Quiet and beautiful. We are bird-watchers so had a good time with Lucky from Birdlife Africa. Not a lot of sun but it was cool and fun! Strongly recommended. You can just sit on the verandah and enjoy the view!
The stay was great. Beautiful sunsets and nature surrounding the unit. The unit had all amenities and was clean and comfortable. Friendly and helpful hosts.

The accommodation was neat and clean and very peaceful. Enjoyed it - just need to remove the trout fishing from the description as I went in with high hopes and it doesn't exist.
We had the entire guest house to ourselves so the space and facilities were awesome. Electric blankets, AGA, and fireplace were very welcome in minus 4-degree temperatures. Loved seeing the triplet lambs that were born overnight, and the week-old calves.
What a peacefully stay in a beautiful, attend to detail cottage, overlooking the water with lots of birdwatching! If you need soul searching and rest, indulge on this perfect farm stay in Wakkerstroom.
Only criticism is the dirt road which was a bit bad.
We had a great stay in a spacious, very well equipped place. We were warmly received and the unit was serviced daily and wood was placed in the fireplace every day. It's really a place to recommend. The access route was full of challenges after a downpour and could cause problems.
The most gorgeous cottage with the most gorgeous views. Definitely worth the little drive out of town. We even heard the owls hooting at night. Ronel and Johan were exceptional hosts and very kindly let us check out late so we could enjoy a last MTB ride around the windpump route to take in the last bit of scenery before we left. Thank you, we will be back soon.
The 3.3km dirt road is a thriller but the owners are well aware of it and they get no support or help from other residents. An idea is that on the website there is a pertinent reference to the road, especially in relation to smaller vehicles and/in the rainy season should be. A few other comments: There is only 1 storage space next to the bed. So my glasses, cell phone, flashlight etc. lay on the floor. The bathroom sink's hot water faucet is loose and difficult to handle. The tub spout is very slow, very deep and very uncomfortable to clean after use. Hope it's of value.
We stayed in the Pretty Pig. Nicely furnished, tidy, excellently equipped and lovely view. The road there can be challenging for an ordinary vehicle - especially when it's raining.

Forellenhof is a good base for exploring Wakkerstroom and the surrounding area.
It suddenly got cold over the weekend and the lovely fireplace and electric blankets on the beds were our salvation.

The Pretty Pig cottage is fully equipped, tidy and situated by a small pond, with the most beautiful view over the marshes and hills. Various types of waterfowl. Beautiful herd of horses galloping over the ridges at sunset. Calm and quiet, fresh air with sheep ewes and their twin lambs as our neighbours. The farm yard and lawns are extremely neat and well maintained. Thank you very much Ronel!
Silence and the farm atmosphere make you immediately relax. Standard set at Forellenhof will be difficult to surpass.

Forellenhof handled 16 guests with ease. The farmhouse, with its lovely spacious veranda, was a very popular place to visit. Even though it was cold, fireplaces provided lovely heat. The beautiful farm environment provided the ideal background for a professional photo session and our memories were captured on paper and in our minds for life! Ronelle and Johan are special people and made everyone feel so welcome. Forellenhof Gasteplaas can be visited to forget the hustle and bustle of daily life!

The shower bath in the en-suite bathroom is very difficult for older people to use because you have to step over a high bath edge to get to it. In our company, no one would be able to get out of the bath! I suggest, make the bathrooms more accessible to older people.
From the point of view of bird watchers, the location is excellent. The accommodation was very comfortable and tasteful. The owners were very friendly and hospitable. The breakfast was delicious!

It was a wonderful experience where we could relax wonderfully in a place to stay that was particularly well equipped and tidy. The fireplace came in handy even in January and we were also able to walk in the field to experience the natural beauty. The silence does wonders to one's mind.
Ronell is friendly and very helpful, nothing is too much trouble for her. The rooms are romantic and luxurious. The breakfast is 5 star. The farm is quite high up and it gives a beautiful view over Wakkerstroom. The guest farm is the perfect distance from town.
Apart from the guest house with a large private veranda, living room, and everything that comes with a farm atmosphere, there are 2 self-catering cottages, one 3 bedroom, one 2 bedroom. The view is beautiful. One looks out over the mountains and small ponds with horses, cattle and sheep. Here you relax. You are away from als. It's about 5 to 7 km out of town, the last bit on a small dirt road, but nothing bad. One expects something like this to get away. Ronelle thought of everything. You lack nothing. Thank you very much Ronelle, our 3 days refreshed us. It was soul food!

We stayed in the Pretty Pig unit which has the most beautiful view over a small pond with birds. The accommodation is private, has a lovely veranda and everything is comfortable and luxurious. In addition, the sheep and cattle graze around you for a total sense of peacefulness. Well equipped with up to its own carport for your car.
After a whole day of birding in hot and dusty conditions, it was great to get back to our beautiful cottage on the dam, reflecting on the day. We had a lovely stay.

Forellenhof Guest Farm is a beautiful guest farm approximately 5 km outside Wakkerstroom. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we experienced genuine farmer friendliness. We stayed in Freckled Frog self-catering house for the weekend. The house is well laid out and fully equipped. The stoep has a breathtaking view of nature and we had a great time visiting and relaxing on the stoep. We would definitely recommend Forellenhof for a lovely break away from every day's hectic life.

We have not experienced such hospitality elsewhere. Sorry about the access road, but by driving slowly and carefully it was manageable. Would have asked the host's help if it had rained. It was an incredible experience to go home there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is private, well appointed and clean and the farm is beautiful and peaceful. The only downside is the road to Forellenhof is quite treacherous. And even more so after the abundant December rains. I would recommend that you don't go there unless you have a 4x4 vehicle.

Forellenhof is an idyllic spot in an amazing natural environment. The accommodation was spotless, comfortable and provided for all our needs. Ronelle and Johan are wonderful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and every need was addressed in the most efficient and professional manner.
Just what we needed for a getaway from it all in beautiful, quiet surroundings. Ronelle and her husband were so accommodating. He even allowed our little city slicker boy to go with when they were rounding up the sheep for the evening and we even got to hold the lambs! There is also a jungle gym for the kids and lots of space to run around and ride their bikes. Accommodation was on point and had everything we needed. Would definitely return.

The place is located by the moorland and a lot of birds. When we were there it rained 154 mm in 5 days and the roads were very muddy and a piece of the pass was covered in water at knee height for about 60 m. The owners of Forellenhof didn't mind towing their guests' cars over the muddy road to get through the water. That is consideration and reflects on the quality of accommodation. I want to thank them for that. We will definitely come again.

Forellenhof is everything one would like to have in a B&B. Clean, good bed, enough hot water for bath and shower, good home cooked breakfast. And when we had a bad experience at a restaurant in town, Ronelle cooked us a superb dinner the following night with a venison pie, which would shame most fine dining restaurants.

The cottage was conveniently equipped with a lot of extras that you don't have to pack. A hairdryer, towels, mosquito spray, soaps, milk, sugar, coffee and tea are available. There is also a lovely fireplace which quickly warmed the cottage when the cold front came through. The farm is not far from the town and soon you are at the bird shelters or in the town. Had a good night's sleep at Wakkerstroom!

Freckled Frog is a charming self-catering unit situated on a farm situated 6 km outside the picturesque village of Wakkerstroom. The unit can accommodate up to 6 guests in its cosy 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. The second bedroom has a double bed while the third one has 2 single beds. Guests share a separate bathroom fitted with a shower. Bed linen and towels are provided for extra convenience. The open-plan living area includes comfortable seating, a cosy wood fireplace, a dining table, and a well-equipped kitchenette. The kitchenette has a fridge-freezer, stove, oven, microwave, and coffee- and tea-making facilities.
