures showed and I was surprised at the size too.
We had the best time whilst staying. We would totally recommend this little gem to anyone and everyone! It was so neat and had everything we needed. Perfect get away!
Value for money. Real West Coast fisherman-style accommodation.
The house is beautiful, Lanie was very friendly, the house is nice and clean and we were received very hospitably.
Will definitely come again. Neat and clean and lots of character. You don't need anything, as long as it's in the house. A bit close to the main road for the noise of traffic.
Had a very nice time. Can recommend it!
See the stars.
The place was perfect for the three of us who each wanted his own room. The kitchen equipment was sufficient, except that a medium sized casserole dish would have been handy. There is only one very small and one very big pot! We managed with one bathroom. The traffic noise can be noisy during the day but in the evenings it's a lot quieter. A bench in each room for luggage would be an improvement. The floor was a bit sandy. Overall it was good value for money, thanks.
Will book here next year again.
House is very comfortable and very tidy.
